History

Established in 1857.

St. John Church is part of the United Church of Christ, a denomination formed in 1957 through the union of the Congregational Christian Church and the Evangelical and Reformed Church. Our Sunday worship service, church school, youth groups, men’s and women’s groups, and all activities are open to everyone. Our theology is open and accepting; we welcome questions and the expression of each person’s point of view. Any professing Christian is welcome to share in Holy Communion. We think of our congregation as a large, loving family, with persons of all ages joining in worship, study, fellowship, and service.

German settlers founded our local church in 1857, and our first building is now known as the «Meeting House» in the Naper Settlement. For the last 6 years we have offered a worship service in the German language following our regular service on the first Sunday of each month.

We invite you to come visit and enjoy the warmth of our church family.
