History

Established in 2007.

In May 2002, Dr. LaVacca married Dr. Manal Ibrahim. Some people have said that «it was their love of pearly whites that brought them together» but their relationship encompasses so much more! When Dr. Ibrahim finished her orthodontic training in New York, they move to Chicago to start a family and fulfill their life long dream of building and designing their own practices.

Dr. LaVacca joined a group dental practice in Chicago until he and Dr. Ibrahim identified their LIFE PLAN. Their plan included moving to a community that would provide them with an environment similar to the city and also have an excellent area to raise their two boys. The big day came faster than expected and his life long ideas of a dental practice came to fruition. A multi-​specialty practice with a surgical amphitheater to teach at NDS.

With the rapid growth of NDS, Dr. LaVacca has hired several other carefully selected dentists to help provide superior dental care to the Naperville community.

Dr. LaVacca is a Board Certified Prosthodontist and received his DMD from Temple University and was awarded accolades in cosmetic and oral surgery. He completed his general practice residency at the E. Orange Veterans Hospital where he also completed a 3 year post-​graduate program in Prosthodontics, where he was Chief resident for 2 years at the Montifiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY. Upon completion of his training, Dr. LaVacca went into private practice in NY. He was selected as a specialist by the New York City Medical Examiner’s office to help identify victims of the World Trade Center disaster. After completion of his duties, he returned to the Medical Center. He was asked to be the Director of the General Practice Program, and interim Director of the Post-​Graduate Program in Prosthodontics where he managed residents and ran the clinic at the hospital. He also lectured nationally and internationally teaching dentists from around the world how to place and restore dental implants.

No one picked up, left a message, sent an email, 20 min after appointment was scheduled for got a call and voicemail, 45min later got 3 more calls and another voicemail… not my problem the women at the front desk can’t check messages or email. I have Metlife dental insurance and NDS is an in-​network provider. After getting a pretreatment estimate for 2 gold crowns based on the contract insurance network fee, NDS refuses to do them unless I pay an extra lab fee not covered by insurance. Since I questioned this charge, they now refuse to do them at all. I’m in touch with MetLife who say this is not correct and are looking into it.
The assistant office manager came over to me while I was just numbed by the dentist to lecture me about how they won’t do gold crowns for me, only porcelain. I protested that I grind my teeth and metal holds up better for grinders, but that didn’t matter. She then lectures me that hardly anyone wants gold and it’s almost always porcelain. Then she confirmed the office’s refusal to do gold for me, even though their dentist recommended it. Still numbed, I got out of the chair humiliated and just walked out.
The strange thing is that for molars, gold crowns is the standard material that MetLife and most insurance companies cover. Porcelain is considered an alternate benefit that the patient has to pay additional for. Also, NDS originally agreed to my gold crowns when the pretreatment estimate came in to them a year ago, but then later they suddenly refused. I have no faith in this practice. It’s not the dentists (who are good), but the back office who are dishonest with service charges and insurance.

After countless phone calls around the area to find a pediatric dentist which takes Blue Cross, I finally found this place. I have three children who have specific dental needs which unfortunately a family dentist can’t do. I drive 45 minutes to get to this office.
When you have three kids, you’re bound to have one or two in tow while one is getting work done. For that reason, I’m thankful for the fancy waiting area. Several reviews criticize that unnecessary dental work is done to compensate for the state of the art facility. I’ve been to this office three times in a month and can’t stress enough how happy I am that the kids have toys and iPads to use while waiting. These dentists have worked us in for emergencies and regular dental procedures so my kids don’t have to miss school to have procedures completed. For those who complain that this facility is reinvesting in the facility and argue a no-​frills dentist is superior… just think that if the dentist is not investing in the facility, technology, medical advancements… that $$$ is going straight home with them, not the office.
Also, I must add that the staff are so friendly. I am so particular when it comes to customer service at doctor/​dentists and have divorced several facilities when staff are unpleasant. This place has amazing staff who are all very friendly to the whole family.
I rank a 4 not a 5 because the only area for improvement would be the ease of getting an appointment. I wish you could get an appointment sooner/​faster but maybe that’s in the works for the future.

