Specialties

Barky Beaver’s mission is to provide customers with quality products at a good value, while providing a delivery service that is second to none. In addition to Barky Beaver Headquarters at Moss, Tenn., second mulch processing, retail and wholesale operation is located in Algood, Tenn., near Cookeville, just off I-40.

With acres of mulch and bark in year-round inventory, Barky Beaver serves thousands of customers each year. A fleet of trailer trucks delivers bulk shipments of mulch and nursery mixes, while bagged shipments are quickly and efficiently delivered on flatbeds for easy unloading by the customer.

Because Barky Beaver offers such a wide array of products, we provide a one-stop source for almost any soil mix needed for landscaping, growing plants or for retail sales. We value our integrity, dependability and are known for our excellent customer service. We are respected throughout the horticulture industry for our continued commitment to natural ingredients that respect the earth and environment.

Nestled in the heart of the Tennessee Upper Cumberland on Tennessee’s Eastern Highland Rim, Barky Beaver has access to some of the best and largest stockpiles of bark available anywhere. From this bountiful source, bark is readily made into products that are delivered to markets in the South Central and lower Midwest regions of the U.S.

History

Established in 1985.

Our parent company, Green Forest Wood Products, was started in 1970 by a second-generation farmer, whose father entered the sawmill business to supplement family farm income. That family farming operation and all the conservation measures associated with it continues with another generation today on several thousand acres in Tennessee and Kentucky.

We’re also directly or indirectly (through our sister companies like Honest Abe Log Homes) involved in almost every part of the logging and sawmill business. When a log is brought into our sister sawmills, the bark is removed from it. That’s how Barky Beaver got started.

Along the way, Barky Beaver founder, the late Doug Smith, decided if you’re going to make your living in wood products, you must have practices in place to keep renewing those raw materials, and you need to use every part of a log you can. We’ve continued those practices from the start, and we are committed to sustainability.
