Steve’s Fixit Shop LLC

Three years ago I totaled my truck. After I finally got my insurance reimbursement, I bumped into this mechanic, Steve Wright, who basically said he could build a custom truck by hand if I had the time on my hands. Loving older International crew cabs, I found one in CA and then a Dodge pickup with a Cummins diesel engine. He then helped me replace all of the older mechanical parts of the International with the newer engine, transmission, steering and brake systems of the Dodge. What I have now is a custom built, eco-​friendly (it runs biodiesel), truck that is essentially brand new! This guy is a mechanical genius! Can’t find a part, no problem, he’ll fabricate it by hand! Need a welder, axle or transmission specialist, or perhaps you need a lift kit installed, or someone who can fit a custom gas tank or after-​market tire carrier to your rig — he did it all. It did take a while, and his shop is in Mulino (nice drive though…) but what I have now is a one of a kind, custom built pickup that works with conventional parts for a change. At $ 45 an hour ($ 55 for fabrication) I saved hundreds of dollars and got exactly what I wanted. Given that I had run out of Portland mechanics who would even entertain working on older trucks, I feel like I finally found someone who gave a damn about my project and was honest enough to get the work done right the first time around. Great mechanic, nice guy, very committed to his work and LOVES to solve mechanical problems. Go the extra mile to see him. It’s really worth it!
