History

Established in 1989.

My Chef Catering is a family-​owned business based in Naperville since 1989. Founded by Bill and Karen Garlough, the business began as a 4,500 sq. ft. gourmet deli and kitchen, catering simple social events and corporate breakfasts and luncheons.

Thanks to Karen and Bill’s insistence on quality and service, the catering business grew significantly, requiring My Chef to move from the small store-​front to its current 14,000 sq. ft. location. The facility features a full-​service kitchen, offices, conference and tasting rooms and a warehouse for catering rental items and equipment. The facility also has a heated garage for delivery vehicles and loading dock for daily fresh food delivery.

Today, My Chef Catering is a multi-​million dollar catering operation that works with more than 850 corporate clients and thousands of social customers, many of whom were referrals from other clients.

Owners Bill and Karen Garlough have Fortune 100 sales experience and strong backgrounds in marketing, which have served them well in the growth of their company. Their priority has always been on customer service as well as hiring and maintaining a staff of talented chefs, outstanding sales executives, professional wait staff and friendly delivery drivers. In fact, in an industry of revolving door turnover, Karen and Bill’s employees have stayed with My Chef for an average of 7 years.

Karen and Bill Garlough have been married since 1978 and business partners since 1989. They say they owe their success in marriage and in business to each other and the strong bond that they share. Karen and Bill also say they are pleased to have a first rate staff that they consider

their extended family.

We just used My Chef over the weekend for our daughter’s wedding at the Danada House. They did an absolutely superb job. Dominic and his team were outstanding. Many of our guests commented on how beautiful the simultaneous serving was with the white glove treatment. The food and appetizers we’re hot and appealing just like they were when we did the tasting. I would not hesitate to use them again and in fact probably will wind up doing so as we have two more daughters to go. Very easy to do business with in terms of logistics and payments. For a Danada House wedding they knew every thing about the facility and made great recomendations. They simply made things seamless and very wonderful on our special day.

We hired MyChef to cater our wedding reception (about 100 people) in the end of August, and it was a great decision! Their ample menu options made it possible to find something delicious and within our price range. And Kendall, the employee in charge of our event, was very helpful, friendly and easy to reach. We went with a dinner buffet (chicken bruschetta, homemade focaccia, green beans and roasted potatoes) and their beer, wine and soda bar option. We got lots of compliments on the food, and the staff was courteous and prompt. They also let us supplement their beer options with two additional half kegs of «fancy» beer we purchased from a local brewery. Great food and great people to work with. Strongly recommend!

We hired My Chef for our wedding last month, and I was SO impressed with them. As the bride, I was sort of out of the loop for set up that day, but everything went so smoothly that I never had to be bothered with any details! We had a whole bunch of flowers and different vessels to put them in for centerpieces and they went around the venue and set up any extra vessels we had. I went to the ladies room at one point and noticed a whole bunch of flowers in there that I hadn’t even planned on! I am still hearing from guests who say that their table servers were amazing and funny. At the end of the night, I was in awe as I looked around and saw everyone from MyChef help to tear everything down and pack up the cars. I was stressed with everything that had to get OUT of our venue, and one employee could tell that and took me aside and told me that they were going to handle everything and to go say goodbye to our guests. That seriously touched my heart.

We decided on a brunch buffet for our wedding this June and My Chef honestly perfected the Sunday brunch :) Delish French toast with homemade whipped cream, mini sandwiches, variety of quiches, Mmm good cinnamon rolls, crispy bacon and potatoes… the list goes on.
They were so great to work with and really went out of their way to add the personal touches and make sure things were just the way we wanted. And on top of that, they made our wedding day stress free and took care of everything :) wouldn’t change a thing about that day. Thanks so much guys!

My chef catering made our wedding. Period. hands down. My wife and I were blown away by the service that they offered for our event. Dominic, Lindsay, and Jamie were incredibly easy to work with and continuously went the extra mile for us. My wife and I used them at the Danada House, which they are an approved vendor. Not only do they walk you through the whole processes but they will give you the most bang for your buck. There is a saying you get what you pay for, well you get that and more with this crew. The food was some of the Best that I ever had, the pricing for beer, wine and liquor was the most reasonable that we found and the desert and the sweets table was just plain magical.
All in all I will use this company from now on and will highly recommended it to anyone that asks.
Once again, I can not say enough about the service and staff. Dominic and his staff were amongst some of the nicest people I have ever met, and very very accommodating.

