FCA Floor Covering Associates Of Naperville

We have used Cary Kelly at FCA Naperville for years and have always had a great experience. This time, we went to their St. Charles store (we thought Cary was working out of that location that day) where we met Jessica, the store manager. Jessica gave us the right balance of attention, advice, patience and space. She did backflips for us to get us samples of carpeting and hardwood we were looking at. Then, Cary came through, as he always has, with the order and installation.
The other note I want to make is Cary’s candor and integrity when I asked if they could unroll the carpet in their warehouse, before installation, to let it «off gas». Here was his response, «Unfortunately with the limited space we have in our warehouse — I don’t have any area where we could leave the carpet open for any significant amount of time. All of our carpets are CRI California certified meaning they meet the highest standards for off-​gassing in the country. I can ask to have the plastic wrap removed — but we won’t be able to roll it out beforehand.» Honesty. We appreciated that.
We will continue to use FCA as our go-​to source for flooring.

Recently contacted the store and dealt with Lisa Ambler, regarding replacing most of the carpet in the home. Was charged $ 50 for a whole house measurement for each room.
The quote received was not what I expected. I had requested a standard priced carpeting since it is for my rental property but received top of the line quotes.
After letting them know I won’t be going with them, I requested for the measurements I had paid for. After three days of dodging the response, I was finally emailed the following
From Lisa Ambler: «The measurement results and drawings are proprietary to FCA so all I can give you is what an order would show, which is what I already gave you. That is the 225 square yards for the whole house in carpet and 108 square yards for the originally specified rooms (family room, stairs, hall and master bedroom). «
Proprietary would have been ok had I not paid for it. Very deceptive and cheating practice of business. I know this is against the law as I paid for a measurement and did not receive the detailed measurement of each room. Have contacted my cc company to dispute this charge.

In late April, we went into a sales associates office to pick out vinyl for our main bathroom and our kitchen powder room combination. Prior to the flooring install by FCA we had high transitions from the powder room to the kitchen so i chose to pull up the ceramic and go with vinyl. We also had this issue from the hallway to the main bathroom. FCA came out to give us two quotes for each of the projects. When we received the quotes they did not make sense. For example: the quote for the powder room included the requirement that we remove the vanity (we never had a vanity in the powder room only a wall-​attached sink). After two visits from the sales associate-​Fatime and one from the scheduler, Jeff we finally received the quotes with requirement that were logical.
On June 9 they began installing the main bathroom flooring by breaking up and removing the ceramic tile. The installers tried to place all the waste ceramic and other material in our trash bins, since June 9^th was trash day. My municipal trash collectors refused to take the materials away. Our contract did require the installers to remove all waste. The installer’s assistant helped himself to water in my refrigerator and was constantly spitting in my vegetation. Finally after 2 days of work there was a hole left in the vinyl along with glue all over the floor vanity top, our bathtub and the cove base. After 2 weeks of inspections by Jeff and the FCA flooring inspector FCA finally agreed to replace it by putting on another layer. We were opposed to the second layer because the original reason for replacing the floor was height issues with the floor in the bathroom. We gave in to the FCA suggestion to just lay another vinyl layer over the installer damaged new floor, because we were running out of time to finish my bathroom before the bathtub contractor was set to start. Now we have two layers of vinyl when we were only wanting one.
We agreed to have the kitchen/​powder room covered in vinyl. Our kitchen did not suffer from noticeable squeaking prior to the removal of the old floor and the embossing of the remaining floor. However, after the old floor was ripped up there were extremely loud squeaks. Please note: our dining room and living rooms do squeak, but prior to the floor removal on Wednesday and Thursday, the kitchen did not squeak noticeably. The squeaking was discovered after the installers had left for the day on the second day (Thursday).
Later on Thursday, the day that the squeaking was found, Jeff from FCA called me to inform me that the installer had to postpone the work until next Tuesday because they said there was something wrong with the vinyl. Please note –When we looked at the vinyl in question there was a defect that looked like a hammer was dropped on it. Jeff said he was sorry and agreed to have a cove base installed in our power room and around the cabinets for free. That same day, Thursday we spoke to Jeff about the squeaks and he agreed to let my husband insert screws into the half completed floors to take care of the squeaks that appeared after the FCA first layer of flooring removal.
Later that evening, Thursday, someone washed their hands in our powder room and all the water went on the subfloor installed by FCA. We noticed some of our piping was missing. No one from FCA said anything about this situation. During this same afternoon we had a licensed plumber lowering the flange for the toilet in the powder room so the toilet so it would sit flush with the floor after the vinyl was placed down. At any time Ken the installer could have told us and we could have had the sink fixed right on the spot by the plumber who was at our home for the toilet issue.
The next day, Friday, Ken the installer called to tell me that while they were removing our floor they broke the trap on our sink in the powder room. Ken wanted to know if he could replace it on Saturday morning. We stated that we knew there was something wrong due to the water on the subfloor the night before. We called Jeff and we insisted that FCA pay for the plumber to replace the sink pipe not the flooring installer, Ken. Jeff agreed and the bill has been submitted, but no payment has been received. Please note: we had to once again arrange for a plumber and remain home during the repair, due to the fact that Ken did not mention this while the plumber was at the job site at the end of the day on Thursday after the pipe was broken. We know the timeline for this is true because the plumber was on site past the end of the day for Ken. That same day,
We are extremely disappointed in FCA as a company and with their subcontracted installers.

