History

Established in 1992.

Patrick F. McEvoy, DDS, FAGD initially worked alongside long time Mountain View dentist, Dr. Robert Colpitts. When Dr. Colpitts retired in 1992, he entrusted Dr. McEvoy to continue to care for his patients as the primary dentist in the practice. Many of the patients who come to this office today are original patients of Dr. Colpitts and have been with the office for more than 25 years.

Most of the hygienist have also been with the practice for many years and have many loyal patients with whom they’ve developed a long term relationship. Cathy worked with Dr. Colpitts and has been with the office for 25 years and Debbie for 15 years. The newest member of the hygiene team is Peggy and she is developing quite a following. Kim and Lo, Dr. McEvoy’s assistants have been with him for 17 and 9 years, respectively. The smiling front desk staff, Susy and Rosie, have both been loyal and dedicated managers forever and know all of the patients by name when they walk in the door.

Patrick F. McEvoy, DDS, FAGD is a long time resident of Mountain View, California. Although originally from Ireland, and then England, he has called California his home for over 25 years. He came to the United States to learn Implant Dentistry at Columbia University in New York City. He graduated with a Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry and The American Academy of Implant Dentistry in 2002 and has continued to accumulate thousands of hours of continuing education with an emphasis on oral implantology and restorative dentistry. In addition, he has studied and practices the fine art of cosmetic dentistry and restorative dentistry. He is dedicated to ensuring his office is equipped with the latest dental technology to make the patient’s experience comfortable, quick and pain free.

Dr. McEvoy is an avid cyclist, sailor and loves to tend to his citrus trees in his garden. He is the proud father of two Mountain View High School graduates and was recently married.

I HATE dental work, even cleanings. It feels invasive and overwhelming. Other dentists refused to talk about my wisdom teeth, so I never got them removed and now my teeth are crowded. One dentist stuck an anesthetic needle in a place that triggered a traumatic flashback of falling smack on my upper front incisors during a difficult time in my life. But cavities need to be taken care of!!! I searched the web for a Mountain View area practice that specializes in «gentle dentistry». Dr. McEvoy sounded like the best fit based on reading his website. Today, I had an X-​ray and Exam.
His 2 front office staff, Rosie and Susie, are professional and friendly in person and on the phone. The office location was super easy to find, on the corner of Grant Rd. and South Dr., right by the hospital. The reception room is the most comfortable one I have ever been in! The color scheme is nice. A generously sized opaque skylight provides excellent reading light and put me at ease. The seating is comfortable and has arm rests. A family of 5 came in and there was still plenty of seating left. The coffee table has an abundance of magazines, which I didn’t have time to read.
Rosie took the x-​ray, which was quick and painless. No bite-​wings to gag on repeatedly!
Dr. McEvoy gave me a thorough exam, taking photos with a camera wand and showing me what needs fixing. He encouraged questions and was more thorough than any other dentist I’ve been to in the past. I appreciate that he took the time, not only to talk about the necessary dental work and not-​as-​necessary work and to anticipate and answer my questions, but also to recommend Invisalign to prevent more enamel from wearing off a misaligned tooth and it’s cramped neighbor. Though the appearance of overlapping teeth does not concern me, the functionality does: the misalignment makes it difficult to clean around the tooth and it’s neighbors. I had already noticed the subtle jagged edges on the tip of this tooth and it’s neighbor and wondered what was going on? The misalignment is causing them to strike every time I bite, wearing the surface. I didn’t know that there is a relatively easy and not-​too-​expensive way to correct this simple, but troubling issue. I definitely plan to do this in the future, when I have up to $ 3600 to spare.
Dr. McEvoy prioritized the most important work and his staff immediately gave me an itemized quote and told me which dental insurance they accept. As a part-​time, low-​pay worker and a student, this is extremely important and necessary. His rates seem quite fair. Not cheap, but I can no longer force myself to go to cheap, conventional dentists. I’m worth more than that.
I’ve come away with the feeling that Dr. McEvoy is honest and passionate about providing quality dental care and utilizing modern technologies to enhance comfort.
I plan to update my review after I have my cavities filled.