I wish I could give them more stars! No joke. My wife and I hired them as our caterers for our wedding about a month and half ago. Let me tell you — I have nothing remotely bad or even bland to tell you. The food is absolutely delicious, but we knew that from the time we went to the tasting. It was so wonderful, we had an immensely hard task picking and finalizing menu items for the event! The people that work here are so friends and sociable, I have to mention — you leave thinking this is the exact kind of people that should be in the service industry.
Our original co-​ordinator/​project manager — Lindsey was on Maternity leave (we were informed of this right from day-​1) and were warned that there was a faint possibility that she might not be able to make it on time. We were also assured that everything will still be taken care if, if that were to happen, and true to their word — they did.
A special shout out to Dominick, who is the head chef/​co-​ordinator/​man in-​charge. He made our event such an absolute delight. Needless to say, with weddings and having as many moving parts as there are, he co-​ordinated every detail to perfection and this comes from someone who is quite hard to please (me, not my lady!). The arrangements were flawless, the food was cooked to perfection, he personally attended to us and all our guests to make sure nothing ever went even slightly wrong. What can I say — I am definitely, a fan! Incredibly reasonable pricing too — trust me, we window shopped a while before we found them! Would recommend them in a heartbeat, to anyone and everyone looking for a caterer/​coordinator. You cannot go wrong. I am willing to bet on it. Guests at our wedding were so taken by the food served and the overall perfectness of everything on the day. Will definitely go back to give them our business for any/​all parties and functions we might have in the future. Kudos!

We just had our wedding this weekend with My Chef as the catering company and they are AMAZING! Sue was helping us throughout our entire process and she was so insightful. The food is great, all of our guests complimented the food. Sue put food aside for us to take home at the end of the night (we asked her to do that in case we had no time to eat which we didn’t) and appetizers (since we had to take pictures and missed cocktail hour). They put all of our center pieces aside for us to easily pack it up. Sue and everyone at My Chef were so kind and helpful. Love this catering company. I recommend the beef and chicken Marsala, garlic mashed potatoes, spinach puffs, bruchetta and cheese spread, and shrimp. YUM. You can’t get any better than 5 star service and meals!

We just had our wedding at Emerson Creek this past weekend and worked with Sue Jacobs from My Chef. From start to finish Sue and her team were incredible. She held our hands through the menu selection, and a very fun and informative tasting, choosing linens and paid special attention and care on the night of the wedding. She made sure we felt comfortable with every detail and brought us over plates of food because she knew we were so busy with guests we would never have eaten! Our menu was all vegetarian and I really appreciate Sue’s excitement and passion for making it fantastic. This is a thoughtful and detail oriented catering company and Sue specifically was a very important part of our wedding planing process. Our guests are all raving about the meal.

We had a small bday family (10 of us) get together, ages 3 – 90.
After reviewing several catering websites I selected My Chef Catering (CC). I was looking for a nice variety not just tomato sauce on every dish. I decided to order Lunch/​Dinner Meal #1 (minimum 12) and called in to Meghann at Chef Catering.
The food was delivered on time & warm. We placed in oven on a warm temperature until ready to serve.
We never ordered from CC before but after we experienced what great food they had we definitely will again!
Everyone enjoyed the buffet dishes Chef Catering prepared. There was plenty of food for second helpings (which most of all took) and left overs.
Highly recommend, you will not be disappointed :)

My Chef catered our wedding at the Danada House in May 2015. Overall, we were extremely happy with their services, and we would definitely recommend them to our friends and family. My husband and I did tastings with most of Danada’s preferred caterers, and we both agreed that My Chef offered the best food at a reasonable price. Their bar packages were also great!
Our only issue with My Chef concerned communication in the months leading up to the wedding. Although Dominick was our catering manager, we mostly communicated with his assistant (Kendall at first, and Lindsay later on). I’m not sure if it was due to the staff re-​organization or something else, but we often waited a long time to receive a response to our emails and phonecalls, which was frustrating. However, all of our issues did get worked out in the end.
On the day of the wedding, we couldn’t have been happier with how everything came together. Although we had limited contact with Dominick before the wedding, he did a fabulous job bringing our event to life. He seemed to oversee every aspect of the day – decorating the atrium for the reception, setting up placecards, managing the dinner service. He even packaged our leftover cake for us at the end of the night. He truly knows how to run an event at the Danada House. Even if some of the communication in the months before the wedding was slow, we wouldn’t have changed a thing. My Chef truly made our wedding wonderful.

I have used My Chef for many occasions, large and small events, both personally and for my business. They have consistently created wonderfully, memorable celebrations. I have always found their food to be creative and delicious, their service to be top notch. They have a great team and in my experience are the best in the business in Naperville and the western suburbs. We are excited that My Chef will be the caterer for a family wedding coming up in June at Emerson Creek!

My Chef was fantastic! From the moment we walked into the tasting session until we exited our banquet hall, we were treated and served with respect, friendliness, and responsiveness. Communication throughout the process was prompt and helpful, which mirrored the way they served the food on the actual day. The food (especially the hors d’oeuvres!) tasted great, and I was very impressed on how My Chef went above and beyond countless times. Very flexible, and a joy to work with. They are listed as a preferred caterer for the Naperville Park District. I emailed them and never heard a word back. Normally I would just brush it off and move on but I contacted them in the past for a bridal shower and never heard back from them regarding that event either! I was not surprised to read (filtered out) reviews reiterating the poor/​non-​existent communication by the staff. What person getting ready to spend lots of money wants to hire a company that has poor communication skills and would make event planning a headache? Not me. No thank you!

