History

Established in 2005.

Opie’s Candy Store is owned and operated by Freddie Quesinberry. Freddie and his late wife Carolyn grew up in Mount Airy and after raising their daughters and retiring from other jobs, they returned to their beloved hometown in 2004. Opie’s wasn’t exactly a planned venture. While walking Main Street on a crisp, autumn day they happened upon a vacant building beside of Floyd’s Barber Shop. «Wouldn’t it be nice to own a business here in our hometown!» exclaimed Carolyn. Not even a minute later, Freddie replied, «How about Opie’s Candy Store? Wouldn’t that be fun?»

The rest is history. After restoring a 100 year old building and researching old candies, Opie’s opened in March of 2005 and has greeted thousands of happy candy lovers since. Carolyn passed away in 2009, but Freddie continues to run Opie’s. Pay us a visit for some sweet treats and old-​tyme nostalgia.
