I’m not sure what the big deal was? Mediocre ice cream, basically tasted like off brand/grocery store stuff. I sure hope this isn’t the best skagit has to offer. My kid couldn’t get the flavor we went there for because it has red food dye in it. I was expecting a wholesome ice cream joint, but I guess I’m just spoiled in Whatcom county with Mallard and even Edeleen Dairy in Lynden. So, will I be back? No. Not worth it. If you don’t care about quality, I guess it’s fine? The service was good and there was a birthday party going on, so I guess some people like it. Definitely not for me.

This place is great! It’s in an area of mostly newer businesses, but retains that small, mom and pop feel. The décor is bright and funky and really evokes the feeling of an old time soda shop. As you would expect, the ice cream is fantastic. Their banana splits are incredibly good and very authentic. Strawberry, chocolate, and pineapple toppings covering real, thick ice cream. No soft serve here! What you might not expect is that the food is also quite good. Their burgers are big and thick and look like a menu picture. I suggest having onion rings as your side dish, as they’re better than most. The prices are very reasonable and everyone we interacted with was friendly and gave good customer service. The thing that really stands out is that this place is CLEAN. Cleaner than some high-end restaurants I’ve eaten at. Even the restrooms are sparkling and look new. This business really pays attention to the details and gets them all right. Highly recommended.

I have taught in Mount Vernon for 9 years and I have never been to Big Scoop. I was worried that it might become addictive. I wasn´t wrong. I needed a peanut butter fudge shake the other night. Needed. How many places will cater to this type of request? Not the big box restaurants — No peanut butter. I stopped in late(9pm) on a Saturday and it was fairly busy. My shake was perfect. There could be more staff working the counter, but since there is table service as well, that cut down on the available help. Many flavors! Many options. Local businesses must be supported.

Always great food and ice cream … people are more than nice … we make this a regular stop. If you want a treat and you are in the Skagit Valley, this is the place to go

So happy this place is still around! The seating and paint was recently redone. Everything was clean. The Hawaiian burger was great. The kids burgers and fries were pretty bad though. The giant sundaes are fun, but the ice cream melts really fast. I would just order cones instead. There are plenty of flavors to choose from.

One of our family’s favorite places! Love it here! My four year old will not let me drive past without stopping!

First let me say… ALL businesses should take advantage of offering coupons. I would probably never have stopped in here w/o one. I treated my friend to a sundae & we both were pleased, not only with the cleanliness, bright & cheery atmosphere & the helpful waitress, but our choices. Upon looking @ the flavors of ice cream I mentioned that they look like the same ones @ the Snow Goose on the way to La Connor… and they are! It was a hard decision to pick the ice cream & appropriate toppings for my 2 scoop banana split as there are so many! Now it’s hard not to think of coming back when I’m in Mt Vernon for a treat! Can’t comment on the menu… in fact, I wasn’t aware they they have a full food menu… but the ice cream is enough!

Seems me my sister’s and my mom only get that way every few years but when we do we always stop here for yes the huge 8 scoops of ice cream with strawberry, pineapple, hot fudge mini marshmallows and nuts. Oh baby!!! And yes it is as delicious as it sounds. The owner is so nice and stops at each table to make sure you are enjoying each and every scrumptious bite. Will i go back, what do you think

Cascade glacier ice cream galore!!! They have various sundaes to choose from with hot fudge, nuts, cream and such. I was taken away by the over 20 types of ice cream there. The ones that stood out to me was the chocolate hazelnut toffee and the huckleberry ice cream as well as the marionberry sorbet. I chose to get an ice cream shake with the huckleberry ice cream and it was smooth, creamy and had frozen chunks of huckleberry goodness in every slurp. My regular shake cost less than $ 5. What’s also cool is that it’s away from the tulip traffic as well, with lots of seating in a kind of 1950s style ice cream parlor. Love it!!!

This place was super crowded/busy on a sunny Sunday afternoon especially during tulip season. They have so many flavors that it’s a bit overwhelming, but I chose the caramel caribou. It was too sweet because of the caramel chocolate chunks, but the waffle cone was great! They also serve diner food which is interesting. The environment feels very old-school, diner-esque which is cute.

