Lenscrafters

I got my prescription from my Optometrist, Dr. Rheam at MV Optometry, so I don’t have an opinion on Lenscrafter’s eye exams. I haven’t had insurance for about 15 years so I try not to buy new glasses very often. This year I definitely need new frames and lenses, so I thought I’d try Lenscrafters to save money. Turns out my current glasses are made of a high-​end material to be thinner and lighter, and utilize a progressive design that is not available in a Lenscrafters lens, so they wanted over $ 1000 for new lenses (incl a 20% discount). I went back to MV Optometry and the lenses were $ 420. The prices for the frames were comparable in both places. Needless to say, I got my new glasses at MV Optometry. The young woman who helped me at Lenscrafters was very nice and she seemed to know ahead of time that the lenses would be very expensive there because she said she would find out the price of the lenses before we looked at frames. So Lenscrafters might be a good choice if your vision is not very bad or complicated, but I’d get a quote from MV Optometry first.

I’ve been going to Lenscrafters as long as I’ve been wearing glasses, and I’ve always had positive experiences. I’ve been happy with the jobs they have done and the product that I’ve gotten. Until now.
The customer service at this location is piss-​poor at best.
My first appointment was approximately six months ago, where I was a walk-​in customer (patient?) around 4pm and asked if I still had time to get new glasses and contacts, to which I was told yes. After the exam, I was told that I would have to pick up my glasses the next day, and they would call me when they were ready. I was already pretty annoyed, because I figured that I would be walking out with new glasses that evening, based on the conversation that I had had with whomever earlier. I live in Oakland and had only stopped in because I had time to kill in the area, so coming back the next day was significantly inconvenient.
The next day no one called, and when I contacted them the person I was talking to seemed confused and it took a while for them to find out if they were ready. On top of this, I was told that my specific contact prescription was not available in store, that they would have to be ordered, and when they arrived I would be contacted. I left with a sample of a slightly off contact prescription sample, and my glasses. The woman who checked me out that day was plenty pleasant. I was never contacted (again) and, being that I don’t wear contacts too often, I felt fine putting it off.
Anyway, that was six months ago.
Today (3÷23÷16) I was in town again and remembered that I may have contacts waiting for me, so i decided to stop by.
Now… I don’t really want to be this person, but at this point I feel compelled to mention that I am a heavily tattooed young woman, and this is my first time feeling discriminated against for being so.
I explained my situation the best I could to the woman behind the counter, who was extremely cold and, I felt, rude. She and the doctor who were working honestly made me feel like I was trying to pull one over on them or something. I explained that I was never contacted to come pick up my contacts, and they said that it was because my prescription was never finalized because I didn’t come back in to get them checked. I was never offered a follow up appointment, nor told that I would have to come back for anything. I was told that I would have to get another eye exam because it had been over six months, to which I told them that I didn’t think was fair because it wasn’t like I had missed an appointment, there was clearly miscommunication and I was never reached. The doctor, to her credit, said she would waive the fee if my prescription had changed. She eventually gave me a sample of contacts to try on and checked them on me to see if they were okay for me to get a prescription filled, which they were. However the whole time, I felt like she was giving me a lot of attitude and over explaining like she thought I was an idiot. Because I don’t live in a great area, I asked if I could get my contacts shipped to a different LensCrafters, to which she pretty much insisted that I get them sent to a friends house who lives in a better neighborhood. Guess what dude? All my friends live in bad neighborhoods or in places where a package is likely to get stolen. We agreed to get it sent to my work, okay fine. Whatever.
While I waited for my contacts to settle enough to be checked, I witnessed the woman who was rude to me be much, much nicer to other customers. I specifically feel discriminated against by her… not so much the doctor, who I feel is probably just pretty rude in general.
The man that checked me out at the end of this where I paid for my contacts was pleasant, however when I told him that I was pretty dissatisfied with my overall experience he tried to say that it was hard for them to reach out to customers because they see so many of them, which I took as I was supposed to make contact because they were too busy. Earlier I had overheard someone looking on my file to see if there were notes about anyone calling, to which there were none. I was given a very customer-​servicey apology where no responsibility was taken, I paid $ 250, and I was on my way.
I will never ever come back to this location. Ever.
It was awful from the get-​go, and only got worse.

Made an online appointment last week for an appointment today. Came in 20 minutes early, filled out paperwork, and was able to start my eye exam within 5 minutes. Service was quick, pleasant, and easy-​going. After the exam, I got to browsing for frames and found some fairly quickly. I was told they would have my glasses back to me within 90 minutes, and when I came back, they had them ready to go.
Even though Lencrafters is out-​of-​network for me, I knew I could rely on their quick turn around time. Definitely worth it since I need a new pair before heading out of town.

Made an appt — great customer service, easy parking! I hadn’t had an eye exam for roughly 2 years, so I was waaaayyyy overdue! No worries, they really took great care of me and made my experience very seamless!

