Milton Bastos Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

I can’t believe I took so long to write a review for this school. If your looking for a clean, fun and friendly environment this is the place to go the kids classes are fantastic and the adult class are well structured. Milton Bastos is a multiple time world champion and really works hard to break down techniques so that they’re easy to grasp. 5 stars all the way.

Milton is a world-​class instructor and is very friendly and attentive to detail. It’s been said that the instructor sets the vibe and the attitude of the gym. This academy is no exception; everyone at the place feels like family, and there are no egos running loose here. Though he has a laid back attitude, he does push you to do your best.
If you are looking for a gym that is competition-​oriented, this is a great place to be. All your training partners push you to your limit and there has never been an easy day here. The academy also has a killer lineup of competition purple belts and many other great training partners.
I’ve only trained here for 2 – 3 months, but if I ever decide to live close by in the Bay Area, this academy will probably be among my top choices.

Milton is an incredible Jiujitsu practitioner and instructor. He has a great way with both adults and children and my whole family loves his classes. He has really helped me improve my game considerably.

I can’t thank Milton enough for the training he has provided for both of my kid’s. The knowledge, technique, and patience he has is amazing! My daughter is very high maintenance (at 9 yrs. old!) and my son who is 7 and loves sports, could not be any different in their hobbies, etc BUT this is the one thing they really enjoy and have in common! It has taught them discipline, motivation, patience, and respect not only for others, but for the martial art itself. I decided I would like to try Jiujitsu with Milton– best decision I ever made in transitioning my work out to something I would NEVER of considered!!! I have since lost 20 lbs., have had two clear PET scans– this is the first! (I have stage 4 breast cancer) and a more endurance, strength, focus and belief in myself than I think I ever had. I am so thankful for Milton and his knowledge that he shares with us as his students.

This is a long overdue review! I’m going to break it down into why you should do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and why you should do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Milton.
Why you should do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu:
Besides being an awesome and fun workout (I’ve lost 30 pounds since I began nearly a year ago), Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that pushes away those who are just looking to smash others, and humbles those who stick around. From the very first day you step on the mat, you’re rolling with people better (and often smaller) than you, and learning to tap to submissions. This can be intimidating at first, but over time as you realize nobody intends to do you harm and that everyone is there to help each other get better, you’ll develop friendships unlike any outside the gym. It’s incredibly fun and addicting, and there’s nothing else like it.
Why you should do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Milton:
Some people say the best athlete doesn’t make the best instructor, and the best instructor doesn’t make the best athlete. With Milton you don’t have to compromise either.
As an athlete, he’s a 5x world champion. As an instructor, there’s no doubt he’s one of the best. He’s Google’s official BJJ instructor, and nobody can deny that Google employs top talent, from its engineers, to its chefs, to its trainers. He always has a keen eye and will spot and correct mistakes from across the mat. Beyond his ability as an instructor, he’s just an all around good guy with a great sense of humor. He fosters an environment where classes don’t feel like you’re just coming in to get that 1 – 2 hours of exercise you need for the day. For me, it’s more like I’m meeting up with a bunch of friends, having some laughs, and working together to become better at something we’re all really passionate about. Despite how relaxed that sounds, there’s some serious talent here. We all train hard and love it. Even though I’m there 6 days a week and sometimes multiple times a day, I sometimes wish there was more time available on the mat. You will too!
Sometimes people make a comparison of pricing between BJJ in general and a gym like 24 Hour Fitness. BJJ is a community and lifestyle, and I very rarely see people stick around yet make half-​assed attempts at it. It will become your passion to get better, it will be the community you’re excited everyday to get off work and be a part of, and it will be your motivation to not spend money on things like alcohol and bad food. The gains you make in character will reflect on your everyday life. It just can’t be substituted by a gym where you’re basically just paying to be a mouse on a wheel. I’ll put it this way — if BJJ prices were to universally rise $ 100, I’d simply find ways to cut $ 100 out of other aspects of my life.

This gym is great, and Milton is extremely knowledgeable and technical. His attention to detail in the instruction is very useful, and he helps refine even the smallest portions of Jiu-​Jitsu for all of his students and at any level belt. He’s always got a smile on his face, and his enthusiasm and playfulness is contagious. The overall vibe in the gym is very relaxed, with no egos, and each training session is fun and full of laughter and lots of sweat.
I was personally bored with BJJ and felt that I had hit a wall, and since meeting Milton and experiencing his style of instruction, which is highly technical and focused while being in a relaxed and chill atmosphere, it has renewed my love for the sport and lifestyle.
I highly recommend Milton’s school!

The facility is sparkling new and everybody who trains here is friendly and receptive. Milton is a current world champ, who also happens to be a great teacher. He is attentive and really seems to care for his students. Not to mention he’s an overall cool guy. I tried out the free week trial and when it was over I immediately signed up for 6months with every intention of extending when that’s over. I’m coming for that BLUE BELT SON!!!

My daughter trains MMA and Milton used to be her BJJ instructor. He is a great teacher, my daughter was just mentioning the other day that she misses Milton and wants to go to learn more from him. We will have to go to his new gym soon! Mountain View residents are lucky to have such a world class instructor in there backyard!

Milton is an amazing instructor. For the experience practitioner, Milton trains with the best of the best in the bay and is still an active competitor meaning that you will receive top instruction in modern jiu jitsu. For the beginner who has never done anything at all Milton is great at teaching the basics and makes class fun while still being informative. Check him out if you are in the Mountain View area, you won’t be sorry.

Milton is sincere about helping all of his students on a daily basis improve and he has a keen ability for tailoring his instruction to maximize his students’ potential. Milton is professional, approachable, and he has a great sense of humor which brings a sense of fun to the hard working atmosphere. Also, Milton is not only a tremendous teacher, he is an active competitor at the highest level! With Milton Bastos BJJ, the Sunnyvale /​Mountain View /​Los Altos just got a whole lot more awesome.

Milton Bastos Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is centrally located and easy to get to from anywhere in the Bay area. The place is spotless and has a warm and welcoming feeling. Training is at the highest level as Milton is not only a world champion but also a great teacher that goes methodically over the techniques and gives individual attention to each person.

Milton Bastos is not only one of the best Jiu Jitsu professors I have had the privilege to train with, but also one of the best people. He genuinely cares about his students, and his Jiu Jitsu and wrestling backgrounds make him a very well rounded instructor.

I have known Milton for several years. He is a very detail oriented teacher and a world-​class competitor, not to mention a fun person to train with. If you live in the bay area and are looking for a place to train, you should really consider checking out his school.
