Ed’s Tow & Cradle

Showed up 30 minutes early. I told him that the battery was good, I tried to jump it and that I thought it was the starter solenoid. He asked to take a look anyway. I gave him the keys.
Within 30 seconds he figured out my shift-​lock mechanism thought my car was in reverse rather than park. He shifted it to neutral and it started right up. We tried to replicate the issue but could not. Probably a fluke. He said if it becomes repeatable to take it to the dealer and when if it does to just put it in neutral to drive.
In less than 5 minutes he figured it out, saved me a tow and gave me the tools needed to overcome the issue if it came up again. A++

Rude driver, too much attitude for no reason. Quoted wrong time and got to the car before I could then took off telling me he doesn’t get paid for waiting around and we are talking about a 5 minute window here…

This past weekend I called to get an estimate and time on a tow last minute and Tim answered my call and was able to meet with me right away. He was able to help me pull my car out from a downstairs garage safely and got it to the bodyshop quickly. This car issue has been a nightmare but witg Tim’s quick and efficent service, it made the whole experience better. Great customer service and recommendation to others from now on!

Got a tow from Mel this evening. He is so so kind and it’s really just what you need when your car breaks down! We thought it might be the engine, but he reassured us that it probably wasn’t as bad (we will find out tomorrow!) He was kind enough to check out the hood first and also recommended a mechanic. The recommended mechanic (Peninsula Auto Shop) seems to know there stuff so I am trusting them 100% – I’ll write them a review once our car is fixed :) Thanks Mel!

My first car was a 1971 F-​250… so I know a thing or two about being towed.
This guy showed up 10 minutes later than the 45 minute ETA. He was rude and assumed I had crossed the wires while attempting to jumpstart my Honda causing it to blow out. When I told him I knew how to jump a car he proceeded to jump it, slowly explaining every step of the way. He was quite certain he’d get the car running after jumping it. Unfortunately, it wasn’t just my feeble woman’s brain that couldn’t get the hang of the jump start and we had to tow. We pushed the car to a spot that was easier for him to get to and he hooked it up.
I put my destination in my phone and google said 5.6 miles away. Which was great because my insurance covered the first 5 miles. I got in my friends car and told him I’d meet him there. Once we got there he told me the distance was 2.5 miles over. I showed him the route I had taken and how it was only 5.6 miles away. Apparently, he had chosen the route with the second longest travel time and longest travel distance. Which is an outright scam.
He became very angry and defensive when I said something about the route he chose. and seemed was starting to yell at me and got very close to me as if to try and make me feel threatened. I, however, am 5’8. And he was maybe… 5’1. As all this was happening my boyfriend decided to step in. Maybe it was his rationale or maybe it was the extra foot he had on this guy, but the tow driver quickly lowered his voice. He lowered my car and left it going the wrong way and with one tire parked over a plant on a curb. Before he left he made sure to say «I hope I never see you guys again.»
.he’s melodramatic to boot.
So far I haven’t paid anything. If they decided to bill me for those 2 miles I will contact my insurance and cause absolute HELL to ensure this company is no longer recommended.
All in all he was rude, condescending, and greedy.

John from Ed’s Tow & Cradle helped me today get my car from home to the dealer. He is clearly very very good at his job and competently got my car up to the deck of the tow truck. I drove in to the dealer beside him in the truck cab and his driving was as good as everything else I saw. All in all a five star experience. I have full faith and trust that these guys are all competent professionals.

John is the best ever. I called my insurance provider for tow service and literally after finishing my phone call. John appeared in my area like its a magic trick.
John is very knowledgeable, he knew my situation and he gave me some advice for the future. If ever I need a service again, I wouldn’t hesitate to hire them again.

The driver Tim seemed great, arrived promptly, friendly, knowledgeable, recommended a better place to tow, said he’d take it to their shop overnight then to the other place in the morning when it opened. Next afternoon, I get a call from the original shop saying «we have your bike, what gives?» I had no notification they changed the tow back to there, and when I called, the guy on the phone was unhelpful and not that nice about it. Seems like their mistake not to communicate internally, or else not to call me to say the destination was changed or that I would have to arrange the change with my insurance. Anyway ended up having to pay for a second tow out of pocket for $ 145, but needless to say I didn’t use Ed’s for that…

These guys have come rescued me and my motorcycle TWICE out of their area on a weekend. Best.service.ever.

If your condo complex is using them for a towing service, recommend you go find a different one.
We had a car obnoxiously parked in a fire lane. The fire lane is clearly marked in red and there is also a sign and writing on the ground so that anyone who can read can tell it’s illegally parked, but these guys refused to come out and do anything about it. They would rather the fire truck be blocked and our homes burn down I guess.
They also apparently don’t know that not everyone in a multi-​unit dwelling lives in an apartment. A condo complex does not have a manager.
But then they hang up so fast they’ll never give you the time to explain that. So much for customer service.
My advice: A-​VOID.