Waited a while, but it was my day off so whatever. No biggie. Great customer service and my exam was done dilated pupils and all within 1 ½ hours

This is the second time I went here and both times they gave me the wrong perscription. I think they are not professional and have people that do not know what they are doing.
They told me they could not treat my eyes with any lenses that I needed the cataract operation and that was my only way out. Walked out and went to another place in Mountain View and within minutes checked my eyes and now I have glasses that are the best. Do not go to Lenscrafters. I suffered enough.

THE FAST FOOD OF OPTOMETRY: I used to be a very loyal Lenscrafters’ customer for over two decades. Sadly, as many of the big corporate services, Lenscrafters took a huge dive. In my opinion, it is now the fast food of optometry: cheap (well, relatively: with all their discounts), fast (nobody beats their leadtime), but really-​really bad — just like fast food. While they carry quite an impressive selection of frames, and their staff is always very polite and nice, the quality of their work as well as the knowledge of their staff is lacking, to put it mildly. I had a completely unusable, messed up pair of reading glasses made at the Valley Fair location, had them re-​made to the exact same prescription and specifications by a small, independent optometry office in Mountain View, and the difference was night and day. The Lenscrafter version was blurry and distorted, while the other version is perfect. Then I gave Lenscrafters another chance at the new Mountain View location. Found a fabulous frame for my distance glasses, the staff was very nice and friendly, but the lenses were useless: blurry and distorted. I actually have another pair of the same distance glasses with the exact same prescription and specifications made by the above independent company, so I could compare them. Again: night and day. I returned the lenses to Lenscrafters, kept the frame, yet again, and I am having them made at this other place now. It certainly takes more time and it definitely costs more money, but I will be able to SEE properly. Isn’t that the whole point of having glasses? I will never go to Lenscrafters again, except maybe to buy frames.

This new store with spacious ample parking is fantastic brightly lit spacious immaculate modern interior with a fabulous array of styles, brands to try on and experience. Rose provided us with superior customer service and more, with her extremely knowledgeable professional highly accomodating courteous & great friendly personality. making sure we were satisfied & happy with our new eye glass adjustments before leaving the store.

Very nice and clean location. Just opened and very bright due to all glass front. Sales people not pushy and were very helpful. Thanh helped me choose two glasses using his ipad and they got done same day in time for my holiday travel. Definitely bring my family back. Close to my work in Mountain View too.

This place just opened 2 weeks ago — it’s a relatively large store, with ample parking attached. Much larger than the Menlo Park location. Completely new, brightly lit and modern interior.
Service was very friendly — the staff there helped me find out how much my lenses would cost with my insurance via their iPad (ooh lenscrafters being fancy, yes)
The only downside I saw, was that the selection of frames wasn’t quite to my liking. They do have a plentiful selection, but maybe now’s just not the time of year for my kinda frames — who knows.

I didn’t buy glasses but I was there when my friend bought his.
The staff was fast and knowledgeable and the doctor’s office was super high tech! Everyone was very welcoming. Also, they had an amazing selection of frames compared to most lenscrafters I’ve seen. The associate told us that they’ve only been open for about 2 weeks so everything was pretty new. The whole building had a great modern vibe to it.
The pricing isn’t Costco pricing but you get what you pay for! My friend got his glasses the same day and we didn’t even have to buy a case or cloth.
Sucks that the first review already started them on the wrong foot. Maybe they will change their hours to accommodate more people after. However, I know the feeling that if someone walked in AFTER hours, I’d have to turn them away to. The staff seemed pretty kind, I’m sure they would’ve helped if the person came in earlier. We often forget to write whenever we have a great experience but are quick to write something bad.
Overall, great place. Don’t let their rating bug you. Give it a chance and check them out!

Sorry for the first review LensCrafters but I was so excited when I heard that they have opened near by now I’m disappointed and would rather take and refer my business else where. I had an appointment at the one in the mall at 7, I knew what frames I wanted and even had my prescription ready but then my girlfriend reminded me there was one 2 minutes away from my house. I get off at 6 and couldn’t not find there closing times anywhere. I been calling since 5:50 and no one had answer the phones so I was still worried they might not be open but my girlfriend told me she saw people in there and cars parked so I left work early at 5:55, arrived at the new LensCrafters at 6:10 there were still two people in there I ask politely if I can just by the frames real quick I knew what I wanted and had my money ready when I asked the First Lady she was pretty nice but said no were closed even the she was still helping someone and the doors were not even locked, she preceded to say let me ask the supervisor and then everyone looked at him like the didn’t mind and I told him all I needed was to buy frames I could pick them up tomorrow he just keep saying «uhhh „“ uhhh» like not even a answer just looking at me while I’m there waiting looking at him two minutes later tell me no sorry and they proceed to tell me there schedule. Now not to be rude but I have been and sales and customer service my whole life and even I have been a victim of that one last customer who comes in when we close but I have never turned away a sale even when there were customers still in the store. I knew what I wanted and I was gonna be in and out in less then 5 minutes but instead the couldn’t make up there mind and just told me no. That’s was pretty messed up even since they barely opened. Sorry LensCrafters but that experience kind of rubbed me the wrong way plus two stars for the nice and clean new store. Next time save the both of us trouble and least answer the phones it is a business.