I’ve been seeing Patrick for 10 years now. He is the best dentist I’ve ever worked with and he loves his work. His team around him have worked together for many years and are just as awesome. I’ve recommended Patrick to many friends over the years and none have been anything less than delighted. And very reasonably priced too, for the best dentist in the area especially so. 6 stars out of 5.

I have been going to Dr McEvoy for over 15 years. He and his staff are the best! I recently had a crown replaced. Whereas before I would always have to get a temporary crown and come later, Dr McEvoy’s office fabricated the new crown THE SAME DAY, and I went home with the entire procedure complete. I can’t recommend this practice highly enough.

I refer to Dr. McEvoy as the painless dentist, & I have been going to him for over 20 years. He always explains my options and has never tried to get me to sign up for any treatment that was not completely necessary.
He is absolutely top notch in every way, extremely professional and always on the cutting edge of dental care. He is very caring & continually asks me how I am doing the entire time. He has an amazing staff who support him. Susie and Rosie in the front are friendly and always trying to do the best for me. Debbie, my hygienist is so knowledgeable & truly the best. I would be remiss if I did not mention Dr. McEvoy’s assistant, Kim who is his right arm and someone great to advise me.
In total, Dr. McEvoy truly rocks!!!

A friend of mine introduced me to Dr. McEvoy 5 years ago and I have nothing but good things to say about his skill, Patient care and interactions of both him and his entire staff. From the first appt to the one I had today I have had nothing but excellent pain-​free service.
His front desk staff has always been as wonderful as they are professional (Both are outstanding) and he and the dental staff have always listened to me and addressed any concerns that I have.
He and his staff keep up on the latest technology and are big proponents of educating the client base.
I would (and have) recommend his services to friends and family.

I am 39yo and I have not had a set of teeth as healthy in my 20s. I have no root canals, no brown spots whatsoever, healthy gums and all natural teeth with only some partial crowns and resin fillings here and there. Everything is white and sparkling and it is Dr. McEvoy’s and his team of hygienists’ achievement. I have been a loyal customer for the last 6 years. Would definitely recommend him if you have good dental insurance. Dr. McEvoy is extremely professional and knowledgeable.
Oh also wanted to mention the oral surgeon that I was referred to for my wisdom teeth operation was superb!

Ignore the doctor’s marketing response on here. He does not care about the patient — most of his response was just geared toward boasting about his equipment and what he thinks of himself! If he truly cared about the patient, he would have private messaged me to see how I was doing rather than post a message for the world to advertise himself.
There’s even another review on here (Don W.) where the person describes his lack of concern for health and pain!
I got deeply sick, had to see a primary care doctor because of the condition he left me in, etc. My other family members who wanted to see him, didn’t go because of this experience.
I called his office numerous times and left my number. He had the opportunity to help me while I was ill due to his care.
And the doctor did NOT provide his private number for emergencies.
I sincerely hope Dr. McEvoy begins to take his patients’ feelings and health more seriously since the time my FAMILY saw him and subsequently stopped seeing him! I sincerely hope he has learned from our family’s experience!

The new laser is fantastic: the procedure was fast and painless.

I’ve never before written a review on a service provider of any kind. I can not however not write a review on Dr. Patrick McEvoy. I walked out of his office recently feeling like a new person. Since I was a child I have struggled with the way my front teeth look. I knocked out both teeth early on and have never, no matter how much time and money I spent, been comfortable with how I looked. I actually never really smiled. In photos I am always covering my front teeth with my lip, never really smiling. Many dentists through the years promised to fix my smile but I was always disappointed with the results. I actually gave up thinking the situation would ever improve. But Dr. McEvoy changed that! Today I am no longer hiding. I am smiling. My husband calls it my «Denzel smile,» (as in Denzel Washington). I am thrilled with my new teeth, my new smile. Dr. McEvoy, Rosie, Suzy and his entire office staff. I love them all. At one point in the procedure I had to make a decision. Dr. McEvoy helped me by saying, «If you were my family I would advise you to…» I believed he meant it and my decision was made. Amazing! The entire experience was COMPLETELY painless, affordable and best of all I felt honestly cared for. I am one happy girl! Thank you Dr. McEvoy!!!

