Jo & Doh Donuts

I was so excited to try this place. I heard a lot of great things but it just wasn’t true. We went on a Sunday morning at 9. They had plenty of fonts to choose from so we made our selection and left. We couldn’t wait to try them so took a couple bites in the car. There is no way these were fresh they were so dry we put them back in the box and when we got home we microbes them for 15 – 20 seconds which is a lot for a donut. Although they were warm and no longer dry they had no taste. The 2 stars is for the place being clean and the staff was very nice. Won’t go back

I really want to like this place so I have gone at a number of different times (all in the morning before 8 am) and every single time the donuts have tasted dried out like they are at least a day old. Unfortunately, it has been a disappointment every time and so I am done trying.

First time to visit this doughnut maker was last Sunday morning. Based on some of the other postive reviews I have to assume that they visit on days other than Sundays. The place was empty and «cold» as there were no customers and no staff other than one person who took the order and money. «Fresh» doughnuts? Not on Sunday as the selection was quite limted and appeared to be the leftovers from the previous days. No one in the kitchen making «fresh» just trying to sell days old doughnuts and apple fritters. The doughnuts we did get tasted like Dunkin Donuts — just crustier and less flavor.
Nope, won’t be back when I can go to a Dunkin a lot closer to the office/​home.

Looking forward to a fresh donut. Disappointed. Limited selection. Not the best I’ve ever tasted. Not sure I’d go back.

Great donuts, great coffee and friendly staff. Highly recommended.
Inside is kept very clean. A few tables outside as well.
Can’t wait to try more fresh donuts and coffee!

Overall experience was good, the people were great. The donuts were a bit dry but still good.

Local coffee shops are few and far between in the Naperville/​Aurora area, and as a work-​from-​homer this makes me pretty sad face.
My husband and I stopped in early this morning for a coffee and donut. We hung out with our laptop for a little while to do some vacation planning.
My husband (Joshua B) is a pretty classic guy, so he went with a small black coffee and an old fashioned donut. Me on the other hand… I typically like to get whatever is on special or featured for the day. Today, this meant their honey bear latte and a cinnamon toast crunch donut. Both were super sweet and super delicious. Not the healthiest breakfast ever, but SO worth the cals.
In a nutshell…
PROS:
— Friendly service. The girl working here was funny, nice, and really helpful (she also has great taste in music which is played in the shop)
— Amazingly delicious donuts! Great variety and prices are fair.
— Good coffee. Pretty basic options, but good nonetheless.
— Local biz!
CONS (or as I like to say, areas to work on):
— They’re only open until 12 p.m. during the week. Wah wahh
— Ambiance needs some work. There are two comfy chairs, but all other seating is short/​tall aluminum like tables that line the store. If this was designed a little more café cozy like (and maybe offer outdoor seating?), I’d want to hang around longer/​more often.
— Not enough outlets!
Bottom line: their donuts are where it’s at.

I was so looking forward a «gourmet» donut shop in Naperville. I wanted to give them a couple of tries since I wasn’t impressed with my first experience. I don’t mind paying more for a good donut so the price wasn’t the issue. I bought donuts on two different occasions with the same outcome. The flavor was decent but they were extremely greasy.

This place has a nice interesting twist on a donut/​coffee shop.
PROs:
1. The donuts and pastry treats are cooked onsite, fresh to order — not mass produced
2. The They are tasty, with really creative/​unique flavors (kinda like what Ben & Jerrys was with ice cream back in the day)
3. Cozy and friendly vibe — I watched the owner/​operator meet, greet and interact with the customers
CONs:
1. It gets busy, so be prepared to wait a few minutes for order
2. The location is sorta hidden on a 45 degree corner in the stripmall

This place is actually pretty good… better than Dimples in terms of quality
But like most places in Naperville, the product doesn’t quite live up to the prices. It’s a good place to go if you’re looking to grab ONE doughnut and a hot coffee, but if you’re looking to feed a family with a dozen or more, just go to Dunkin Donuts or Jewel.
Also, it would help if the doughnuts were actually labled or had some sort of sign indicating what each doughnut was.
Still, it’s worth checking out. The lady at the counter was very friendly and the doughnuts are pretty good

