I have always been curious about Katz and Co. My wife and I stopped by on a Saturday with our daughter. There are overpriced jams and jellies, overpriced olive oil and overpriced honeys. We spend about 15 minutes in the retail location and did not see a single soul. Literally no one. There are much better places to find condiments in the Valley, at much more reasonable prices and with actual people to sell them to you. I am not sure I grasp a business model in which you market products that are relatively common place, charge more for them than your competitors and then provide absolutely no customer service. I will not be purchasing from Katz and Co.

Ordered my friend a 3-pack of honey for her birthday. I had planned to order a variety pack from another company, but almost wet my organic free-range cotton jeans when I saw the $ 98 price tag on 9 teensy vials of liquid gold. As Katz & Co is local, I called Tuesday to see if I could pick-up the Black Button Sage, Wild Blackberry and Range Wildflower varieties in time for the party Saturday. No go, since they didn’t sell what I wanted in a retail location. But I spoke to the sweetest woman Kim who promised to gift wrap the whole thing and ensure it arrived in time. And holy someone-actually-followed-through, the insanely heavy box arrived on Thursday, beautifully wrapped and ready to be enjoyed! I’ve heard the honey is de-lish, so good in fact, that said friend has not offered me a taste. But I’m happy she’s happy. And the customer service is absolutely on point. Can’t say enough great things about this company. I’ll write another rave review when I actually get a taste.

I haven’t been to Katz & Co. but my sister-in-law gave me some December Olive Oil that we tried tonight and it’s the best olive oil I’ve ever had. I just got done trying to order some online and they are SOLDOUT! Come December, I am buying a case of this stuff!

I took a shot of liquid gold just now. That’s right. I took a shot of Katz Organic Extra-Virgin olive oil in a Unilocal shot glass. It goes down buttery smooth with a spicy kick. That kick I’ve learned — stems from the pungency within the oil — and is from a chemical compound found in the oil called oleocanthal. Which all ties into the antioxidants within the oil. Which to break it down — bascially means — the spicier — the healthier. That heat at the back of your throat is just your body telling you that it wants more. So this year — if you’re trying to think of a good present for someone — give them the gift of outstanding healthy extra virgin olive oil which has been handcrafted through both meticulous and passionate — hands. Giving the present of this oil is like giving the gift of life. Quite literally. Oh and make sure to read up on all of the wonderful uses of olive oil. Not only is it good for your insides — but it’s good for your exterior as well. It can be doubled up as a moisturizer — as well for skin healing. Anyone who knows me well. Or just a little at all — knows that sadly I don’t cook. Katz makes me want to be more domestic. That’s a massive statement right there. Trust.

Now that most summer fruits are gone(at least locally), I have expanded my horizons to include summer goodness preserved in a jar. My recent delivery from CA included raspberry, blackberry, peach, and apricot preserves, and mind you… we aren’t talking Smuckers here. Instead, this stuff is the real deal… and it better be for the price. So, for a taste of summer delivered to your door… you can’t go wrong with this place. So good.
