The team at Bill Jacobs Mini are outstanding. While the dealership is out of my way, it’s worth the drive for the 5 Star Customer Service!

Update ⁵⁄₂₆ — This is an update to a prior 1 star review. The background details — they gave us a deal on a Friday, we put 1k deposit down, and made arrangements to drive the 5 hours to Naperville the following day. They changed the deal when we were an hour out. We turned the deal down and headed back to Michigan. We couldn’t believe not one sales manager called us to apologize when our salesperson knew we were coming from so far and were already on our way. On Sunday morning we sent an email to all their sales managers and the business manager. When we didn’t receive a response by Monday night, I posted the negative review.
Well, last weekend we took the long trip again to buy this car. One of their sales managers, Darren, contacted my wife to try to work out the deal. I’m not sure if he was responding to my email, the the lost sale hitting his desk, or maybe even responding from our prior negative review. He was very apologetic and wanted to work a deal out.
At any rate, we worked out what I consider to be a fair deal for the car. Darren was very nice — and hey they are a busy dealership. I understand why it might have taken them some time to follow up on a lost sale. Even though we decided to still deal with them after our initial very bad experience. They were really good in some areas and fell short in others. If this review were for their parts department — I’d give it a 5. Parts was great. We ordered some additional accessories — it was easy pleasant experience and they came in quickly. Not only that — they shipped it to us in Michigan AND called to let us know the tracking number. I’d definitely recommend.
In regards to the purchase — We bought a 2013 Mini Cooper Countryman S ALL4. We made arrangements to make the drive again and told them we would be in around 1pm on a Saturday. When we arrived — the car looked great. It was detailed and looked as new as they could make it. The salesperson that we originally dealt with was going to get us through the initial paperwork She was friendly. Clearly eager to put the past behind us. The sales manager who got us back came and greeted us as well. Things seemed to be going well — until we had to wait over 2 hours for the finance guy to do the paperwork. I mean, I would’ve understood waiting if we hadn’t made an appt to come in and buy the car. When I’ve done that in the past — we were in and out in less than 45. Yes, the Mini dealership is cool and they give you free beverages — but I didn’t want to be there all day. Especially when driving 5 hours to get there. We didn’t end up leaving until after 6pm central. Got there around 1pm. Ah well. The only other issue we had was what I’ll call a «misunderstanding» with what we negotiated for the extended warranty. They worked it out — but we had to do the paperwork twice — and show proof of the warrant that was negotiated in an email. I think part of their problem is that they are a big dealership and need some better processes in place to be more efficient. Like — the day they were initially losing the sale — the should have called. Not 2 business days later. The paperwork should have been ready when we arrived. Their salesperson should be able to walk through all the paperwork — not just a finance manager.
Yes, they did try to makeup for our initial issue. They were all very nice when we were there. If it wasn’t for the extended warranty issue and the fact we had to be at the dealership for hours when they were expecting us to come in and purchase — I’d have given them 3 stars instead. Would I purchase from again — yes… if the deal was right.

I have purchased many cars during my life time. This is the WORST experience that I have ever had. I recently traded out of the 2015 mini that I purchased from them less than a year ago. One of the reason I got out of the mini was do to many of the posts on here on how bad their service department is and the advantage they take of people.
During the trade on my mini I asked the sales people at various dealership if they refund unused portion of maintenance warranty? They all confirmed that they would. As previously posted, I purchased the maintenance with my first used mini, not knowing at the time that I would be trading it in three short months later. I was NEVER informed that the maintenance agreement was non-​refundable. I purchased a similar maintenance agreement for my Harley Davidson and when I traded it for a newer Harley the dealer gave me all the parts (oil, filters, tires, brakes) that I had not used. The Harley dealer did what was ethical, but not Bill Jacobs!
In addition to taking a screwing on the maintenance package, I learned that I had nearly $ 12,000.00 in negative equity. The new dealer that I was working with could not believe how Bill Jacobs had taken advantage of one of their customers, not only a customer, but a repeated customer.
Prior to seeking a different dealer to work with I contact the Bill Jacob’s dealership and asked them to work with me to resolve some of the negative equity. They wanted nothing to do with me. I don’t know how they stay in business, I guess there is enough of us out there that makes the mistake of trusting them only to get burned. They portray that they are giving you a great deal, while the whole time taking advantage of the customer. It is places like Bill Jacobs that given honest and ethical dealers a bad name. Believe me there are honest dealers out there, I know because I found one this time around.
Please, please, please do your homework before purchasing from Bill Jacobs Mini. Also, their maintenance fees are three times that of other dealers. Do yourself a favor and stay away from here.

