Naperville Convention and Visitors Bureau

Where do I even begin. I stopped into the Visitors Bureau at the recommendation a very helpful person at the Chamber of Commerce and walked away with a hefty bag full of information that will be used up until the paper is badly torn, faded and barely legible.
I’m sorry residents of Naperville but you’re going to have do deal with the likes me becoming a bonafide tourist of this town I now call home. As embarrassing as that sounds because I hate tourist traps, this was a must stop.
I come from a completely different area and know nothing about the towns, villages and history of the county. Thus brings me into the Visitors Bureau. The woman behind the desk was not only extremely welcoming but she got up and walked around from her desk to talk to me. She told me about a friend of her’s living in SF and what not. Who does this? Very nice people who want you to learn about where you are living.
I don’t want to be an expert or historian to that extent but I do at least want to understand the culture that I have fallen in love with. When you first walk in the door, there’s a wall filled with leaflets and brochures and when you venture upstairs that is where you find the real information because it comes from the people.
Here’s what I walked away with:
–A hip to trip bag to hold all of my goodies
–A street map/​Resource Guide to Naperville
–Community Newspaper
–A downtown map with emphasis on the businesses
–Bike/​Running trail map (Woot)
–Specific Street Guides (Rt 59, Ogden Ave)
–Misc. leaflets on the history, story of Millennium Carillon
–Downtown parking layout/​restrictions
What a great way to introduce myself into the town, by exploring it from top to bottom. Or bottom to top, however you look at it. I’m definitely looking forward in no longer looking like a deer in headlights and getting on board with the rest of the residents as to what Naperville is all about.