Very disappointed. I took my 3yr old here recently for a treat. I decided to treat myself to the maple bacon donut and was pretty grossed out. The maple icing on top had hardened over and had little grease puddles from the bacon. Ok yes I know that bacon is greasy but these were age puddles, not fresh bacon puddles. The bacon itself was scarce and what was on there was all hard gristly fat that wasn’t at all chewable. I ended up scraping the fat chunks off in my attempt to not totally waste my money. The donut itself was DRY as all get out. Another sign of age. Ick. I also got a glazed donut which was decent. It was on the dry side but wasn’t too far gone.
The girl at the cash register was really friendly so they have that going for them.
Go to Dimples on 59 or Dunkin instead.

I had very high hopes for this place. I stopped in 30 minutes before closing time which was probably not a good idea. I bought 6 donuts which I thought was pretty expensive (almost $ 10 bucks) the girl working there was very nice. Loved her. Anyway I ordered a chocolate cake donut with a caramel drizzle (okay not impressive.) a donut with cinnamon toast crunch on top (the top layer with the soggy cereal was okay, but the actual donut was drier than a son of a B**ch. I did like the cake donut with the toffee on it! Had to be my fav! The maple bacon donut had me prepared for greatness, but again the donut was dry as hell. The top with the icing was awesome though! I tried the apricot filled which was decent but dry. The lemon cake donut was okay. I really think they should refrain from selling donuts so late in the day if they are going to dry out like that. I bet the donuts are wonderful in the morning. The cake donuts seem to fare much better than the other donuts I must say. For what I paid I expected better. For what they charge these donuts need to be much better.

Not the best donuts I EVER had, but pretty darn good, and I give them an A for inventive flavors. I had the maple bacon and the Cinnamon Toast Crunch (yes, the cereal). There were a variety of others, standards and more creative varieties. Certainly better than the average chain. Staff was incredibly kind and informative to a newbie :)
Overall, I’ll remember Jo and Doh for future donut needs; they’re a breath of fresh (warm, sugary) air in a sometimes stale world of breakfast baked goods.

Exceptionally mediocre. The other Unilocal reviews (eg. Brian) were very accurate on the negative side. I visited in early April of 2014 looking for a good donut bakery. The mall where it is located was mainly vacated and I got a great parking spot at 1pm (a bit unusual). I was off to a good start.
Jo and Doh is a comfortable and cozy place (not much changed from when it was a Caribou Coffee). The owner and assistant were very cordial to me and my guest. Here is what I experienced:
Improvement areas:
1. My chocolate cake donut was unacceptably dry (Meijer makes better quality)
2. Donut seemed stale even when appearing fresh
3. There is very little filling in their cream filled donut (Meijer makes better toppings and fillings as a reference point)
4. Low selection/​numbers of donuts (very small glass case of donuts). I was told they just sold a ton of donuts an hour earlier. They had 9 donuts in the case. Can you imagine McDonalds saying they are out of French fries?
5. Overpriced (about $ 1.38 per donut) and rather small in size. I heard a dozen costs $ 20 … no way people should pay that.
6. No signage to select donuts
I saw a mom with three younger children look very disappointed when they saw only a few donuts to select from. The coffee has that medium-​strong brew (I am more of a Dunkin fan than Starbucks). I really wanted to have a great experience here but had an average one at best. I will not be returning. I suspect there may be many one-​and-​done customer visits.

This bakery is THE Mecca of doughnuts!!! I first heard about this local mom n pop shop while randomly surfing Unilocal for good bakeries in the Naperville area. When I found this place I was so disappointed I haven’t heard of it earlier!!! These doughnuts are the best I have ever had! When I first walked in I was in awe at the selection. The manager was busy chatting with a customer and automatically I felt like home. The staff were very warm and friendly!!!
But back to the doughnuts, there is a huge variety of gourmet goods from chocolate chip cookie dough to maple bacon!!! Each were delightful to say the least. And the best part about this place is that you can have your doughnut stuffed with whatever filling you want!!’ Just ask!!! The best part of this whole experience is that everything is very reasonably priced!
I will definitely come back again!!! This is a great local business!!!

