First, I want to say that I really like Dr. Loftus. She has a warm, bubbly personality. For routine pediatric wellness checkups and run of the mill ear infections, rashes and the common potpourri of pediatric illness, this doctor has done well. However, I have had two instances of NOT routine pediatric illness(while with Kaiser) and Dr. Loftus has literally not been there. No support, no phone calls with lab results, no evidence that she is managing my children’s medical care when it is most needed. One major, acute and scary illness occurred over the Christmas/Holiday season. This particular acute episode was accompanied by symptoms that were changing daily… and not in a comforting direction. My child saw a different doctor each day. We were in an office, re-explaining symptoms to a new face every day. No phone call from her primary care physician, no one taking charge and overseeing her care. Finally, an astute pediatrician saw that my child was getting into serious medical difficulty with the threat of permanent organ damage and took charge. This illness went on for several months. Did Dr. Loftus ever call? Did she ever seem to be engaged? I had to call her in regards to lab tests. We switched pediatricians to the caring and proactive doctor who took excellent care of my child. My child has fully recovered. This is just one example. If your children never have an acute illness or injury, then the care you receive from Dr. Loftus will be just fine. If however, you want a pediatrician who will advocate for you when the going gets murky and will take charge when the situation calls for a leader, this this not the physician you are looking for.
