Serving Chicagoland since 1999 & headquartered in Morton Grove, Ill., Lakeshore Recycling Systems is Chicago’s leading recycling & waste diversion services provider. LRS was born in 2012 by merger of Lakeshore Waste Services & Recycling Systems, Inc. Heartland Recycling recently joined LRS’ ranks in 2014.

So I needed to get residential garbage service. And I didn’t expect it to be so difficult. Every place I called wanted to take my information and someone from sales will call me back. I had my credit card in hand and just wanted to order. Its not a high involvement purchase. I know the ballpark prices, if you are within the range you got my business. I called Lakeshore and Kate explained everything and signed me up in 10 minutes and emailed an agreement to sign. Easy peasy.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! The very first time they picked up our garbage they damaged the fence around our parking lot and are refusing to take responsibility. It took them over a month (and numerous follow ups from me) for them to determine that they would not cover the damages unless we had eyewitnesses. They tried to suggest that someone hit the dumpster with their vehicle, yet there was no damage to the front of the dumpster and there was clearly a huge dent in the top of the fence indicating that the dumpster had been dropped from above. The only other plausible explanation is that another garbage company lifted our dumpster and dropped it on our fence within a few hours of Lakeshore collecting our garbage, or the incredible hulk /​king kong happened to walk through our alley — neither seems very likely. Anyway, had I known they’d refuse to do the right thing we would have gotten the fence repaired ASAP as there has been increasing criminal activity in our alley, but they did not show any concern about the threat to our safety by treating the situation with any kind of urgency. They did offer a free month of service which covers about 15% of the cost to repair the fence.
There are so many options out there in similar price ranges — there’s absolutely no reason to go with these guys. Save yourself the hassle and money and find a company with more integrity (or at least better drivers).

I just get disgusted with the poor service from Lakeshore Recycling Systems.
Last Thursday, I notice our garbage bin was not emptied on Wednesday. I call and as usual they are full of excuses and contradictions. Oh they picked it up yesterday… No! … It’s the same garbage in their from Monday. Ill have them come by later… SURE! … They love to turn the tables around and make you feel you’re at fault. It’s your problem.
Friday is another day they come by. Do you think they would ever offer a credit or reduction? HELL NO! … They just see green, your money and want it. Forget about customer service and paying attention to detail… but it wasn’t long ago they were begging for reviews on
… Well here it is… Your reward for poor customer service and an Academy Award for Best Actress for a lying role again about how wonderful you think you all are!

After constant billing errors with our last company, we switched to Lakeshore. We’ve been with them for a few months now, and I can say, we are very happy with them. Our rep, Jim D. is amazing, he oversees our accounts personally and you can pick up the phone, call him and he’ll answer! Nowadays that’s kinda rare. I work in property management and it is very important to have good service, with LRS, we definitely have good service! And as for billing errors, THERE ARE NONE!

Service is sketchy. When you call to ask about anything from accounting problem to why is pick up late, office people are rude — especially Jan. Always get the hold please and transfer to someone else. Company cannot get it together.
They must save customer service for bigger accounts.

I use to have Allied Waste. After fighting with them to pick up my garbage and offer me some customer service, I gave up. I looked across the street at the Lakeshore Waste services truck. They always showed up on time every week smiling picking up their garbage while mine sit overflowing. Allied was not even sure what day they were suppose to pick up when I would call. providing I could talk to someone. Like trying to get out of a mob ring I finally cancelled Allied Waste and called Lakeshore! Wow Half The PRICE for the same pick up! They always show up, they keep me informed, they take all my garbage, they have good customer service and great people working for them. Thanks! What are you waiting For!!!

I have been using Lakeshore Waste Services for a few years and have been very unhappy with them. The first problem was when I tried to get a written contract from them. I needed the contract to submit paperwork for a recycling rebate. I had to call and email repeatedly to get this contract.
I also know that they do not pick up our recycling every week, like the contract states. It doesn’t happen all the time, but it is not a rare occurrence either. I have called several times to ask that they come pick up our recycling and no one seems to care. I have even asked for a refund, since they are not providing the service to which they agreed. I was told that it was my fault that I didn’t call every single time the recycling wasn’t picked up.
Other problems I’ve had is with them picking up yard waste. I have put yard waste out in the past and was charged extra for this service. Being charged extra is completely reasonable. But other times I have put out yard waste and it never got picked up. I called to find out why and they told me my landscaper should dispose of it for me. Which would be great, if I had a landscaper. Our building does all of the yard work ourselves, so we need someone to pick up the yard waste. They told me to put any yard waste into the dumpsters in the future. I don’t believe this is the proper way to dispose of yard waste, but its the only way they will pick it up.
The only reason I didn’t give them 1 star is because most of the time the above things aren’t a problem. But they are really irritating when they do become a problem.
