Stevenot Winery Tasting Room

Great place! Awesome staff. Really good wines. A definite stop when in town. They do my rush you when tasting, like some places do.

Love this Winery and all the great items to buy for my home or as gifts.
Stevenot wine is one of my favorites, especially their bubbly and Tempranillo. I was there this past weekend and not only did we buy three cases of our favorite Wines but we did some shopping for the house. Out of all the tasting rooms we went to Stevenot had the cutest and most original gift items.
Whoever does the buying has amazing taste.
The pours were perfect and Loraine was above and beyond Personable.
We are now wine club members. Can’t wait to come back mid summer.

Tasting room manager and sales director had a weird tension/​vibe going on between them and we felt kind of awkward the whole time… wine was good, not great. Downside, no bathrooms. Would like to give it another try to see if we could have a better experience.

My husband and I stopped for a tasting here while visiting Murphys. Their tasting room is super cute and wasn’t overly crowded. That day’s tastings were a handful of their «reserva» wines and we enjoyed all of them (my husband especially loved the white late harvest wine). The only negative is that they have the smallest pours I have ever seen.

My review isn’t based on the customer service because the young lady that served us was very kind and attentive, hence 2 stars instead of 1. The rating is based on the wine. I was surprised to see that the reviews for Stevenot were typically higher than I would have imagined. Not only myself, but also the person I was with, weren’t impressed by the tastings at all. They seemed a little watered down so to speak, too fruity and tart in flavor… I felt like the reds had a lot of tannins. If you enjoy a richer tasting red, unfortunately I wouldn’t stop in then. There is a 5 dollar tasting fee but I think it’s waived if you buy wine… Not totally sure since we didn’t buy any wine here. I don’t think I would come back, Lavender Ridge and Tanner that are across the street definitely stole my heart.

Ok, this review is long overdue. I’ll keep this short, (probably not). Hands down, this is my favorite winery tasting room in Murphys. Everyone who works there seems so sincere and friendly, the wine is excellent, prices are very reasonable, and the ambiance /​atmosphere really works. The most recent little bonus they have added is the sale of cigars :).

Anyone who’s been around Murphys knows that they are one of the older wineries. They have stayed present as other wineries have come and gone. The current owners have it right. My tasting experiences have always been with a courteous and knowledgeable staff member with exquisite varietals. Naturally I did not care for some varietals but that is based on my palates preferences, not their skill.
Being in the center of downtown this is a must-​visit location.

Fun ladies were in charge of the ship when we visited, offering tips about the surrounding area and encouraging us to try more and more delicious wines. So then they twisted our Arms and we bought a ton. Hee hee.

My favorite wine, of course! I just love the family atmosphere of the place. =)

We had a great time at this tasting room. The owner is generally there. He is extremely nice and has a heavy pour as he wants his customers to really taste the wine to get the full experience. The wine is good, not great. But I would highly recommend you to go there, because the owner really made us feel at home there.

Some of the wine was good but not great. The Orange Muscat stood out so we bought that.
The server is friendly and very helpful.
$ 5 for tasting but they will credit you if you buy a bottle of wine.

They’ve got some pretty good stuff here. I particularly liked their sparkling wine (the balance of sweet and dry is perfect) and their albarino. We ended up buying a case! I didn’t try any of the reds… but I did hit the muscat before we left. Very sweet but a little on the syrupy side. The tasting room has a bunch of fun gifts and accessories for sale and was remodeled since last time we were there; I love the new granite bar. Very pretty!

We visited Stevenot Winery on Saturday, March 5^th, just past 4pm. This is a review for the site on Main Street. When we walked in, we were greeted by music (I believe the only winery we visited that had music), and 2 great guys, David and Jon. 4 of us were drinking, as the other 5 had hit their limit at this point. Weak.
This tasting room is made by the wines, and the owners of the winery, Jon and David. They are very personable, and our group had a fun time drinking and chatting it up. We were able to taste all that they were pouring, and then other wines behind the bar. You cannot go wrong with that!
Some of the wines that we enjoyed were: Tempranillo, Orange Muscat, Petite Sirah, Cab, the Albarino, Barbera, and Sparkling Wine. I bought a bottle of Barbera, which I really enjoyed. My wife did also, so I will need to hide that from her.
We really enjoyed Stevenot, and especially Jon and David. A Must Stop in Murphys.

