The girls at the ice cream window wouldn’t put a soft serve ice cream in a bowl for a 4-year old. They said it was against the rules to have a cup if you didn’t order a certain size. We ordered the kiddie size, FYI. Seriously? I’ll never go back — there are 2 other ice cream stands nearby where they are friendly. The gift shop clerk snapped at said 4-year old for no reason. Undeterred, we bought a $ 5 item and I noticed that I was charged 7% sales tax(an even 35 cents). I questioned the clerk because the Maine rate is 5.5%. She ignored me, and didn’t even acknowledge my question so I asked again. Then, without making eye contact, she very rudely told me the tax was whatever the cash register said it was… Um, no!!! I wasn’t worried about the extra 7 cents I was charged but more so the principle that this place is overcharging all their customers who probably don’t notice! This place is a tourist trap and I’m guessing many shoppers don’t even know what the Maine sales tax rate is. I asked for a receipt and the woman then snapped that they didn’t give out receipts. I was pissed by this point so I told her I was pretty sure that was illegal and she made a big scene about giving me the cash register tape, which she basically threw at me in anger because I had insisted. I’ll be calling Maine Revenue Services on Monday. Enjoy your sales tax audit Clumsy Moose! Ps — overcharging sales tax and refusing a customer a valid refund is grounds for a class action lawsuit. I’m not the litigious type but buyer beware of this place!

I only eat ice cream a handful of times a year. I’m always looking forward to the Wild Blueberry ice cream at the clumsy moose. Staff was great. Good atmosphere and a good vibe on the causeway getting a icecream.

The staff was very friendly even through the store was packed. The coffee prices are great. I will be buying my coffee from The Clumsy Moose when I am in Naples.
