Nature & Wildlife river boat tours: Southern Blackwater River

At Waccamaw River Tours, you will explore by boat the beautiful cypress lined Waccamaw River, Intracoastal Waterway and its creeks/​swamp; in search of birds, and other wildlife that inhabit these southern waters along the untouched National Wildlife Refuge. The majesty of the moss lined river is breathtaking and the peacefulness of this natural area is appealing to all. Large osprey nest can be seen along the river. You also may see heron, egrets, cormorants, ducks, turtles and alligators. You’ll be greeted by roaming peacocks and gaze upon exotic animals such as bison, zebra, fallow deer, emus, and sheep on the drive to & from our docks at the back of the Waccatee Zoo. Waccamaw River Tours is a separate business from the Zoo. We have our own parking area in the back and parking is free. Learn about the history of this river and surrounding areas. It is a historic and educational exploration of nature for all ages.

Check-​in is located in the Gift Shop. Enjoy the Gift shop and Education Station. You can learn about and see pictures of wildlife in the Education Station. You will also be able to enjoy games on the property or just embrace the beauty of the river from one of several rocking chairs & swing.

History

Established in 2013.

Our love for the water and our desire to share this marvelous river are what made Waccamaw River Tours! Oct 2013 we started creating Waccamaw River Tours with a 6-​passenger pontoon boat doing nature & wildlife river boat tours and expanded by May 2014 with a larger 49-​passenger pontoon boat.

Captain Rick has 30 years of experience sailing and captaining sightseeing cruises, dinner boats and casino boats. Kim brings her love of nature, wildlife and education.

Captain Rick Lanigan and his partner Kim Carlson have combined their loves into Waccamaw River Tours. Waccamaw River Tours is an exploration and educational experience of the natural southern rivers, its wildlife and history by boat.