If you are around in mt. Vernon(mostly for tulips) this is a place to stop by. We had been to the farmhouse restaurant for lunch and we’re full. But stopped by at this place after reading all the great reviews. We ordered 2 sundaes. Go for mix and match on flavors instead of the prescribed vanilla base. We choose 6 flavors(3 each) and they topped it with a heaven full of nuts and cream. It was almost a sin to eat all of that goodness. We couldn’t finish all of it but it was all worth the trip to this place.

Wow this place is popular, it can really get packed out. There were no names on the ice creams when I was there so you had to ask, but things were so busy I gave up. There are a lot of things on the dessert menu but they mostly look like slightly different versions of the same thing. The ice cream also seemed over priced. The burgers looked good however, I might try them if I’m here again. The place is clean and looks newly redone.

This place is a slice of Great American Kitsch, and the ice cream is good to boot. The staff also seem to appreciate the excitement and magic of an old fashioned ice cream parlor and are generous with the cherries, sprinkles, and whipped cream. Each time we go to Mt. Vernon this place is a required stop, sometimes even before we have dinner. WTH, life is short.

Cute place! There was a lot of ice cream flavors to choose from. The menu on the wall show case the different sundaes. The servers were friendly. The only complaint was the waffle cones. Maybe business was slow during December, because the waffle cone was stale and hard as a rock.

Love the look and feel of this over-the-top ice cream sundae place. You always want to come back and dominate a new item on the menu. The place also has regular diner food if somebody in the party can’t eat ice cream. I had fish and chips on the last visit. Someday I’m bringing my brothers to dominate the $ 40 monster sundae.

With a name like this, it sure lives up to its billing lol. While I stood in line, I couldn’t believe how massive the scoops were, literally overtaking the waffle. That’s why I stuck to my easy to hold, boring, chocolate milkshake ;) And cheap too, the large for just $ 5.49, guess it’s a steal in this area, just off the I-5, exit 230. Next time, I’m here for the banana split, as the Pralines sample was just out of the world, and 100x sweeter than anything I’ve had lol. It’s a real casual place to bring the kids more, and though it does have the diner feel, it’s a bit outdated, like the lamp fixtures lol. But good booth seating, albeit a bit tight. No wifi here ;(

What’s not to love about this place? Seriously — the only part I didn’t like about coming here is choosing only one thing from the ice cream menu — such a hard choice! I mean, it’s not every day we go to Mt Vernon so we wanted to make a good decision! My date and I devoured our sundae(butterscotch pecan) and our french fries(waffle and crinkle came out hot & fresh!)… apparently we were hungry after a long day of looking for tulips but I digress. The gals working there were really nice! You could either order at the counter or have a seat and someone will bring you a menu. The décor might be considered a tad run down but I like to think of this simply as vintage… Seriously, it was like stepping back in time a little bit which I really enjoyed. It’s probably a good thing I don’t go to Mt. Vernon very often because I would want to come here every time I did!

One day on the drive from Seattle to Vancouver, I pulled into Mount Vernon and saw a blast from my past( ). It was like walking into a dream from my childhood. Big Scoop? It’s identical to the branch that used to be next to Seattle Center. My father would take my sister and I there when he worked Saturdays on Elliott Avenue! If you’re a Farrell’s fan, this is a great stop… while not as big and wild as Farrell’s, they were established about the same time and have similar colour schemes and sundaes.( ) A comprehensive menu replete with faded photos on the wall… but to my recollection they always looked washed out ( ). A wonderful array of old-fashioned sundaes, from the petite to enormous, all available for your delectation! Here are some closer shots of the menu on the wall — which is cool because it has detailed descriptions of each treat: Black and White $ 5.79. Banana Extravaganza I had the Turtle($ 6) with caramel, chocolate and pecans. It was delicious and rich and wonderful. The sauce was nice and hot. FYI, if you’re not completely gorging: regular cones and dishes are under $ 3. If you’re on I-5, doing the Vancouver-Seattle route, Big Scoop is a big treat for any kid or kid at heart, or nostalgia seeker, and makes a fun detour on a vacation. You can even get real food there… but I can’t tell you anything about it!
