Sylvan Square Apartments

I recently moved out of Sylvan Square but greatly enjoyed my time there. The property is very well managed and it is a very clean, quiet and relaxing area. Janice, the property manager, is very responsive to the needs of residents and cares very much for the complex. It is a great place for those working in Mountain View and a very good environment for families or young professionals.

I was walking by and had a terrible encounter with the woman working in the office. She was older, short light hair, and drawn on eyebrows… so incredibly rude. I diffused the situation, but I left telling her that her attitude was steering our interaction into the negative for no reason.

We recently moved out of Sylvan Square Apartments due to a work transfer and already miss it. It was a wonderful and safe home for our growing family.
We cannot say enough good things about Janice the property manager. She is caring, professional, funny and maintains a very clean and organized property all around.
The landscaping and pool offer an outdoor oasis in the middle of hectic Silicon Valley. With easy highway access too, Sylvan Square Apartments is an ideal spot for anyone working along the peninsula.
All around a fantastic property and an even better property manager.

Great place. When I was shopping around other places were so expensive and poorly managed. Sylvan Square is pristine, clean, and very well managed. Any problems they are quick to respond and professional (if I am not present they will ask for permission to enter and leave a notification). Thoroughly happy and my wife loves them also. Great facilities, gym, pool, and laundry on site.
Not sure about the other complaints but rent is more than reasonable for MV and quality of grounds. The walls?!? I don’t hear my neighbors unless they are loud, and typically we understand that it isn’t a frequent occurrence so we understand.

If you want to live at Sylvan Square Apartments, then you’re going to need to deal with Nurse Ratched. When you stop by the manager’s office, please tell Nurse Ratched I said hello! Reid

Outstanding property. Outstanding landscaping. Excellent management.
We lived here for many years. Since the property was built in the 60s, interiors are much more spacious than recently built apartments, but now apartments are completely remodeled with trendy, new kitchen cabinets, floors, and appliances, as are bathrooms. So you get the best of both eras.
We never really paid attention to landscaping until we moved here. The grounds are spacious and really well maintained. Flowers, for example, are changed multiple times each year. Gardeners come each week to cut grass and blow leaves. Over the years, we’ve seen many hummingbird nests and baby hummingbirds.
Janice, the on-​site manager, brought a clean professionalism over the prior manager. Gone are endless ant infestations and late-​night parties and noise. The gym, with decrepit equipment, used to be in a basement room… a bit scary at night. Now, commercial gym equipment overlooks the pools and gets lots of sunlight.
Overall the property is well maintained. Each year, Janice and the owners make large investments: new sandstone tile around the pool, major repairs of the plumbing system, partial remodels of occupied units. Individual repairs used to be an issue. Now the on-​site maintenance man will often respond to even a minor repair within an hour. He has been attentive to repair details and has a great customer-​service personality.
Some of the other reviews overstate the rules enforcement. We appreciated clear rules and consistent enforcement. It made for a quieter, clearer, and better maintained home. In any apartment complex, some of your neighbors are loud and messy. Janice likely works hard to keep the rest of us happy.
This was a great home. Highly recommended.

I’ve lived there for 3 years, so here’s a brief summary:
Pros:
+ nice layout of apt complex
+ location is good
+ renovated apartments with granite counter-​tops
+ high vaulted ceilings
Cons:
— $$$$
— very restricted pool and gym hours
— only available month-​to-​month
— very thin walls! I could hear my neighbors snoring as if they were right next to me!
— very old complex with very thin walls — I could hear my neighbor snore
— every few weeks there are new bylaws posted to people’s doors — it’s rather annoying
— the apartment management is extremely strict about rules and bylaws, and is basically continuously harassing tenants
— two of my neighbors who were long-​time residents in good standing, were kicked-​out of their apartments — I’ve never seen something like this before.
— when we moved out, the apartment manager made up frivolous charges on the deposit settlement, charging us for hooks which were already in the ceiling when I moved in; charging for several hours of maintenance without any explanation.
I would not recommend this apt complex!

Great place to live, exterior look is deceiving — apartments are renovated with top of the line appliances, granite countertops and nice wall color. Beautiful pool and lots of greenery, but the biggest bonus is the location. You can walk to the grocery store, and you’re close to the main highways, just far enough to escape the noise. Lot’s of shopping close by. Management is strong, so you’re well taken care of.

+ Big rooms
+ Janice (apartment manager) was helpful but strict about apartment rules.
+ Location: close to El camino, 237, 85
+ I was extremely happy about the deposit settlement when I moved out.
Cons:
— Basic gym
— $$$$ compared some of the other apartments around.
Over all a pleasant experience.