Great experience here. I use to go to Patrick Mini for my car service, and now I will only go here. They had a loaner car waiting for me when I got there, and was in and out in less than 10 minutes. Thanks Dean!

Nice place, good mechanics, and World Class upsellers!!! My wife took our Mini in for scheduled maintenance and the games began. We received a quote for $ 2300+, $ 1900 of which was a fluid flushes: Brakes, Engine, Trans, everything but colon, and none of it was listed in Mini’s maintenance schedule. Needless to say we opted out and stuck with only what was necessary and won’t be back.

Mike Cupola has been the most helpful, efficient and honest mechanic that I know of, he is well experienced and is a fantastic mechanic! I will not hesitate to come back to have him help me again if I ever need the help! Make sure the next time you are in ask for Mike Cupola he’s the best!

Mixed reviews. Dean was great, but I think the costs for a new battery and bearing for the fan was TOO high. But not knowing any better, paid the $ 1,050.

TL/​DR Review of Service Dept. — Nice people, lack attention to detail and follow through in garage though. Sell you on service and parts but never have it in stock or just forget to do it.
After problems the first visit I thought that things would be better this visit. Not so much. Both times everyone that worked there was great and helpful so long as I was in the building. Once I left is when the issues happened.
— Both times I went in and sold standard tires/​parts that they needed to order. The best selling tires? Nope, they were out this most recent visit.
— Both times I was offered a rental or loaner car which is nice but shouldn’t have been needed. As I live 45 minutes away I refused a rental car this last trip to avoid wasting nearly 2 hours of my day this most recent visit.
— Both times for some reason they have replaced the rear wiper blade (thanks!) but then never actually put one back (oops!). My wife luckily noticed the first time while we were on the lot but this time I forgot to look and here we are 2 days later after they returned it and oops it is missing again. I can’t prove 100% that it is their fault but after the last visit and suddenly it being gone again I have to think they forgot.
— What finished it for me was the lack of communication. I understand people get days off there was still a big lack of communication and outright forgetting about my car. I asked to have something looked at and give the option to skip it if they dont have time and to simply return the car since I need it by a certain time. I was told they had time by someone in service. 5 hours later I called to see when they were returning the car and to see what they found. They never looked at it and had no idea how I was going to get the car, couldn’t I just come and get it? Eventually they brought it back and the driver got them a 2^nd star due to him realizing my blunder of leaving my garage opener in the loaner — thanks sir! But beyond him saving me I wasn’t impressed and will be trying to avoid going back.
So that is two strikes and time for me to go elsewhere.

Just bought a brand new 2016 MINI Cooper S 4-​door hardtop from Bill Jacob’s MINI and could not be happier. We got a great deal and the service is top notch. We drove in from the city and were extremely glad we did! This dealership has a huge selection with a wide variety of features and color options in stock. We had been to a few dealers before we came here and we’re really disappointed with the selection. Many places were just pushing to build a custom car and wait, but we didn’t want to do that so we kept looking. Bill Jacobs had many viable options for us so we made the drive out to Naperville. We worked with Alex and Ronny and they did a great job finding us a car! We originally wanted a 2015 but it ended up not working out, so they asked us to give them a couple days to find one for us and in 1.5 days they called us with two brand new options at a great price. They felt bad about the 2015 not working out and threw in a couple extras (all-​weather floor mats, a discounted protection plan, and a discount on the vehicle) to make up for the extra trip out there. Not only did we get a better car for our money, we got a great amount on our trade-​in and a super thorough walk through on the features in our new car. It worked out for the best, and we could not be happier with our purchase. The staff members are incredibly friendly, patient, thorough, and very low-​pressure. They spent a ton of time with us and helped us find the perfect car for our needs. Would definitely recommend working with this group!