My wife and I went looking for tile Sunday for a kitchen remodel and even though we spent a good 30 minutes in the store, not one person acknowledged that we were even in the store. We eventually left — I guess we weren’t the type of potential customer they were looking for — one with cash on hand.

We recently had the entire first floor replaced with CoreTEC wide plank flooring. I love the material and have no regrets about choosing it. But the whole process could have been a lot better than it was. They won’t let you bring home samples and when I called that morning and asked for the measurer to bring another color, they told me he had already left for the day. I live 10 minutes from the showroom and would not have minded him being late. You need to see samples in your home’s lighting when making a major flooring purchase. Provide some samples! Luckily, I liked the sample I had originally asked them to bring better in my home than in the showroom. The communication was horrible throughout the process and there was a delay. Once the product was in and the installers came, they did not want to do the rooms in the order I requested (access points being foyer and living room for our dogs) and then on day 2, after the majority of the flooring is installed, they decide to rip out the tile in the foyer. Oh, and that’s going to be another $ 300 (they make you pay for everything upfront). I point out that there is no visqueen being used and that I had questioned why it was even necessary when I got the original quote. I’m pretty sure I paid $ 700 for this tenting material and there is dust everywhere. Now, there is demo work all around the new floors and my storm door will no longer close, one guy opened the freshly painted door into 2 heavy buckets of broken tile, and the other installer dumped a vacuum full of dust on the grass off my front porch. They repeatedly hammer on my new planks with a metal hammer while installing. I ask them to use a scrap piece in between and to stop sliding tools over them. I also tell them I’m not paying for the tile to be removed since my receipt clearly shows I paid for the visqueen (my receipt does not have an itemized breakdown of costs per item just the materials needed). So much time was spent on the phone with the home office that could have been put into the install had they been communicating better with the installers.
–1 star for sales guy disappearing after getting our deposit.
–1 star for not getting the product in when they said they would and then lying to me and saying that the installers had installed CoreTEC before when they finally called back to re-​schedule the install (they admitted they put 10 boards together to try it at the warehouse before they came over).
–1 star for not cleaning up the yard (common area of an HOA) and being rude and belligerent with me when I told them I wasn’t happy with how it was going. My husband was so angry listening to how they were trying to gaslight me when I told them why I was upset that he cursed them out about breaking the storm door. That resulted in a walk off the job for awhile and I was removing tiles myself to keep the job going and get them out of our house ASAP.
+1 star for carrying this product and having a sample of it in a container of water to show it’s waterproof.
+1 for the installers for coming back on day 3 to finish the job and doing a good job on the trim work and fixing my storm door that they broke before they left.
The fireplace was not trimmed out – just brown, goopy caulk. I asked 2 times that they leave the transitions I paid for so I could have someone else install them and they only left 10 planks. The carpet on the stairs was pulled up to do the foyer in 2 places and I was told FCA would send someone to tack it back down. I gave them 3 days to call and set that up, and surprise! No one did. I ripped it off completely and painted the stairs until I get new carpet. I can guarantee you I will never go back to FCA for that carpet. In fact, I talked to my friend who recommended them (custom kitchen and 3 bathrooms) and she said that she had the same poor communication and scheduling delays where she would take off work and not show up, and how she hired a carpenter to come and fix some things that were done shoddily. I asked her why she recommended them and it turns out that she just loved everything SHE picked out. That’s how I feel, too. I love the floor, but that’s in spite of dealing with FCA Naperville.

Highly recommend this store. Adam was extremely personable and helped us get to where we needed as far as our budget and also our liking of carpet. Checked other places and went back to him! There also was an associate named Fatima that assisted in the process… they both made us feel like appreciated customers! There are more rooms in our home to be done at a later time & FCA is where we will be!

I have been using FCA for 20 years. They have done hardwood flooring and carpeting for all 3 of my homes in Naperville. I have always been very pleased with the installers and Latti Richards-​Gonzalez is the best designer/​sales associate I’ve worked with, of all my service providers. Professional, creative, punctual… all traits that go far in my book. I’m a Realtor and have referred her to fussy clients, all who have given her glowing reviews when reporting back to me. I highly recommend Latti and FCA for all your design needs.

Worked with Lisa A. in the Naperville Design Center on a recent carpet purchase for our home. She was very knowledgeable about the product and easy to work with. Will definitely purchase from her again.
