The McHugh Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy is dedicated to providing world class martial arts instruction in a safe, structured and family friendly environment.

We pride ourselves on our ability to teach amazing classes to students of all ages, from our Little Grapplers class (ages 3 – 7) to our Adults (ages 16 and up).

Our classes have been designed to be accessible, not exclusive!

History

Established in 2014.

The McHugh Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy of Mount Laurel, NJ is a member of the Ricardo Almeida Association. RABJJ was formed in 1997 by UFC veteran Professor Ricardo Almeida, who trained directly under Master Carlos Gracie Jr. at Gracie Barra in Brazil, and later Master Renzo Gracie in the Northeastern U.S.

The RABJJ Association– one of the most accomplished teams in the world– is comprised of more than ten academies across New Jersey, New York and Delaware, and is home to more than 5,000 students!

Professor Peter McHugh, founder of McHugh BJJ, has been training under UFC veteran and Grappling legend Ricardo Almeida since 2007. As a full time instructor at the Ricardo Almeida BJJ Association headquarters for over five years, he developed one of the largest and most successful youth jiu jitsu programs in the country.

An experienced competitor in both grappling and amateur MMA, Professor Pete was fortunate enough to train alongside some of the best fighters and Jiu Jitsu practitioners in the world such as: Ricardo Almeida, Frankie Edgar, Renzo Gracie, Tom DeBlass, Dante Rivera, Garry Tonnon, Edson Barboza, and many other high level competitors.

Upon earning his black belt in late 2013, Professor Pete– under Ricardo Almeida’s expert guidance– set out to bring world class martial arts instruction to the Mount Laurel, NJ area with the creation of the McHugh Jiu Jitsu Academy.
