History
Established in 1947.
The C. F. Schafer Hardware Company store founded in 1864 was the oldest business enterprise in Mt. Pulaski when Carl, Frederick and Edwin Stahl of Dunlap, IL purchased it in September, 1947.
That same year the brothers purchase the furniture business of John T. Hershey which had been established since 1872.
By 1956 the brothers bought out the John Deere Implement dealership.
In 1959 the Stahl Brother expanded their furniture and hardware business
.
In 1970 they built a 16,000 sq foot building southeast of town for the John Deere business. By 1973 they added another 10,000 sq feet of warehouse.
By spring of 1975 construction was under way for another building to house the hardware, farm supply and furniture businesses.
The John Deere dealership has since been sold and the furniture business took over the remaining 41,500 sq feet of the building.
