History

Established in 1984.

In 1984, private tutor Neil Chyten perfected a series of innovative, insightful strategies for standardized test taking and study skills, and published his definitive textbook, «Mastering the SAT». Encouraged by the consistent success of his strategies, and convinced of the need for a personal, one-to-one approach to tutoring, Neil hired a select few, highly-experienced tutors to whom he taught his time-tested strategies. In 1999, Neil officially opened the first Chyten Education Center in Newton, Massachusetts. By 2004, Chyten had grown to such an extent that Neil had to give up tutoring himself to run the company full time.

By 2007, the company had 5 centers in MA and was ready to expand nationally. Chyten opened its first franchises in MA, NY, MD and CT that year, and designed the nation’s first ACT vs SAT Comparison Test. In 2008, Chyten revealed the Magnostic, a comprehensive SAT diagnostic, and opened 8 more franchises, bringing its total number centers to 19 (and counting).
