I’m super suprised to see bad reviews about this DMV location here on Unilocal.Given there are only a few bad reviews but STILL this dmv is by far my favorite location that I’ve visited. There’s usually never a line and if by chance there is it goes by super fast. If you live in Vallejo and have the means to go a little bit further, than I totally suggest making the extra 15 min drive to get to get to this DMV. The employees are always polite and helpful which I appreciate. If I worked at DMV I could imagine some of the mad moods I might find myself in and that’s exactly how most DMV employees act. Though the employees here may not always have a smile on their face they do their jobs courteously and professionally. Unlike other DMVs it’s not incredibly loud in here. Only downfall about this location is that there’s not that much seating area and no loud speaker to announce your number if standing outside.

This DMV use to be great then they decided to remodel it now it sucks seating is more limited and in the middle of the room around the edges a whole bunch of testing booths taking up space and the only real good thing I used all the time the automated registration machine is gone now I’m standing outside in 29 degree weather because they don’t open till 9:00 on Wednesday with 17 other people who expect it to be open at 8:00 this happens every week if you have had to do the same and are standing in line do what I did here and complain to the manager after you thaw out enough to speak. Knowing this you think they would put a pull a number box out front so everybody could go back to their car can’t type no more fingers are frozen.

I’ve been to this DMV twice. Both times were on a Saturday with appointment. I have to say these two experiences were the best experiences with a DMV office I’ve ever had. I thought the first time was just a fluke and that the second time there it would be the usual DMV mayhem, but both experiences were equally pleasant. The workers were polite and the lines were short. I highly recommend going here on a Saturday with an appointment!

I asked to speak with one and she couldn’t be bothered to get out of her chair.

Best DMV experience ever! My daughter took her driving test. Art was so great! The whole staff seems to enjoy their job and work together as a team. Worth a drive!

This has got to be the best DMV I’ve ever visited. I made an appointment at this location to have my driver’s license renewed. For my entire visit, I was probably there for 5 – 10 minutes! Very quick service! The staff members are very helpful and friendly too! I’m glad that the guy that took my driver’s license picture allowed me to take 2 different photos and had me choose which one I liked best. Awesome!!!

These folks are under siege, every day. A siege of morons who don’t listen, can’t follow directions, and can barely function in society.
I blew my top when the office was closed for what seemed like forever, for remodeling, but yet the State DMV website had no mention of this. A needlessly wasted trip.
I was in last month to get a new title and a replacement license, around 3 PM. 2 separate processes, 2 brief waits. On my way in fewer than 40 minutes. Got my license about 2 weeks later, and my title shortly after that.
For those who live within the law, the DMV is perhaps the only interaction we have with our state bureaucracy, short of paying our taxes. I think the folks who work our Napa DMV are terrific ambassadors for California government.

This DMV is beyond perfect, especially compared to the other DMV’s in California! I went in to register my car and they got me in and out in 4 minutes!!! The best feeling I’ve ever had at a dmv, thank you guys!

Best DMV I’ve been to and that’s saying a lot! Who knew DMV trips could be pleasant? Had an 11 o’clock appointment that wasn’t too necessary seeing as there were like — six people in line (appointment and non-​appointment combined) and I was second in line. All four employees I interacted with were friendly and helpful, no grumpiness whatsoever which is typically a norm to come across at DMVs? At least in my experience. But I could sympathize, heck, I’d be a little grumpy too with all the stress of being at a DMV all day.
Anyway, Walter was my driving instructor and he was no exception to the resounding friendliness! I felt comfortable and confident to take my behind-​the-​wheel drive test (which was not the case the first time around at the DMV in Santa Clara. Bleh.) He was calm, gave me enough of a heads up to make maneuvers during the test, and I passed! Thanks Walter!
I think this DMV is worth the hour trip from SF especially if you’re ever heading this way. Even if you aren’t, you could make a day out of Napa Valley. Relaxed vibe, little to no wait, gorgeous views, and cool employees.

I made my husband an appointment at 2:30pm, so we wouldn’t have to wait. Well he went in at 2:20pm and it is now almost 3:00pm and he has yet to be seen! Stuck in the car with children and it’s warm out, is no fun!!! Plus side is we are so happy this DMV is actually open on a Saturday!

The place is located in the middle of nowhere. The décor is sad and drab. And the employees are humorless.
On the other hand, I have never spent more than 15 minutes here with or without appointment. Beat that Marin and SF DMVs!
(And, yes this is as good as DMV get)

Excellent experience. Pleasant and helpful staff, minimal wait. Transferred my vehicle registration and my drivers license from Illinois to California, and the entire process went off without a hitch. Kudos California DMV.

I had my first experience at the Napa valley DMV just a couple days ago. I normally go to the DMV in Vallejo but decided to switch it up this time around in hopes for a better experience. I do admit, the experience was better but still not what i hoped it would be. I went on a regular week day around 1pm. The line was nice and quick with just 3 people ahead of me. I got my ticket and sat down. By the time i finished filling out my paperwork, my number was called. Everything was perfect until i came to desk #4, I wish i was better with names but the gentleman that worked with me looked like a very tan fellow with glasses and a horrible grown out bleach hair dye. This guy was extremely UNenthusiastic. He was rude, uninformative, and looked like he absolutly hated his life. I totally get that working at a DMV is not a fun job and that he must come accross some awful people during his day but lets be real, i didnt wanna be there either. Even when i was extra nice and had all my important paperwork ready to go, he still was a rude as can be. Also, there was a young female working in an office in the middle of the room that was blasting an unpleasent earful of Beyonce. Don’t get me wrong, shes a great artist… just not what i wanted to hear while stuck in a tiny hot building waiting to throw my hard earned money away to California.

This was one of the best DMV experiences I’ve ever had. We stopped in 15 minutes before closing and was in and out before they shut the doors. The guy that helped us was super cool/​nice (which is unusual for DMV). We came in, got a ticket, waited maybe 3 minutes before our number was called, got what we needed and asked a bunch of questions without the guy getting annoyed with us. It was a pleasant experience…

Whoa! Next time you are heading out to the DMV, take a moment to go online and see what the wait is at your DMV Office. I was going to head up to Fairfield, where you normally don’t have a long wait. When I looked online, I saw that the wait was 35 minutes, but the wait in Napa was only 15 minutes.
I ended up waiting about 20 – 25 minutes because everyone else was on the same page, but this location was awesome. Easy to find, lots of parking and friendly staff.

My 3^rd time here. I came to register another vehicle– stood in line, got my number, and pulled out a book to read but barely got through a chapter because I was called up to a booth. haha got some good service and I was out — during lunch hour! :)

Going to the DMV is not one of those «Napa Valley destinations.» Waiting in line, it’s doubtful you’ll get a complimentary wine tasting or a gourmet meal. Since MOST DMV business can be done through the mail or online, it’s easier to avoid.
The staff there are friendly; the driving test isn’t as intimidating as one would think. Recently, there were issues with black mold that have since been cleaned up.
Oddly, the DMV’s two biggest problems really don’t deal with the facility or the staff. It’s difficult to get into (a driving test in itself) and the road needs major paving.
It’s OK for a government office and people watching.