should’ve read the reviews before considering this place. everyone’s on point with the service department, but i must say the ladies i spoke to on the phone are excellent with customer service. brought my car in on a monday for a quick look over and oil change, since they were a bit backed up i opted in for a loaner, which turned out to be a complimentary rental. during their lift inspection they noticed some oil on the bottom of the car so that was to be looked at during the oil change for a quote along with other cosmetic items. tuesday comes around, i call to see how the service is going, they haven’t even looked at the car yet because of the potential oil leak, but if i just want to the oil change then they can expedite it, i agree, but regardless they were to update me that night. WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY, FRIDAY comes around and i put a call in to see what the status is. still in the lot, nothing done to it. so five days with a complimentary rental, a complete inconvenience of my time and money and no work done to the car. in fact, the receipt shows that i declined any service. this is why consumers hate dealerships and realistically this experience has turned my love for mini to resentment. do yourself a favor and find a decent local shop to take your car to. sorry bill jacobs. why recommend free lifts and suggest services when you cant even handle an oil change.

I have been taking my 2010 Mini Cooper here for servicing for the past several years but will definitely not be coming back. My service experience had always been ok up to this point. I bought my 2010 Mini Cooper new from Bill Jacobs Mini in Naperville in late 2009. A few weeks ago my Mini had stalled out a couple of times while stopped at a red light and was also not accelerating properly (jerking and knocking). I brought the car in to the dealership in Naperville at my scheduled appointment time and was told no loner cars were available so I was sent to Enterprise down the street for a rental which was an extra hassle. Several days then went by without an update from my service advisor. I then called for an update and my advisor apologized for being off work the prior day. He indicated that my car needed a new chain belt because it was stretched but that someone would need to come out to approve the work from the warranty company since it was covered under my extended warranty. Several more days went by without any updates and when I called I was told by my advisor that «the warranty people are dragging their feet and they want to see records of prior servicing records». I could not understand why this could be so difficult as the only place I have ever taken my car for servicing was at this same dealership. Finally after a total of over two weeks (15 days total), I called my service advisor and he again apologized for being off work the prior day. He then indicated that my car was ready to go and that it did not need a new chain belt after all. All it needed was more oil. He said that after more oil was added, it was tested and everything was working fine. So after the dealership had my car for 15 days it was determined that all it needed was more oil. After I was able to get my car back I noticed it still had the same symptoms — jerking and knocking upon acceleration. I then took my Mini to the dealership in Schaumburg. The difference in service was like night and day. They quickly diagnosed the car as needing a new ignition coil. After doing some of my own research on ignition coils the symptoms definitely seemed similar those I was experiencing with my car. I also learned that when an ignition coil goes bad it can be very dangerous as the car can suddenly stop running even when traveling at a high rate of speed. While my car was still at the dealership in Naperville, my boyfriend took his car there for servicing. When he dropped it off he was told it would probably be a few days until they could get to it. It has now been over one week and he has not received any updates at all. I’m not sure what is going on with the service department at Bill Jacobs Mini but I would suggest that anyone think twice about taking their car there for servicing. It is only a 15 minute drive from my job but I will now be going to Patrick Mini in Schaumburg from now on.

This is specifically for the MINI SERVICE department.
Most disappointing services department in town around customer service and taking care of customers. They put just out of college «green horns» (no knowldge of cars) at the service desk and Service Manager who has no communications skills and is very UNPROFESSIONAL!
Go to Patrick Mini and it is a day and night expereince difference.
They are losing my business for sure! even for a 2015 car I just purchased.

Horrible!!! Every time I go there I wait and wait and wait. When I bought the car they told me, «If your ever in the area come in and we will wash your car.» Yeah right! I took it in and waited an hour and half for them to give my car back. Another time I went in and was told my repair would take an hour. Three hours later I begged and pleaded to have my car back because I had an important meeting to get to at my kids school only to be kept waiting another 30 minutes! This last time I stopped in wanting to make an appointment the guy told me he was busy and would get to me. I wasn’t in a hurry but I ended up having to leave and I was told as I was leaving that he couldn’t make repair appointments anyway and he had only planned to give me the automated number. Really!!! You made me wait 30 minutes to give me a phone number the he failed to give me the number giving me his card instead. I bought my mini here brand new and I truly believe it was the biggest mistake of my life. Especially since the car ALWAYS needs to be serviced.