As I was glancing through the newspaper this morning I noticed a headline,“Who is the best dentist in the Bay Area?” i thought it to be a contest and I felt compelled to write… but then realized it was an advertisement. Then I thought… if you feel this strongly, write to Unilocal!Dr. Mc Evoy is extraordinarily gentle and sincerely concerned about his patients. When we moved to California five years ago, after having a top rated dentist in NJ, I thought, i would never be pleased with future dental care and I should not set my expectations unreasonably high. However to my great glee, Dr. Mc Evoy exceeded the highest regard anyone could have for a dentist. I read two negative reviews on Unilocal and am horrified and find it incredulous. I am now thrilled that I took the time to contact Unilocal.The welcoming staff and superb hygenists are thorough and superb. Bravo to all!

We have been going to Dr. McEvoy for many years, about 15. He is gentle and very professional. His hygienists are super, really great with my daughter, who is now 9. She saw them at 2 and has been coming back every 6 months. He did beautiful veneers for me and it was done gently and with much concern for comfort.

My husband and I scheduled back to back appointments a month ahead for out first visit. We are new to CA and just got dental insurance! The staff was courteous and offered bottled water. We did wait quite a bit– but they made up for it with free teeth whitening and we took the trays and extra whitener home along with 2 goody bags of gum toothbrushes and gum expandable floss + 10 $ off sonicare. Debbie was my dental hygienist and she was thorough and friendly– no pain for either if us. We did not have cavities! We will be going back for our 6 month cleaning :)

Dr. McEvoy is capable of doing good work and he has some very good people working for him (hygienists).
Unfortunately, in our experience, Dr. McEvoy’s treatment of patients fell short in two important ways:
1. He consistently showed a callous disregard for the patient’s pain when it was inconvenient for him (called for taking time to administer additional anesthetic). He exhibited outright irritation and was highly condescending in his manner, denying the reality of the patient’s pain.
2. He was inappropriately aggressive in pushing costly treatment options onto the patient, attempting to utilize public ridicule and embarrassment as a technique to pressure the patient into accepting the plan, speaking at a volume that everyone in the entire area could hear what was being said. This is unprofessional and unethical, possibly even a violation of patient privacy under HIPAA (the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996).
Here, too, he showed a callous disregard for the patient’s situation. In this case, it was callous disregard for the fact that the patient could not at the time afford the plan. The implication was, ‘Just put it on a credit card. You can always charge it to your credit card.‘
The answer to that is, ‘What if the credit card is already maxed out and does not have the space on it to charge thousands of dollars?’ Or, ‘What if it does have the space but we would be unable to make the payments?’ Or, ‘As bad as you make it sound that we are unable to afford the thousands of dollars of treatment at this time, would it not be even worse if we were unable to pay you?’ Sure, all you have to do is send the item into collection. But where would that leave us? We want to be responsible in handling our finances.
It was as if the only thing that mattered to Dr. McEvoy was Dr. McEvoy. It was all about him and not about the patient. This is not what we look for in a health care provider.
Nor does it seem to make even good business sense, with regard to patients who over the years have paid out thousands of dollars in treatment. Needless to say, perhaps, we are no longer patients of Dr. McEvoy.
I would give more stars, in recognition of the two points initially mentioned, but Unilocal’s definition of three stars is ‘A-​OK’ and this situation is not ‘A-​OK.’ Unilocal’s definition of two stars is ‘I’ve experienced better.’ The situation here does not meet that standard. It’s clearly a ‘thumbs-​down’ scenario.
It is with regret that I write this review.

This is my first Unilocal review ever. I was so impressed by the service I have received that after getting home I was searching for my laptop to write a review.
The office is great, the staff is super friendly and they took care of me soooo well. During the treatment I was given glasses from which i can see the movie of my choice and the hour just flew by. And the outcome was just perfect.
Above all the doctor is just AWESOME. He is very caring and POLITE and of course highly knowledgeable and knows what he is doing.
Also did I say that during the treatment he took care of a minor filling at no cost. Isn’t he super sweet!!!
I would highly recommend him to all of my friends and family: D