I have to say, I was a little bummed about my experience with My Chef catering. They came highly reviewed so I think I expected more than what I got.
This past weekend I hosted a surprise birthday party for my mom. I wasn’t looking for a whole meal, just light appetizers and snacks to accompany the chips, dips, and booze I already had. The party was for about 30 people, and I didn’t want to spend too much on apps, so instead of choosing one of their packages I just individually ordered what I wanted.
Each appetizer was listed as a minimum purchase of two dozen. These are the options I went with:
— Mini hamburgers
— Mac n cheese balls
— Tuscan skewers with salami, tortellini and olives
— Buffalo chicken wontons with blue cheese
— Mini Cheese pizzas
I also opted to purchase the heating tins so I could easily keep the food warm. When all was said and done it cost me $ 248 plus tip. YEESH. I overlooked the cost at first because it seemed like the convenience and (assumed) quality would be worth it.
Meh, probably not. Let me explain…
Positive points:
— Food was delivered on time
— Delivery guy set everything up quickly
— Party guests said the food tasted pretty good
Negative points:
— Presentation sucked
— Food quality was not there for the price I paid. Each item (with the exception of the burgers and skewers) looked like something I could have gotten in the frozen appetizer section at the store and just popped in the micro.
Bottom line, I expected more from My Chef. Photos I’ve seen and reviews I’ve read seem like they’re top notch, but I didn’t get that vibe. Don’t get me wrong, all the food at my party was eaten, but that’s probably largely due to the amount of booze that was being drank.

We selected My Chef on the strength of the tasting. They use a very productive way of determining what appetizers you like. I guess you could say they keep score based on your opinion of each appetizer. It was fun and we knew we had selected the right foods. We kind of thought that might be our last chance to taste the appetizers since at the wedding we would be involved in picture-​taking etc. But the servers made sure they brought appetizers to us outside, even as they were walking about in Danada House serving our guests. Nice touch! It was wonderful to be able to sneak a bite while waiting for the photographer to set up his shots. Since ours was a daytime wedding, we went with a champagne brunch. Dominick took our special requests and turned our wedding reception into a feast not soon to be forgotten! Whether your talking about the omelette bar, the sweets table or the biscuits and gravy, everything was perfect. A month later, our guests are still commenting on the wonderful food quality and the appetizing presentation. My Chef conducts events at Danada house all the time and their experience showed. Even though we chose not to hire a coordinator, it turned our we didn’t need to. Dominick and Lyndsay ran the show, set tables and placed everything perfectly. We did not have one moment of anxiety. You can hire My Chef with confidence that they know what they are doing and will not drop any of the many balls that are up in the air at a complicated event. And the food will be plentiful incredible!

A special thank you to Sue Jacobs who worked side by side with me and the team at the Millennium carillon in Naperville to cater our wedding. Sue did such an incredible job of advising us on everything from the colors of our wedding (I had a general idea, but she really helped formalize the 4 colors beautifully) Sue gave us excellent recommendations on the number of tables and seats since it was a casual cocktail reception hors de vows style wedding.
The food recommendations were wonderful and we received so many compliments on the food and there was enough for everyone. To our surprise, mychef put aside ONE OF EVERYTHING we ordered for the bride and groom. This was especially awesome on our limo ride to the hotel since we had hardly eaten at our wedding reception. I would highly recommend mychef catering for any of your catering needs; wedding, corporate event, private event etc.
Thank you My Chef Catering and Sue for everything, you were a huge part of making our wedding so incredibly memorable.

My company has used My Chef multiple times for meetings and let me just say… yum! I love eating an actually breakfast of bacon, eggs and fruit versus the regular bagels and donuts. Their sandwiches are delicious as well. Veggie rolls, pitas, club sandwiches, orzo salad. All delicious. So glad we found them!

I’ve never been much for catering — I like to make my own food. That way I know what goes into it and it’s much, much cheaper. That being said, I’ve been to three events catered by My Chef — I didn’t foot the bill and have no idea what it was, so I’m only reviewing food.
BREAKFAST — Two events with breakfast food. It was a fun assortment of typical food, but presented differently. Rather than a tray of eggs and sausage, there were breakfast burritos. Instead of greasy hash browns, there were diced potatoes with onions and peppers. The fried egg with canadian bacon on a croissant? DELISH. I can’t imagine trying to execute something like that for a crowd.
WEDDING: I RSVP-​ed to the wedding long before I realized it would be catered instead of cooked in-​house, and made the mistake of ordering fish. I could tell — it really would have been delicious, if it weren’t for the fact that it was cold. I can’t knock them down a star for that though; it was unusually cold in May and they were cooking in one location and delivering inside a tent. Not ideal — though it’s a catering company so I feel there is some responsibility to the temperature of the food. The sides were great, as was the presentation.
TIMELINESS: Temperature problems = time problems. At the wedding, we were the last table served. As in, other tables were having plates cleared before we received our food, last. Definitely need to work on the correct amount of servers for the size of the crowd. They were 45 minutes late to one of the breakfast events I attended (just last week), which caused a bit of stress for the hostess.