This place ruined the car’s rep. Had to go a few times to just change the battery and was told repeatedly that the battery is fine and then supposedly the alternator was the issue which they supposedly swapped for a new one. Then only did the battery still wouldn’t work after the supposed new alternator. Before all this, the salesman said I had to get there and he’s feeling under the weather. Then not too long after, was approached via phone to get a new Mini since they’re so high in demand and that I would get a great price back for it. This also happened before the battery kept dying as well. Seems like they don’t want to fix your car but want to rope you into getting a new one by trading in your current/​old Mini.

Bought a 2011 Cadillac SRX here last night, Rachel totally ROCKED, it was a great experience 100%! Kevin, Ivan and James were great as well, I got a great car at a great price. We’ll see how the car does but the experience was top notch!

I bought my car from here. The sales person we went with was un-​knowledgeable about the cars, I was showing him stuff about the car he didn’t even know! He was nice enough to spend over an hour teaching my wife how to drive a manual in a new mini… needless to say I would not buy that manual car now :/​But thanks!
My sales agent and I agreed on a price over email, but I needed to go in to sign papers to order the car. When I got to the store, he told me he was able to get the price even lower, so I was ecstatic! He printed out the pages, I signed them without scrutinizing the price and went on my way. (This was definitely my mistake which I will never make again). Long story short, the purchase price paid was more than what was agreed upon. I spoke to a manager who said the emails didn’t matter, all that mattered was what I signed, but after arguing he agreed to a small consolation check. Which I never received. After being strung around for a few months I went back in to find that manager had left. So I pleaded my case to another manager who said there was no way I was ever going to get any money back. Lesson learned.
A few months later I got a nail in my tire. It took them 4 hours to find the nail and replace the tire. I was told it would be 1 hour.
I was told I could stop by anytime to get my windshield fluid filled. So I did. «Oh that will be an hour wait.» How about a free car wash I was told I could get at anytime? «Yeah, that’ll be an hour wait as well.»
A few months after that I went in to get my window wiper replaced because it was streaking. That was going to take them an hour! I couldn’t wait but said I would come back. I came back a few weeks later and was told that wipers could only be replaced once a year under the Boot To Bonnet Maintenance Program and since my car was only 6 months old I could not get new wipers, but I did manage to get an oil change… which took 4 hours! (It’s true that the wipers can only be replaced once a year under the warranty. Obviously no sales person would sell it that way. «We replace your wiper blades if they start streaking on you!» vs «We replace your wiper blades if they start streaking on you, but only once a year.») Since the oil change to much longer than it should have I was offered a free detailing on the interior of my car to make it look brand new. I got my car back and there was no detailing done.
During my time there I spoke with another lady who was getting some maintenance done and she told me not to get any extended warranty since it pretty much did not cover anything. Too late. She listed off the things she had done to her car and how much she was charged. She said they charged her to replace her spark plugs and I was told that spark plugs were covered under the extended warranty and told her to question it. Spark plugs are covered. Bill Jacob’s Mini team just chose to ignore her warranty and charge her. Probably thinking dumb rich Napervillian, she don’t know any better…
Unluckily, I got another nail in another tire but luckily I had purchased tire insurance. Being closer to a different dealership I went there and they explained to me that Mini Cooper offers tire insurance but the tire insurance Bill Jacobs Mini offers is not thru Mini Cooper but a third party (which isn’t illegal) but instead of being able to file the claim directly to the warranty company, it would be a self pay-​reimbursement type deal. It’s only directly submit-​able by Bill Jacobs Mini. In my opinion a ploy to get you to only go to Bill Jacobs to get stuff done and wait hours on end.
This new dealership has shown me what quality, prompt and attentive service is like. I will likely never go back to Bill Jacobs MINI or any of this other dealerships, and I hope you don’t either. (It’s conveniently located in my commute but I will happily go out of the way if I can.)

