Meriwest Credit Union

The manager of this location is ragingly incompetent in his hiring and staffing choices. Despite 4 teller stations, there is generally just one teller. There’s usually just a handful of customers– 4 tops. Somehow I manage to spend the entirety of my lunch break here waiting for the ONE teller who’s pecking at the keyboard like it’s an indecipherable alien control panel.
There’s one girl here who is quick, friendly, and efficient. Hire just two more like her, maybe.

I’ve been a customer at Meriwest for several years.
This branch is actually pretty nice. I like the tellers and the location. Coupled with Meriwest corporate, however, they are just like any other big bank.
Example:
When they send pretty much anything to me, it goes bulk mail. Twice they have lost an important, time sensitive document that needed to be sent first class mail. I’m sure they save 10 cents on postage by taking an extra 2 weeks to deliver anything important, and I know they make 40 bucks in fees to have those same documents resent and expedited after they lose them. But when you really need a document, and you let them know that, and they still take several weeks and charge you fees to get it to you, that just hurts.
It’s that kind of «maximize-​profits» organization. Tiny things that a credit union should do — that you or I or any reasonably responsible businessperson would definitely do — like springing for a frigging first class stamp that gets mission critical product to the customer in the promised time — or not losing things — they can’t bring themselves to spend the money on.
I’ve had a couple other fees on their gauranteed no-​fees products. That just made me sad.
I hate to give this bad review for Meriwest as an organization, but that’s how they behave. They really don’t care.
Update: It gets better (read:worse)!!
They not only lost two pieces of mail (or maybe never sent them — they don’t track anything), but when they then charged me the 40 dollar a fee to expedite the next item, they split that piece of mail into two items, and sent one of them bulk mail! How awesome is that! How much thought went into that process on their part! Same amount as I’m giving them in the future.
Needless to say, I have another bank account, now, and I’m slowly transitioning my business elsewhere. Such a relief! This is really sad for me because I love to support small, independent financial organizations. But it’s SUCH a RELIEF to finally be moving on from Meriwest.
Wish I could have left a more positive review.

Went there to open several accounts there, to move my assets from Bank of America.
Never got to discuss that. Folks were unfriendly and snapped at me because I wasn’t standing at the exact spot they wanted me to wait.

BOO! I came in three weeks ago and asked for a roll of quarters for a $ 10 bill, and received it. I came in today, asked for change for a $ 20 (a roll of quarters + 10 1’s) and was asked my account number «Oh, I’m not a customer, I just want (quarters + small bills.» The lady looks at me as if I have just dropped in from Mars and says «sorry, I can’t do that.» Gee whiz. You would think a BANK, with access to millions in people’s money, could at the least afford themselves to accommodate community members who’d just want a typical transaction of change. Nope. Well hopefully this _​_​_​_​_​will soon get to the bottom of things and root out who went against company policy and gave a noncustomer change for a $ 10! Ha ha, ha, ha. You have earned this review, Meriwest, go cry.

Went here based on all the glowing reviews from other members here. I wanted to open a business account. They completely bungled every aspect of it. At one point, they gave me a cashier’s check which they «forgot to sign». At another point, they asked for a document which I promptly sent across. They claimed they never got the document and without informing me, put a hold on my account. I had to go to the bank 7 times within a period of a couple of weeks, most of the time because they were bungling up things. Badly set up, amateurish and dont seem to have a clue. I really wanted to open my business account with a credit union because my bank (HSBC) is like devil incarnate. Where HSBC shines in evil, meriwest makes up on incompetence.

I’m not a member of Meriwest, but do my banking with financial institutions that use the CO-​OP Network for their ATMs. Very convenient to have Meriwest’s CO-​OP Network ATM close to where I live and work.

I’ve been impressed with Meriwest Credit Union since I opened an account there last year. I have a checking account and an auto loan with them. I got my car loan last August, and have been in only a couple times since then for deposits and withdrawals (I prefer teller transactions vs. the ATM). Today I went in to open another account, and Paul, the supervisor with whom I opened my car loan and hadn’t seen since last year, recognized me right away. He helped me through the process of opening a new account quickly, and was very gracious and helpful.
