As usual, before heading out of the studio I look left. I look right. I made sure my bodyguard was well positioned in front of the throngs of fans lined up as I made my sprint from the door to the car. Peering out of my smoke tinted car window, I smiled and waved as I drove off. I survived another wild day filming, but even wilder evening dodging the hoards of paparazzi, fans, and well wishers. Uhhh…actually, the only reality of this whole thing is me smiling, driving, and waving… to my co-workers. But an afternoon at KMVT can bring out the Tom Cruise in all of us. This public funded TV station is neatly tucked away in an office park that has seen better days, and that’s a plus for the studio. I’ve been to a few studios in my life, and what made my experience here good was the quality of the staff. Although I was only in for about four hours, they made me feel comfortable with the equipment, the staging, the filming, etc. Now I know some of the tricks on how TV comes to life and some of the things that go into the making of a short story film. If you’re an amateur or aspiring video artist, they do offer classes for a very minimal cost. Thanks to the staff of KMVT for making my experience a positive one. It won’t make me watch more public TV, but I did find a new appreciation for the production. Oh…don’t look for me anytime soon on the big screen, little screen or any screen.