I would like to ask a favor of you. Please present me with a challenge that I would need to overcome for you to consider Bill Jacobs MINI for your next vehicle purchase. It could be anything: price, trade value, payment, or even a different vehicle than you were originally considering. Allow me the opportunity, and I will get the job done.
My response Monday:
Unless you have a time machine that can go back and remove the memory of my last interaction with your facility and employees, there is nothing to be done.
I was promised these same things by Constantine. I have a variety of phone calls, emails and text messages still saved. He got me to come in… wasn’t «on-​site» when I arrived for our schedule morning appointment and kept me waiting for 34 minutes.
Upon his arrival, I was shown 3 new vehicles, comparable to my current one. We returned to the shop where I was informed I had a fatal engine problem and wouldn’t recommend driving it. The value of my trade-​in was instantly depreciated by $ 6,000…But for $ 5,000 down we can get me into a new lease… Then the Service Manager walked by and chimed in with not wanting to take $ 140 diagnostic fee from me for something he knew was a blown engine, «it’s obvious just by listening to it». I was told it could be replaced for between $ 3,000-$ 6,000, would be best to trade it in. The sales manager then explained that your union mechanic shops charges the same to the dealer to fix as they would charge me. I don’t believe that for a second (and may recommend a revision of the corporate financial plan if that is the case. But, I digress).
As Constantine walked me to the door he informed me my car shouldn’t be driven AT ALL. It is a matter of time before it dies and leaves me stranded on the side of the road. He thought it could last me weeks, months or even a year. «After all, you don’t drive that much.»
Thankfully I did not succumb to the fear tactics. I did not give Bill Jacobs the $ 5,000 goal that the sales dept seemed to have in mind. I took my 2009 Mini with it’s 45,000 miles to Merlin’s down the street, where they diagnosed my car FOR FREE and then repaired the serpentine belt and tensioner for $ 900 parts, labor and tax included.
I’ve been shafted each time I walk through that door. The first time i put $ 2,000 to order… weeks later my car arrives for me to be told «things have changed since you ordered. Now need to either put 50% down or get a co-​signer.» The second time was when I was in to refinance the terms from Owners Choice to financing; I was pushed into signing papers right then, in September, when my lease terms were not complete until October. Mini Financial expected both to be paid that month & it was quite the inconvenience to remedy. AND the paperwork was for the wrong car. By the way… i never got a black Mini, yet often was asked which of my vehicles needed service. I was also told I would be able to reduce my payments by refinancing 12months later after building better credit. This was a flat out lie since MiniFinancial does not finance used vehicles. The 2^nd guy in sales informed me of that when I went to sign the papers for MY actual car.
I was silly to have returned the second time. Why a third?
I now pose The Challenge to YOU. What do YOU think you could offer ME that will get me to cross your threshold again?

I was interested in a Mini that was available in WI, and I was told that for a $ 500 down payment they could have the car down that day for me. Well it seems that the sales rep spoke without checking to see if it was ok with his boss, because he could not get me the car. He then tried to sell me on other Minis on the lot. I made it clear that I was only looking for a stick Turbo S in black.
I ended up calling MINI of Tinley Park and they got me the car the next day with no $ 500 down payment.