Only gave one star because there is no option for negative stars. Went here because I lost my two lower teeth in surgery. After the x-​rays and a visit with Dr. Anthony Lavacca his course of action was to remove all of my lower teeth, put in 4 implants with permanent dentures and removing some broken roots. I would have to separately hire an anesthesiologist at my own expense. Dr. Lavacca’s charge would have been 25,000.00 dollars. I went to another dentist, who could not understand why Dr. Lavacca would remove healthy teeth, not one cavity, nothing loose, roots are strong. This place gave my new dental office such a hard time with sending my CT scan over, that I’m now going to pick it up. I won’t be paying 25 grand for your remodel on your office Dr Lavacca. I will be calling my dental insurance company and letting them know all about you and your scam of an office.

I had spent thousands of dollars with this company and left earlier this year. I had asked for the same hygienist several times, but this seemed to be a challenge as each visit was scheduled. I ended up seeing 3 – 4 different hygienist through the year, all having different ways of caring for me. On my last visit, after a grueling procedure and scheduling nightmare, I was asked for $ 0.86. The lack of professionalism (hair twirling and demeaning tone) and inability to understand my frustration was led me to leave. You are just a number there and the caring place it use to be has seem to go out the door. They are a large, high volume dental practice and has changed significantly since I first went there in 2008. After another visit to another dentist, I was given a totally different diagnosis and was told there was no need for me to visit as often as I had been to the dentist. This dentist was unsure as to why I was being treated so frequently. So, do your research with NDS; you could be potentially targeted to do unecessary and extremely high cost procedures when it’s not necessary. BEWARE.

Attention parents looking for best pediatric dentist… Dr. Gail and her team are amazing. I had taken my 4.5 yr daughter to another dentist the last 3 times and it was a horrible experience. We just moved to the area and thought to try it out. I can’t tell you how much I appreciated how much the time and attention they spent with my daughter to get her comfortable with the experience. Mirlinda is an excellent hygentist that treated her like a princess.
Now my daughter can’t stop talking about how much she loved the dentist and shows everyone her «sparkling princess teeth»!!
The movie room and iPads with games also really make this a kid oriented experience!

I had a filling and cleaning scheduled same day. My appointments were 15 minutes apart. However, they were able to do both appointments without delay between each. Each person from front desk to dentist were very accommodating and friendly. I was done within about 90 minutes from start to finish.

Before I changed dentists, I have been there for many years and quite happy until my dentist took a maternity leave. As soon as that happened I was handed around and found myself in very uncomfortable situations. First off, I noticed several out of pocket bills that suddenly appeared. Second, I noticed a more rushed experience in dental chairs that are being crammed into small spaces without walls between patients. Third, I could never get a hold of the finance department to ask questions about these weird charges. Fourth, I was charged with a no show fee even though I had cancelled that appointment ahead of time. Fifth, I was personally told at the front office that there are no records of any of my visits on any of their systems. Sixth, I called with a toothache and was quizzed endlessly about what number hurts and didn’t get an appointment.
In short, I caught them stealing by repeatedly performing unauthorized procedures, which they they semi admitted by writing that they have not found my written authorizations via email (I have Tozzi and Pieler Emails up the wazoo). If that wasn’t bad enough, I was told I am no longer welcome as a patient and that they deleted my patient file. I found that out after trying to take my patient records to the next dentist, baffled and frustrated.
My experience over several years was that the dentists are world class but that the office is run like a mechanic shop. The more they can squeeze out the better, provided the patient doesn’t have any questions about charges, doesn’t call with a toothache, doesn’t mind paying no show fees for no reason and doesn’t veer off the telephone questionnaire. It’s all about growth, profits and throughput. If that’s your thing, go ahead take a seat.

I went here for about 3 years. Service and quality of service was good at the beginning but has since gotten pretty bad. The last few times the hygienist scolded me and gave me many «or else» statements. I don’t need that. I can’t even comment on the actual doctors because one only met with me once for a few minutes. Booked an appointment to have my teeth cleaned spent 2 hours in the chair having every tooth xrayed and pictures taken and left without the cleaning being done just an estimate. I asked 3x during the visit when they would start cleaning my teeth and they continued to take pictures, count teeth and take photos… a great disappointment for me and I am not impressed with this office, nice décor or not I was not impressed. If you want your teeth cleaned do not go here because they will upsell you on a lot of extra work.

There is such a high turn over rate of dentists, no one ever gets to know you. Also there are no dividers when getting your teeth cleaned. I don’t want to hear/​see other people when I’m in a dentist chair.

This place is a total scam. You’re paying for that nice office and beautiful bathrooms!!! Did not like it here at all. Every time my young son and I went we had something wrong. We went for a second opinion and they were definitely over selling work needing to be done. Go here if you want a beautiful office, pretty women and constant work done.

