North Charleston-​based Half-​Moon Outfitters, a model of energy efficiency, recently reeled in two big awards, besting outdoor retail competitors REI, Moosejaw and Rock/​Creek Outfitters among others.

Backpacker Magazine and SNEWS selected Half-​Moon Outfitters as Sustainable Business of the Year and Retailer of the Year during a ceremony in Salt Lake City.

Half-​Moon Outfitters operates eight stores in South Carolina and Georgia, including three in Metro Charleston: in West Ashley, Mount Pleasant and downtown Charleston.

The awards recognize outdoor retailers who embody the spirit of entrepreneurship, serve as visionaries for the outdoor market and are leaders in the communities they serve. The grand prize is an all-​expense-​paid trip to the international trade fair for sporting goods in Munich, Germany, next February.