Typical dealer shenanigans here. We purchased our 2009 Mini here and it was not without frustrations. They somehow suckered us into putting down a $ 500 deposit on a Cooper, and when we later wanted out of that deal they kept telling us they would or had credited it back, but they never had even attempted to. We finally came to an agreement on a car and when we showed up for it they didn’t want to accept the financing we’d arranged with our own company and kept insisting that we fill out a credit application. Again, we threatened to walk. We should have bought the car elsewhere.
Other issues have included:
Once while our car was here for service, they chipped the paint in the door. After we pointed it out they said they’d fix it, but they did a pretty shoddy job of it. I didn’t pay a bunch of money for a car to have them treat it like crap.
On one occasion we took the car in for service and left it there. A few days before we’d walked out to our car in some parking lot and found a beer can behind the tire. I didn’t want to run over it and it was flat and dry and I threw it in the trash bin in my car and didn’t think about it again. When we picked it up for service, the beer can was ON THE PASSENGER SEAT. Why were they going through my trash, first of all? I’ll definitely empty it myself in the future in case there are any credit card receipts. And secondly, it was pretty clear that they just assumed we were driving around drinking and leaving it like that was pretty uncalled for.
Finally…Regularly when our car is in for it’s normal, covered, maintenance they try to talk us into having this or that done.
Service guy «Your Mini needs XXX and YY done it’s going to be $_​_​_​»
Husband «It’s not covered by the maintenance package?»
Service guy «No, it’s not recommended by the manufacturer, just the dealership»
Husband «So it’s not really necessary?»
Service guy «No»
Pass.
But telling them no wasn’t good enough, as they continue to call my house and leave message about the recommended service items.
I like my car, but should we decide in the future to get another Cooper, we’ll try a different dealership.

I came to Bill Jacobs last week after seeing a pre-​owned MINI online that was exactly what I was looking for. When I arrived, the particular car I had gone to see had been sold. I understand that they have a huge inventory here, but I think that cars which have been sold should be taken off of a dealership’s website immediately… am I reaching for the stars?
Anyway, my friend was with me in my quest for some new wheels. We were warmly greeted by Sal Santiago. He worked his ass off for us. He did everything he could to find a pre owned mini in their inventory that matched my needs. As I am very particular, we didn’t find anything that was «the one». After probably an hour of scouring the lot (in some pretty intense heat) without hesitation, Sal took us over to the BMW pre-​owned cars when I asked him if there was anything there in my price range. We found two great certified pre-​owned cars right away, and Sal quickly set up a test drive. He was impressively knowledgable about the BMWs I test drove — especially considering that MINIs are his domain! I decided that it was time for me to purchase a «grown up» car, and decided I wanted to purchase the BMW that I test drove. Up to this point, I was so so so happy with my experience at Bill Jacobs (thanks to the attentiveness and help of Sal — he is such an asset to this business!)
Then comes the purchasing part…
I had a 2006 MINI to trade in, and had done my fair share of research on what I should expect to get for the car. Bill Jacobs’ offer was, to say the least, laughable. Their offer was $ 2,000 lower than it should have been. I would expect that a MINI dealership would be pretty accurate in appraising their own cars! This, unfortunately was not the case (I think it’s kind of embarrassing, honestly).
I wasn’t happy with that, but I figured that, as always with a car purchase, there are numbers to play with and wiggle room here and there. Right? Wrong! The sales manager offered me a $ 750 incentive (that I had previously researched — and had to mention myself) that the company had running at the time. Whoopie! That’s about as far as I got in the negotiation process. In the end, the sales manager would not negotiate the $ 1,000 that I asked for, and lost my business as a result.
I was not willing to «give away» my 2006 MINI to Bill Jacobs. MINIs are known to hold their value well, and quite honestly their appraisal was insulting. The manager’s lack of willingness to negotiate $ 1,000 on a luxury car purchase was absolutely ridiculous, and makes a very clear statement about the kind of business that happens here.
I was very excited to buy this BMW, but in the end I am glad that I didn’t! After this extremely unpleasant experience at Bill Jacobs, I walked across the street to Naperville Lexus and drove home in a spectacular pre-​owned IS250. Lexus appraised my car at KBB value — I repeat, Lexus appraised a MINI at the appropriate value (anyone else see the irony?) and was very flexible with financing! Bill Jacobs: I suggest that you take your team on a field trip across the street to Lexus to see how respectable business is done! Making clients feel respected and valued should be one of your number one priorities!

I would never ever recommend that any of my friends take their business to Bill Jacobs. Other than the fabulous salesman Sal Santiago (who was honest, didn’t pressure us into a sale, offered every possible option and very attentive), this dealership has nothing going for it. I understand that they are in the business of making money. But what I don’t understand is how they were so unwilling to negotiate even $ 1000 on a certified pre-​owned BMW!!! They low-​balled my friend, who was ready to buy a car that day, when he brought his 2006 Mini Cooper to be appraised for a trade-​in.