Stopped in for an afternoon tasting and ended up buying a case…

Long time visitor to Stevenot and former Stevenot Wine Club member for Many years.
A lot of other posters here are talking about the «good ol’ days» when you could go to the winery on Sheep Ranch Rd. for tasting (GREAT place, but…)
there’s been a big change: the Winery on Sheep Ranch Rd. is no longer affiliated with the Tasting Room on Main St. in Murphys.
We loved going out to Sheep Ranch for tasting, tours, picnics. But it’s not called Stevenot anymore.
After so many years as repeat customers, bringing in family & friends, purchasing who knows how many cases of wine, we are surprised that they don’t treat their Members better.
Tasting is iffy:
–miserly pours
–you have to ask for each varietal to taste, there no longer seems to be «routine». It’s hard for the old guy to keep track of who/​what he has poured. If you don’t ask, you’ll be skipped over.
They’re happy to sell you wine, but as a tasting room, there are MANY other options on Main St. Another poster wrote, «I just didn’t feel comfortable there».

My very favorite Murphy’s wine! There is an actual «Tasting Room» on Main Street (this business has been «Mislabeled») but if you want to elude the throngs of people that now flock to the area to hob nob, take the at times narrow and a bit bumpy trip up the hill to the place where it all happens!
This is a very rustic, out of the way, beautiful locale to wine taste. The house where the tasting happens on the actual winery grounds is a little hidden gem. The pourers are informational and friendly and you just need to scoot in and belly up to the bar or folks won’t move out of your way. Pretend you’re in SF trying to find a parking place-​not that it’s THAT crowded, folks just love the wine and don’t want to stop tasting! Go to Murphy’s, preferably not on a 3-​day weekend, folks this little sleeper town has woken up, and enjoy a lazy afternoon at Stevenot-it’s not fancy, it’s peaceful, serene and a wonderful little getaway from the buzz of the valley!

Great location along the main drag and delicious wines. Very nice service by two gentlemen who have been with the winery for years. Bonus «yay» for offering tasty, neutral crackers that help clear the palate between sips.
We stopped in on a Sunday and there were just enough spots left for us to squeeze in… we were actually waiting for a restaurant to open back up for dinner hours and thank goodness for that. I enjoyed all the wines I tasted and ended up leaving with several bottles. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that we’re already planning another visit.
The tasting room could be bigger but the wine and service make up for it. I’d add this to the must-​visit list if you’re in the area and enjoy wine.

It may seem easier to stop at Stevenot’s tasting room on Main St., but I implore you to make the short but windy drive to the actual vineyard/​winery.
The drive is beautiful, and you get to see the vines. They were the first modern winery in Calaveras County, so from a historic point of view, you owe it to yourself to check it out.
The tasting room is much bigger and wide open than on Main St. Serving the same large menu of tasting; if you actually tasted everything, you would be three-​sheets-​to-​the-​wind, for sure.
They make Chardonnay how I like it: toasty creamy vanilla. Just the right amount of oak. It is certainly well-​crafted.
Their Tempranillo really made me cream my jeans. I LOVE Tempranillo, and theirs was fantastic.
The Orange Muscat was pretty noteworthy as well. Although not mentioned on the description, it tasted like lychee and green tea to me.
Make this your midway stop on you Murphy’s trip and pack a picnic, because they have several tables under a vine-​covered trellis. Very serene and beautiful spot to drink some of that wine you purchased.

Stevenot produces a low cost wine at a pretty high quality. Compared to the «Wal-​Mart» winery aka Ironstone up the road, this place has a real charm to it. I just love the vibe I get from the employees and the property is so picturesque. No huge paved parking lots, just a dirt road with haphazard parking. One thing both my boyfriend and I love about this place is that they don’t use pour stoppers. With the free pouring and free spirits of Stevenot you will definitely have a fun experience.
Just outside the tasting room are some picnic tables which are perfect for lunch. You can also walk over and check out the Alaska House which is pretty cool looking. We took a walk down the path about a mile and half down, it was so tranquil and beautiful. My boyfriend definitely won romance points by taking me here!
