Safeway

For the 4th time. This safeway is out of add top sirloin. Was told to come back Wednesday after add was off.had a rain check.as I live across town.i called meat dept.they said yes its in.got there and the don't have any.store is a joke.this has happened at least 4 times

Multiple times I’ve been here and they hands down have the rudest most unfriendly cashiers! Today’s cashier takes the cake… unfriendly to the point that I’m finding a new grocery store. She was tall, blond and had a nose piercing. Her manager really needs to let her know how much her attitude sucks and adjust it!

They do have some of the better prices for wines in The valley. You have to buy 6 to get «the deal» but not so bad. Their deli is a joke. Nothing special as most is fried or brought in from jars or jugs… So a pass. Go to Dean and deluca and grab some real deli food! Their deli meats are not branded so again pass. But for your everyday shopping it’s clean and the staff is helpful so basically get your wine here and move on!

If you read my reviews, you know I’m a stickler for spending my money with companies that (at least try) to do the right thing. Believe me… I even exhaust myself sometimes. That being said, I rely on the Better World Shopping Guide to help me make better, more informed decisions on where best to spend my dough! Yep, you’ve guessed it! Safeway is rated below my typical threshold. I do my very best to not shop or purchase anything graded below a B-​. We all remember getting a B– in school. It was a pretty solid grade that showed you cared enough to try. But a good friend who is a fellow vegan told me that she shops at Safeway and though the pricing is consistent to Whole Foods for the vegan & organic options, when they publish their coupons you can get some really awesome deals. Since Safeway is a C– and not a scary D or F, I thought… why not? I love to have options. And, frankly, support any mainstream company who is trying to make good changes. They are located right off of Trancas so getting there is really convenient. The parking lot was pretty crazy but the other drivers were no more or less rude than they are at Whole Foods. I really liked their organic produce section and they had some vegan items that I’ve never found at other grocery stores before. I was really encouraged and pleasantly surprised by all of the choices they offer now. The drawbacks I noticed are that there is not only a small section that offers vegan-​friendly choices but that they are also strewn throughout the store. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing but being new to the store, it did mean I would have to walk down EVERY aisle to see what they offer. All it takes to resolve that is to shop there more often so I get used to the layout! The customer service side of things was just average. Though that seems to be the direction grocery stores are headed these days. A big drawback is the fact that they don’t offer a Bulk section. There is not much else in the world that gets me excited than a well stocked Bulk section! Well, there is a lot more that gets me excited but I really love bulk! I’m very glad I stopped in to check it out. It opens up another option for me and though I won’t be able to do all of my shopping there because of the lack of a Bulk section, I plan to support their positive changes whenever I can.

This «lifestyle store» Safeway has slowly improved over the years. The checker was friendly, and I didn’t mind paying a dime extra for a paper bag. This Safeway, along with the Loop market/​gas station, and the CVS across the street, are the rare 24 hour businesses. One sees lots of folks in scrubs here, since it’s not far from nursing homes&hospitals.
I was able to find a farmer’s market frittata that Whole Foods once carried for cheap, along with a coffee drink. This Safeway is perfect for the emergency breakfast run.
Unfortunately, the downtown Safeway was put permanently out of business by the August 2014 quake. It needed some cleanup&renovation. While the 2014 quake hastened the planned demolition of parts of Napa Town Center (it was a «we were going to tear it down anyhow»), it sadly put the sole grocery store in downtown out of business.
I’m happy with how this Safeway has improved.

I like their selection of foods, from the produce, meats, bakery and other foods sections. Until BevMo opens up next door, this is the place with the largest booze selection in town. Paired with a frozen pizza from the large freezer section and the local redbox, you’re set for a night in.
I usually stop here to pick up dinner before going home. I’ve never walked away empty handed. I like that they clearly label what’s organic and local. Everything is fresh, and ready to eat, or can wait a few days.

Not a favorite… have had issues in the past with unfriendly service and incorrect pricing. The ladies at the pharmacy, however, were awesome! Very caring and personable. Their attitude just didn’t rub off on the rest of the store…

Horrible customer service… So sad– I’m a long term Safeway shopper and I remember when my company would use the example of Safeway as having great customer service. Not anymore! Definitely not at this location! I couldn’t find an item, then I couldn’t find anyone that could help me find the item. Finally I tracked down a grumpy old butcher– who ignored me after I chased him down and said, «Excuse me,» three times! He continued to ignore me (even though– based on his body language it was pretty obvious he heard me!) He scurried into the back of the store and out of sight! I finally gave up and decided to check out– Ofcourse there were maybe two baggers for at least five full lines of customers! Since when did Safeway become so chincy with their staffing of courtesy clerks! Seems to be like this every week I’m shopping at this store! I’ve always been a customer– but I’m definitely looking to shop elsewhere! People still appreciate good customer service and we DO have options! Trader Joes and Luckys are right across the street… Two stars because at least the checker was nice and polite.

I’ve been a loyal Safeway customer for years. Love the gas prices and uel discount, and the Napa Safeway has the best Pharmacy staff I’ve ever met. Make me feel like I’m in a small town when they recognize me every time!
But the wait a the check stand has been getting longer of late. It started when the other Napa location closed, and the cashiers were quick to report the reason. But the situation never got better. Always a long wait.
I still went, mainly because of the Pharmacy. But today was the end. I was in line #1 with about a dozen things in my basket at around 3:00 p.m. The cashier seemed pretty flip andverly familiar with the two people in line ahead of me, but I was shocked when she told me that I could not put my groceries back in the basket and take them to my car. I asked if I was now required to buy a paper bag. «No, you can just carry the things out in your hands. We’ve been losing too many, so we don’t let them out no more.»
So now I’m a thief, too? I gave the basket to her along with the groceries in it, and I left. Five minutes later I was at Nob Hill where I took my groceries to my car, unloaded them, and took the basket back inside.
Called when I got home, and asked to speak with the General Manager. After ten minutes on hold, I gave up. I was thinking about not returning, but then I realized that all I have to do to circumvent their silly policy is ask for «help out» to the car. Then the cashier can bring the basket back herself!