When I hear the word «artisan», I expect homemade perfection… but these doughnuts are the taste equivalent of those at Dunkin Donuts. Honestly… they taste the same. Not better or worse. They have a few extra flavors, but throwing some random toppings on a mediocre doughnut doesn’t make it a masterpiece.
On my visit today, I got a doughnut from the «specialty» case, an apple fritter, and it had a huge piece of charred black stuff on the edge. I don’t want to be a hater, I really wanted to like this place and to support local small businesses, but it’s a doughnut shop, and I have to review the doughnuts. I’ve been here twice and tried 5 different flavors, and imo they are not worth the extra $ 2 – 3.
On the plus side, the owner/​managers and bakers were very friendly and they offer free wi-​fi.

I was unreasonably excited to hear that there was an artisan donut shop opening in Naperville. I was literally counting down the days until they opened. I really love donuts.
Jo and Doh! Donuts has a few creative donuts with bacon, peanut butter, banana etc… But adding a few fun toppings to a terrible donut does not make a good donut.
Problems:
1. All their donuts are unacceptably dry
2. Donuts seem stale even when fresh
3. There is very little filling in their cream/​jelly donuts
4. Low selection/​numbers of donuts (very small glass case of donuts)
5. Overpriced
6. Bad atmosphere (staff and environment are quite cold)
Honestly, my 3 visits to Jo and Doh! Donuts were the worst donut shop experiences of my life. The Dunkin’ Donuts in Market Meadows is a better choice for both donuts and coffee.
It is unbelievable that they are opening another location. Don’t be fooled people! These are terrible donuts!

I’ll give them kudos for trying to be different, but here are the reasons this place is getting the lone star treatment.
1. Their donuts are not that great tasting. In all honesty, they were all quite dry.
2. The place is pretty barren and stale. It does not have a nice aura of warmth that a small business normally has. It feels more like simply another revenue stream for a corporate fathead.
3. They helped not one but TWO families with screaming children who were in line BEHIND ME. I will let them helping the first one family slide, since their children were rambunctious as hell, but I felt pretty insulted that they blatantly looked past me to help the second family who were in line after me. Customer service is a zero.
4. There was a hair in one of the donuts I purchased.
I remember leaving this place feeling a slightly peeved, hoping the donuts would negate the shoddy customer service, but I was soon disappointed. The hair in the donut was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I am not a huge coffee drinker though, perhaps that could have provided them some saving grace.
They do have bacon on one of their donuts, but 95% of it is dry/​crusty starch. Still not saving grace for bad customer service, overly dry donuts and hair.

After opening a new bank account, I trucked over here to give this place a try. Unfortunately I came at noon and the only donuts left were some éclair looking ones with chocolate and vanilla and some sort of nuts on top. So I opted for a coffee instead. ‘Cause three cups this morning wasn’t enough apparently.
I ordered a small hazelnut mocha. It didn’t realize how small a small is, and expensive. A 12 ounce was $ 3.50… really? I mean, it was good but I could get a little more bang for my buck at Starbucks.
I don’t know if I missed it completely, but I didn’t see any other food products (other than the previously menioned donuts). Their website states that they have bagels but I didn’t see anything on the menu boards besides coffee and donuts. I know my eyesight is terrible, but… really? Is there a secret password you need to speak in order for a menu to appear?
The place was so barren, it felt very much like a shop that wasn’t even officially open for business yet. It was a strange feeling. I was pretty disappointed. Not to mention their floor is extremely slippery. I walked in and nearly fell on my arse. It’s not like I had flip-​flops on! I had good Born clogs on my feet. Eeesh.
I’m not in the area that often, so needless to say, I won’t be giving this place another chance.

Cute place with nummy donuts… since its a small place they don’t have a huge variety of donuts… but that might be a different story if i was there at like 8am…
I tried their PB oreo donut and it was delicious but i needed milk to wash it down, i also thought the donut was a bit too cakey for my liking…
I cant wait to come back here and try some different donuts! (or as my roomie likes to say. donits)
