Joseph M Cassara, DDS

Dr. Cassara has been our family dentist for the past 7 years. He is very friendly and does a great job. I’ve recommended him to several friends and family members and they all really like him.
Olga is our hygienist and she is great!

Finding Dr Cassara has been my best act of self love since moving to the Bay Area in 2007, second only to discovering the Human Awareness Institute’s workshop series on love, intimacy and sexuality. He is kind, patient, has a stellar feel for patient care and people (everybody on staff is just lovely), and the times I have needed something on fairly short notice, that has worked out beautifully.

This office is as good as it gets… Julia, Olga, and Joe are all class acts and are extremely dedicated to making every patient’s experience as comfortable as possible… I appreciate their ability to handle communications and scheduling through email. We chose them because my loving wife is very particular about who touches her mouth, Joe and team is the best, hands down, in the area…

Meh, my second visit made me feel uncomfortable with the way the billing was handled, so I will not be returning. I had recommended my husband to try them after my first visit, but upon my second visit and seeing all the confusion i had to go through, he didn’t think it was worth trying this dentist’s office.
First of all, making an appointment was hard. Their «Contact us» online form was useless, ’cause no one responded when I filled it out at the beginning. So I called a couple of times, got the answering machine, and left a voicemail. Sheila, the front desk assistant, tends to respond to voicemail in the afternoon. (I have never been successful in getting someone to answer the phone in the morning). She manages appointments as well as the insurance questions/​billing. Both times I entered the dental office for my appointments, there was no one sitting at the front desk, so I waited for a while hoping they start the appointment on time (which they do, the dental hygenist herself will come out from the back to look for their patients).
The dentist work itself was great; the office atmosphere was also very clean and nice. Olga is a great dental hygenist and a very sweet woman, and she is very gentle and patient throughout the process. I also like how thoughtful they set up the dental rooms, with TVs on the ceiling and wall to distract you from the actual dental work– that part was fun.
Dr. Cassara was also very nice; he provided me with some recommendations, and he and Olga both told me that i would need to check with the front desk to see how much it costs depending on my insurance. I was advised to do a deep cleaning instead of the routine cleaning, and because I have never done a deep cleaning before, I am ok proceeding with it. Dr. Cassara also mentioned that the exposed enamel on one of my tooth is an easy fix with varnish or something… but it was not under my impression that it would be done during my 2^nd visit. I thought I would first be told how much it costs and then i can decide.
Anyway, for the first dentist visit, I did half of the deep cleaning. everything went well. At time of payment, I was told how much my dental insurance covers and how much i should pay. I was also told that at my next visit, I will only need to pay the remaining balance $ 150.
At my second visit, i got my second half of the mouth deep-​cleaned. I thought I was done after that, but then they said the dentist will take a quick look and also get my enamel fixed. I thought: huh, i didn’t know this is included in the second visit. The work itself, as usual, was done very well and painlessly.
At time of payment, Sheila did some calculations on the computer that I couldn’t see, and said I owe ~$ 450. I told her she said it was only $ 150 last time, so the amount seems high to me. In addition, i did not know that I was getting the enamel fixed this time, so I don’t even know how much it costs me out-​of-​pocket or how much my insurance could cover (turns out my insurance maxed out already, so it would be entirely out of pocket). After a few calculations, with each calculation being different, i was told to pay a certain amount. Afterwards, she said oh no, it really should have been the $ 400+ amount, and that they will bill me later on. I said that’s fine, I would rather the office bills me later than paying extra now and trying to get a refund later.
Sheila also told me that for my future appointments – which the dentist recommended once every 3 months– that i should do some other kind of perio cleaning, before I can go back to routine cleaning, so again it will be more expensive than the routine cleaning (which I already maxed out from my insurance). The way she explained it to me, it sounded like this is the *only* way to go as suggested by the dentist. But… if I am paying everything out of pocket now, don’t I get a choice whether to go for a more expensive cleaning rather than a regular cleaning?
She told me to make another appointment first, because their availability fills up fast. No doubt about that, but after all the confusion with how much I am supposed to pay, and the disregard of the patients’ out of pocket expenses and to get hit with a bill that is not fully informed beforehand, I won’t be going back.
In the end, when delta dental got the calculations all figured out, I was billed about $ 250, not the $ 400+ that was mentioned. I’m so glad I didn’t pay extra up front, or else getting someone on the phone to answer my questions would be impossible.

Simply the best service I have ever experienced. The staff is great and welcoming. Doctor Cassara does a great job and I would totally recommend this office to anyone.

Absolutely the best dental practice I have encountered. Dr. Joe and his staff take he time to build a detailed dental treatment plan for you and take the time to explain it.
The facility is outstanding. Recently built, all the technology, tv’s on the ceiling!!! Great place.

I have been coming here for three years, for a total of 7 or so visits, and this will be my first review. The entire office takes on Dr Cassara’s personality of happy, go-​lucky, and professional. Their dental hygienists are fantastic as well, and don’t forget their beautiful and sweet front desk ladies who are the first thing you see. The location is remodeled with a myriad of amenities to include tv’s while you get your teeth cleaned. I really cant say enough good things about this place. They also send you email reminders for your visits and are very proactive. I will definitely miss this place the next time I have a Navy dentist working on my teeth. Bön Viage!!!

