Description

Specialties

When I moved here from San Fran 6yrs ago, this was the 1st restaurant I visited & still have not left. Here’s why:

BEER: Craft beer brewed on site, with recipes tested over 20yrs.

Full bar, $ 1 Half Pint Night, 50 Cent ½ pints during all Sharks’ games (1st period), weekday HOppy Hour from 4 – 6:30.

PUB GRUB: Burgers all made from scratch, ground in house, from top sirloin, to game, to turkey burgers. Also delish are house made chicken, wild boar & alligator sausages. Out of our smoker come baby back ribs, local trout & salmon.

Oh yeah, great salads too. We now offer smaller sized salads & sandwiches, saving your tummy & your wallet.

SPACE: Patio & beer garden for private events. Great atmosphere for company get togethers, Sunday football watching, or pre-nightlife meet up. Come say hi to our friendly staff & let us know you found us on Yelp.

If you haven’t been here before, welcome. If you’ve been a regular with us the past 2 decades, welcome back… and Cheers!

History

Established in 1987.

During the Industrial Revolution, the system of «tied houses» and «free houses» emerged in England. A «tied house» was a pub owned by a brewery and allowed to sell only beer manufactured by that one brewery. A «free house» was owned privately and allowed to sell any type of beer.

Our Tied House was established in 1987; on January 7, 1988 the first pint of beer was poured.

Expertly brewed by the Brew Crew, our beers have won consistent acclaim. Our crew brews with uncompromising professionalism and respect for the traditional brewer’s craft and trade, meeting all the rules of the strictest law about production of beer — The German Reinheitsgebot of 1516 A.D., using a brewing method that is as traditional as it is simple. Only four ingredients are used: WATER, MALT, HOPS and YEAST.

We’ve held this tradition for over 20 years, winning us countless GABF titles, and national and state competitions. We even had a coaster sent into space with NASA. We look forward to pouring you a pint.

Manager

Navigating my way through a far off land called the South Bay, this San Francisco native felt out of place, missing the small neighborhood feel of SF, the mom & pop stores and restaurants, the uniqueness that the City is famously infamous for.

Then came Tied House. I waited tables here for 4 years before working my way up to Marketing Director. Before here I worked in food service and hospitality for 10 years. Like everyone else I said, «just until I’m done with college.» Two degrees later, I am still here.

This place has something different, or actually, identifiable. Different than other South Bay eateries, but identifiable to those I remember growing up.

The spirit of those mom & pop places in my hometown live on here. Still family owned after nearly 21 years, with employees, like Mario, or regulars, like Steve and Andy, who have been here since we opened, and still brewing with traditional methods in small batches. I hope you feel a little Tied House spirit when you visit us.