Mel was awesome! I locked my keys in my car again, this time way past midnight (luckily in a safe area). Called my roadside assistance, who sent Ed’s towing over. I was tired, concerned that my phone’s battery was running out, and cranky that I couldn’t figure out the address of my location. I tried not to let it show when I talked to Mel over the phone, but I’m sure it showed. Nonetheless, he was super patient and upbeat. He arrived in his tow truck about fifteen minutes earlier than the initial ETA, and got my door unlocked immediately. Thanks so much again!

My car battery died and I needed a jumpstart. I went through my insurance for emergency roadside assistance and this was the company that came out. Assistance arrived within what felt like 15 minutes and the person who helped me was very friendly and informative about which places were open to get a replacement battery and installation on a Sunday. Glad I know who to now call for help in my hometown!

I was only a mile away and just needed a jump start. Lady answered the phone and then said she couldn’t get anyone there till 8:30am (6hours) Why even answer the phone? Go home lady. Or better yet, come jump start my car.

I came out of my office to head to lunch and noticed I had a flat tire. I remembered that the last time this happened my emergency roadside assistance though my insurance company, set me up with Ed’s Towing. After waiting on hold with the roadside assistance people for twenty minutes, I decided to call Ed’s directly. The man who answered the phone (Ed I believe) was incredibly friendly and said it would be no problem to come out to change my tire, and that he would deal with billing my insurance company! He arrived at my office 35 minutes later as promised, and had my tire changed within 10 minutes.
I highly recommend Ed’s towing and will definitely be calling them the next time I have a roadside emergency.

The service was reliable, and Tim, the driver, was very pleasant. I would definitely recommend!

I called my roadside assistance. They sent Ed’s towing again. The drive said his name was Mike but I didn’t think it was his real name. This guy was completely rude. Made stupid comments about things that he had no clue about. He had the nerve to insult my car for breaking down.
This was there last chance. Stay away from these people.

HUGE thanks to John of Ed’s Tow and Cradle today. I managed to lock my keys in my car on a day when I desperately needed to drive the car in an hour. AND I’m working for a VC as a receptionist, and was unable to be at my car when the driver arrived. I called them beforehand, said where my car was parked, gave an exact description of my car (its extremely easy to spot, as my car is old with VERY distinct bumper stickers). Sometimes you have to wait an hour or two for a tow truck, but not this time. John went right to my car, saw the keys, unlocked it, and brought the keys right to the front door of my workplace. Totally professional, fast. John was clean cut and wasn’t the picture of greasy grunge you imagine a tow truck driver will look like. He just handed me the keys, I signed a paper, that was it. I was sooooo grateful. It was like I never even locked my keys in my car to begin with. I’m grateful to USAA also — best car insurance in the world (free roadside assistance!)
The last time I called USAA for a jump start, they sent some company that took 2 hours to arrive. Although that was highly unusual (USAA is usually awesome and I am sure it wasn’t their fault, it was the tow company), it made me appreciate the great, speedy service from Ed’s Tow and Cradle even more.

OnStar hooked me up with Ed’s, and I am lucky they did. I have not had any car trouble in years, and frankly had no idea what to do. It’s a daunting scenario to find yourself 20 miles from home with a car that won’t start, and no idea why not.
I had two different drivers from Ed’s.
Day one, OnStar had them send a truck to charge the battery first. The guy was young, and I regret not getting his name because he was very helpful. I asked for a card, and didn’t realize until later that there was no name, it was just for Ed’s in general. He was only sent to help with a battery, but spent a long time trying to help me figure out what was wrong after the jump didn’t work.
Day two, OnStar sent them back to tow my car. The driver was different, but also a young guy. His shirt said, Joe. Joe was also very helpful, and tried several theories to get me up and running without having to tow. He ended up towing me to a shop, but I appreciated the effort.
At the end of the day, with this type of service, competence is the most important thing, but it is nice to have competence with a good roadside manner, which is what my double experience was with Ed’s.

Whoops, I got a flat today! (Stupid bumpy metal curb on Page Mill)
Luckily, Toyota provides roadside assistance and immediately sent someone to change my flat for the spare. The guy (I never got his name) who helped me was probably the younger man that other Unilocaler’s have mentioned. He was extremely friendly and professional. He could tell that I was pretty distressed, but he kept the conversation lighthearted and told me that it wasn’t a huge deal. He gave me the straight story that my tire wouldn’t be easily repaired so I would need to get a new tire, then explained that the place where I had bumped the curb has been a pretty common site where other cars had popped tires in the same manner.
All in all, it took maybe 10 minutes to change to the spare, and I actually felt a lot better after the whole thing because of the driver’s level of professionalism. I highly recommend Ed’s Tow & Cradle if you need a tire changed or a tow.
