History

Established in 2015.

JoMa is the name that Jo Ann’s grandchildren call her. She comes from Portuguese and Swiss heritage, her grandparents having immigrated to America to start a dairy business. Memories of drawing a sweet strawberry through cream-​topped ice cold milk, are still fresh in JoMa’s mind:

«The whole family would take turns cranking the handle of the White Mountain ice cream maker. Even though I was the youngest, I always wanted to be the one that could turn it the longest.»

Don and Jo Ann are long time entrepreneurs with an attention to detail. They have owned and managed many successful businesses, but JoMa’s is their favorite one! They both attended ice cream school, built a state certified factory on their property, and as a result make fantastic ice cream

Delicious sorbets!!! I choose to avoid dairy so I’m so grateful for this place and their selection of treats! Hubby gets his ice cream fix, while I’m able to enjoy a treat of my own! We’ve been here a couple times and each time the service is great as well as the ice cream and sorbets! Great place whether it’s cold or hot outside!

In addition to making really tasty, rich and creamy ice cream, the owners of JoMa’s Artisan Ice Cream are valuable members of the Murphys community. They recently became Mentor Rewards Program partners offering a two-​for-​one discount to matches in the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program. They also hosted a tour of their ice cream factory for mentors and mentees. The kids had a blast watching the ice cream being made! Please support this valuable local business.

Oh my lord if you truly love ice cream do not pass by Joma’s. All home made, all fresh ingredients, they even make their own waffle cones. They have a vanilla bean and honey ice cream that is honestly the best I’ve ever enjoyed.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaay too sweet. Even the kids tossed theirs after two bites. Also the front end is so disorganized; for example, I asked to try a sample and the lady taking our order handed the tester spoon to another lady, who handed it to a third lady, who put the spoon in the dirty spoon cup. The bottom line: it will satisfy a very sweet tooth if you’re prepared to wait awhile and repeat your order several times.

My sister had one of their sorbets and enjoyed it. My brother in law and I passed it up and realized later that we probably wouldn’t have if there had been pictures of the ice cream since their set up has everything covered up. Just a recommendation for more business

I came here on a recommendation from Tanja at Four Winds. Tanja told me to get the house made waffle cone and she was definitely right. The cone was light, toasty, and crumbly. I sampled vanilla, chocolate and hazelnut, and coffee ice creams. All three were a bit sweeter than I prefer, but the texture was really nice. I wish it had been less awkward to ask for a sample. I would have tried more, but I was holding up the line.
