The house was magnificent and we had a perfect time on Mount Desert Island, but the property management company was actively dishonest in returning our deposit. Admittedly we were still in the house at checkout time, having just finished packing up, but the property management company used the opportunity to claim that we were in the house for hours afterwards (we weren’t) preventing the cleaning staff from working.
Rather than simply penalizing us, they pretended to have already sent us our deposit, and then claimed we deserved none of our deposit. Eventually we only got half of our deposit back ($ 250). The house rental itself was rather expensive, but we accepted that it was worth it. Yet, we felt horribly cheated when we had to argue back and forth for weeks just to get part of our deposit back.
Sadly, we will look elsewhere for a vacation spot next year. Really, we would have almost paid the additional amount from the beginning, but being cheated like that really tainted the experience.