Went in for there $ 5 friday special in the deli, but they were sold out. I asked how long it would take since there were a few employees standing around. The man said he thought about 30 minutes. And continued his conversation without checking for me. He walked towards the back after a minute picking his nose. Disgusting. I only shop at safeway so im guessing i will have to drive to American Canyon from now on.

Wow people be hating this place big time. I think they’ve gone through a full remodel, it’s large and newer now. A café, a bank, and all the groceries you could want. Get your road snacks and some caffeine on the way out of town.

1 star for the parking nightmare. Absolutely no parking at all times of the day. I know this hasnt always been this way. I have shopped at this safeway for 19yrs and i go atleast 2x a week. This got bad when the other safeway closed. They need to reopen the clay st. Safeway asap and in a major way or im going to quit shopping here and i know of a dozen other folks who are aswell.

Crappy service went at 8:00 pm one cashier who was obviously mad she had to work and a courtesy clerk who really didn’t want to be there either. 8 people in line and they manage get mad that they have to bag our groceries. Our egg Carton out in sideways so by the time we got home they were busted. Really feel that if you choose to be in customer service you should have the skills it’s not a hard job.

Everytime I come to this store some jackass that works here manages to piss me off. Usually it’s something along the lines of me either trying to walk into the store or trying to walk around the store and the jackass walking RIGHT in front of me and cutting me off. No excuse me, no opps I’m sorry, nothing. Like I’m invisible! I KNOW I’m not invisible! Happened again today. I decided today that next time it happens Im just going to walk right into the jackass instead of stopping so we dont collide. Yup that’s what I’m gonna do. Maybe THEN he’ll say something! Probably not.

I forgot why I dint go here today. Sad because I know the remodeled it and I do see some very nice employees but some are just very rude.

I have never had anything but good experiences with the bakery, but recently I ordered a baby shower cake and I think my two year old could’ve decorated it better. I was so embarrassed… it was the joke of the shower! We ate it anyways. (It tasted good) but when I called to let them know i wasn’t happy with it. I was reassured that the manager would get right back to me. I never did recieve a phone call. Nothing. I will never again order a cake from this bakery.

I called this Von’s over the phone seeing that the one in Saint Helena was out of Azo extra strength urinary pain relief medicine. The rude lady who answered the phone at 6:30 am (when Von’s is «super busy») put me on hold the next man who picked up the phone spoke no English… Then someone else just picked up the phone and started talking… Getting irritated and not able to deal with these people I hung up and had my boyfriend call a minute later. They said they had the product I wanted exactly. My boyfriend drove 40 minutes over there to pick up uti medicine and guess what they didn’t have… Don’t go to this safeway their customer service is awful.

I recently purchased Mothers bliss gripe water for my toddler, well once I opened it I noticed the expiration date is ⁰⁷⁄₁₃! It’s freaking December and something was on their shelf for July! Are you kidding me?! That could end up dangerous with infant/​toddler medicine not being expiration checked periodically. Shame on you Safeway! Do your job!

If I could give this particular Safeway 0 stars I would… and nothing against Safeway in general — just this specific Safeway.
I am new to the neighborhood and I loved the fact that this Safeway was so convenient to me — right around the corner from my new home. I put aside the uninviting parking lot — under construction and demolished, as well as the hodgepodge group of patrons. I have been in during the day — the employees and patrons are generally nice.
However, on May 05 in the evening, I took a walk with my fiancé and pups to Safeway. As he waited outside with the dogs, I went in to buy him some cigarettes. I should have taken the women’s name down — but I had gone in to this blonde woman’s checkout line. I did not have my ID so she would not sell the cigarettes to me She said if I was 100 yrs old, she would not sell to me without an ID. My fiancé went in 2 minutes later, without his ID, and purchased the cigarettes and they did not ask him for his ID. I am a 39 year old woman — I might look a little more youthful than your average 39 year old but I’m clearly over the age of 21. I am not one of those paranoid folks that blame discrimination but there was some kind of discrimination that just occurred. I don’t want this 1 act to deter me to how I feel about Napa — but I just moved from the city. Things like this makes me want to run back to San Francisco.
I will never go back to that Safeway again. I hope the rest of Napa is not like that woman.

Was going to put a 1 star because the frozen Maryland Crabcakes safeway appetizer was nothing like the one in the Bay Area Safeway. These looked like they were thawed and refrozen and smelled and tasted fishy. We’ve had so many issues with this Safeway Just for You Program, I did not want to take this back and wait in the long line at customer services again. So I ate it. I had 11 days of pure gout excruciating horror of pain. Plus did you see the paragraph of chemicals on the back of the black colored packaging?
On the up side, the frozen lobsters for $ 5.99 were so close to Red Lobster deliciousness, I think I’ll always go to Safeway for them and skipped the $ 30 price at the restaurant. Just «stay away» from Safeway Brand maryland crabcakes, these are dangerous, disgusting, fishy smelling, old and crappy. Had other problems with Safeway brand frozen items too, especially if they are on sale, it really means not expired but highly likely thawed and refrozed and sold to the unsuspecting public spoiled and will get you sick. You know the ones they pick up in the aisles inconsiderate shoppers throw because they are too lazy to put them away when they do not want to purchase them.