I have been a patient here for one year now, and I do not have any complaints. The whole process if very efficient, professional, and seamless. I came in for my first visit after my pregnancy (which took a huge toll on my teeth and gums), and my gums were in pretty bad shape (I knew this going in). The hygienists had originally thought that I needed a pretty intense-​sounding procedure (in which they basically numb your whole mouth and clean everything up underneath your gums), but Dr. Jessica Mehta came in to get an assessment and decided maybe we just needed to wait it out since I had just had my baby and my gums were still in the process of settling down from everything.
So I resumed normal care at home (brush/​floss every day), and came in every three months for a simple cleaning. Now my gums are great one year later! No crazy procedure needed, and I can resume my every six months appointment schedule. I did have two small cavities that were filled in less than a half an hour-​super fast in my experience! I also do have a tendency to clench my teeth, and the staff and Dr. Mehta recommended a mouth guard. I find them too expensive and not worth the extra money, so I declined. I did not receive any push-​back and they very kindly respected my decision, which is not something I can say for other dentists in the past.
Staff are all very friendly, thoughtful, and accommodating. They let me listen to my music during my filling procedures (something so simple, but adds so much to relieving any anxiety), and they always offer a warm neck wrap when you sit down (again, very simple, but helpful in relieving stress).
I plan on continuing as a patient here. The only reason why I have not given this place the full five-​star rating is because I think it may be a little too soon to really tell. So far, all positive experiences (as positive as it can be for the dentist). I will update when I have my family come in.

I’ve been taking my kids here for almost 2 years. My son had a nasty fall and ended up chipping 2 teeth and loosing a front tooth. This was so traumatic for him and myself as well. But the entire staff was so kind, patient and professional. That really eased a pretty stressful process.
I still take my little ones here for their 6 month check ups. Both of mine are finally old enough to go into the appointments by themselves while I wait in the waiting room. They do this starting at 3 years to sort of ease the fear with kids and create a rapport between the kids and the dentist. The hygienists and front desk staff give little reports about how the little ones are doing and were sensitive to my sons speech delay.
The waiting room is ultra comfortable. It’s more like a fancy living room than a doctors office. Recent magazines, Keurig coffee machine, toys and books for kids, and newer movies on the flat screen help to put everyone at ease.
I really wish I could get an appointment here, but they are booked solid. With the caliber of service they give, I’m not the least bit surprised.

This was my third appointment at Dr Lavacca’s office. The first two weren’t horrible but the third was a nightmare. First off I selected this dentist because of the reviews on Dr Lavacca, well never once have I seen or met him so if you select this office based on him don’t expect him to be your dentist. I recently started a new job and have new insurance (blue cross blue shield). I haven’t received my card yet but I provided the receptionist my info, without going on forever I will say she was rude, unprofessional and looked at me like I was trying to swindle the office out of paying for a cleaning. After she repeatedly told me I didn’t have dental insurance I got bcbs on the phone and had them provide her with my coverage. She than gave a very insincere apology. 30 minutes after I left she called again to tell me my insurance isn’t going to pay, this was literally 5 minutes after I called bcbs to confirm they would cover in or out of network.
Due to all the hassle I had to cancel my filling appointment and only had a cleaning done. The cleanings usually go well but this time the lady seemed in a rush and new. A few times she stabbed my gums to the point it jolted me.
Last but not least, they operate like a used car sales lot, constantly trying to up sell and add cost to your bill. There are many other dentists in Naperville and I would highly recommend going elsewhere.

When I moved back to the area about five years ago I started going to this practice. I was impressed with the beauty of the office, the attractive staff and the heated neck pillows. Too bad it was all smoke and mirrors.
There was a high turnover rate of dentists, who suspeciously were all attractive women under thirty. I had three different dentist in two years. But more alarming than that statistic is the fact that I was sent to get four root canals during those two years, all of which turned out to be unnecesary. It turned out I have a condition called Trigeminal neuralgia, and nobody at this practice was able to diagnose it. I finally got fed up because I knew something wasn’t right. I tried a new dentist who was able to diagnose my condition on the first visit. It has been life changing for me. ]
I went through a lot of pain, money and time that could have been easily avoided.
Sure, the place is designed beautifully, but is that what you need from your dentist? And if you want to look at hot, young women, you’re probably better off going for wings at Hooters!