I have been seeing Dr. Cassara around 13 years now and would be devastated if I ever had to change dentists. The staff are all wonderful and always happy to see you. I remember a time long, long ago where I dreaded getting my teeth cleaned, but not anymore. Thanks to Dr. Joe and his staff my teeth continue to be healthy and cavity free! I would recommend them to anyone!

I’ve been going to Dr. Joe since he first opened and he is the most caring and gentle dentist I’ve ever had. He’s always concerned that I’m confortable and well informed about the treatments. His staff of front office, dental assistants and hygenists are cheerful and professional. New offices are immaculate and comfortably furnished. New flat panel TVs mounted on the ceiling so I can watch during treatments are pretty cool, too.

Fabulous! Everyone was so patient and kind. Not a fan of going to the dentist (is anyone???), but everyone I came in contact with was just so friendly and took the time to put me at ease.

Dr Joe is the best dentist around. Due to bad childhood experiences I was severely afraid of the Dentist. Dr Joe solved that problem by taking great care of me. He knows ways to make patients calm and not to worry. During procedures he is always asking about pain and makes sure your comfortable. My wife and I love Dr Joe. The entire staff is great. I personally have my teeth cleaned by Julia and my wife has Olga. We love them both. With the TV’s on the ceiling time flies while getting your teeth cleaned. The entire staff always cares about how we are. I only reccomend Dr Joe and his staff

I have been going to this office for a little over a year now and I just LOVE it. I finally even got my husband who is deathly afraid of the dentist to go and get some much needed work done to his teeth. We are all so happy with the work we have had and the service we get in the office.

The 5 stars is for Olga. She’s fantastic. If you do decide to come here, ask for Olga. Just saying. =)

I was looking for a dentist and went here. The lady who cleaned my teeth did a very good job. Dr Cassara evaluated my broken filling and suggested overlays on two teeth. Dr Cassara is disarming and friendly.
This is a well run and professional operation and I was comfortable with all the people I dealt with.
I decided not to continue with them. I don’t have dental insurance and as such I had to look at the cost. The cost of overlays is much greater than the cost of getting a filling.

I have been a patient of Dr Cassara for more than 15 years and he is the best dentist ever! My son was 10 when we had to change dentists due to change of insurance and so I interviewed several and he was the most personable, most knowledgable, and child friendly. My sons gums are so hard and had trouble loosing baby teeth Dr. Joe had to pull most all of the baby teeth out as the secondary started to come in. But he was so gentle, explained everything to him and it wasn’t an issue at all. My son fortunately wasn’t scared and all went smoothly. I don’t have many dental issues, but have had to have two crowns and was SO scared. It was a breeze (okay well for a crown LOL) thanks to Dr Joe and his assistants — thank you!
Dr Joe listens to his patients and pays attention to his assistants and they are all great at what they do, their bedside maners are the best and it’s a plesant office environment.
So yes, I highly recommend him to all and especially families with children!

service. His staff is friendly, his office has state of the art modern equipment and there are even TV’s in every room!

I hate going to the dentist. I HATE HATE HATE going to the dentist. But I love going to Dr. Joe. He’s very kind and gentle. He explains everything in great detail. I also love Tammy who works at the front desk (and does x-​rays! And helps you figure out insurance bullshit!). The dental hygienist does a great cleaning, no tugging on teeth, no painful or bleeding gums, and my teeth sparkle afterward. By far the best cleaning I’ve ever had.
If you hate the dentist you must go to Dr. Joe. He will change your entire dental philosophy.

Best Dentist I’ve had.

I’ve been going to Dr. Cassara since I moved to the bay area in 2001. I originally went because he was recommended by my co-​workers and he was close to my office. I went back because he was cool — meaning he cared about answering my questions, was friendly and didn’t rush through talking to me, and his staff were friendly and professional.
I’ve never understood why anyone disliked the dentist because I love having my teeth cleaned and coming away with a bright white smile! I’ve been lucky mainly due to heredity and haven’t had dental issues, only having one filling when I was 11. I just had to have that filling replaced because it was cracked and Dr. Cassara was concerned about there being potentially a problem with the filling. I was so freaked out about getting a shot that Dr. Cassara worked out a different solution. No shot, no pain, and I have even more respect for Dr. Cassara because he was so thoughtful and took his time to make me comfortable.
I have to give a special shout out for Tammy! The whole staff is great, but Tammy really goes out her way to make everything run smoothly. I’m not going anywhere else as long as I live here!

I’ve been going to Dr. Cassara for just about a year now. I’ve been both for a normal cleaning and for more advanced work (I had two crowns done). Every time I’ve gone it’s been a pleasant experience.
The staff at the office is great and the place is spacious and comfortable. They always ask me if I’d like music or television to listen to while any procedure is done. Dr. Cassara is very friendly and professional. He is very meticulous about getting everything «just right». The location is also great, right off of El Camino in Mountain View.
I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a new dentist.
