Specialties
Designed by experts in medicine and public health, nutrition, fitness, motivation, and education. We are a physician-supervised, custom weight loss program. Patients eat nutritious food purchased at the grocery store. The program focuses on four main areas: medical, nutritional, physiological/human kinetics, and private consultations. Most patients lose up to 5 – 10 pounds the first week and up to 20 pounds the first month.
Medi focuses weight loss in three phases. Phase One is acute weight loss which begins with a 90-minute medical examination with a physician. It includes blood panel and EKG, along with the details of an individualized diet based on goals, current condition, and medical history. Throughout this phase, the patient makes weekly visits and meets privately with a member of the medical staff.
Phase Two is short-term maintenance that begins as a patient approaches goal weight. Phase Three is wellness with monthly consultations.
History
Established in 2004.
In 2004 in Tampa, FL, Medi-Weightloss Clinics® was founded by Edward Kaloust, a diet and health enthusiast with a 40-year career in the finance industry. He researched the growing epidemic of obesity and discovered that Americans spend billions of dollars annually on weight loss programs and products only to regain most of the weight once lost.
The more information he uncovered, the more frustrated he became about the continuous failures of the system and of the battle to lose weight and the serious health consequences of these failures.
After retiring from his position in financial services, Kaloust made an important decision to dedicate the remainder of his career to his vision of providing a medically sound, effective, and complete program for obesity and overweight treatment.
Kaloust enlisted the support of his long-time friend, James Edlund, who is the former CEO of OBGYN.net, the largest OB/GYN practitioner and patient website in the United States.
Meet the Business Owner
Bill P.
Business Owner
Following graduation in 1993 from Brown University, Bill began a career as a professional football coach in Madrid, Spain. He was an inspiring head coach, and he had a special gift and passion to mentor the players as community leaders.
Throughout his career, he began to notice the astounding number of health complications of employees who were obese, and his interests grew to include corporate wellness. Employees, he found, who participated in corporate sponsored wellness programs had increased job satisfaction, improved concentration and focus, more energy, less stress, and an overall healthier work/life balance. In addition, team spirit and employee morale improved which led to lower turnover and reduced absenteeism.
At this point, Bill became aware of Medi-Weightloss Clinics which were blossoming throughout Florida. Living in Tampa at the time, he saw an opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives. He purchased the rights to the Chicago and suburban markets.
