Rock Kayak

Rented a doubles kayak, was super fun. Strolled around the bay, the two guys that helped were very helpful and sold us on the boat tour. Good business and prices were fair.

This was the highlight of our Memorial Weekend Roadtrip. My boyfriend and I got here around 10am on Memorial Day and were the first kayakers of the day. There were 3 men working (I believe) who were super friendly and informative. Told us how close we could get to the wildlife, which way the tide was going, etc. It was $ 20 an hour for tandem, $ 8 for every additional hour.
We saw seals swimming by us and barking on their platform, otters playing, beautiful birds hunting for fish. By far the best part was the mama with her baby sea otter. My big, tough boyfriend just kept insisting we go back over near her. We respected the protected distance to keep from them and still managed to get an eyeful of the cutest thing in the world.
We only spent an hour out there, but easily could have spent another checking out the houses along the further parts of the bay. We’ll be back and I think we’ll pack a lunch for next time. I highly recommend these guys!

Best place to rent kayaks in Morro Bay. We always come here because the service is great and friendly, and the kayaks are way more comfortable and maneuverable than ones we’ve rented from competing companies on the bay.

Great human staff and even cuter staff doggie! We came here on a weekday and rented a two seat kayak for about an hour. Staff was overly thorough in explaining the ins and outs of the bay, where to go and where not to go, etc. as this was my first time kayaking and I was super nervous, I deeply appreciated this. Kayaks and vests are cleaned and well maintained. Overall a great experience.

I finally got Sweet D out in a kayak. Raleigh helped with picking the craft, providing life jackets, explaining kayak components, and getting us aboard. If it were intolerable, we could have returned and paid nothing. We signed a release stating we would wear our personal flotation devices (PFDs) throughout the journey.
One of our most fascinating sights was two small dogs wearing PFDs equipped with carrying handles. I’d call it a dip-​a-​dachshund or carry a chihuahua outfit.
We were the most highly garbed humans traveling the Embarcadero and Morro Bay that morning. We paddled about in street garb, our vests and purse stowed in a dry bag provided by Raleigh. By the time our flotation hour on Morro Bay was over, D and me were paddling in unison, steering around boats, buoys and channel markers. Nearly midday, there was not the diversity of creatures found in the morning or evening.
No matter what, it was excellent, preparing us for more potential adventure on lakes and estuaries. Excellent upper body exercise. A great morning.
Doing this again I’d plan the trip during the hours of slack tide, when there was less current for amateurs to fight.

Great way to experience Morro Bay! As first time kayaking, the service was awesome. Even though it was busy, they still managed to give indivdualized attention, while not making you wait long. Best way to get up close and personal with the bay’s sea otters and sea lions! Don’t forget to bring your camera!!!

I had an amazing time in the bay today paddle boarding with Rock Kayak. They were able to accommodate me immediately on a beautiful busy day and had great equipment that made the day enjoyable all the way around! Great staff and friendly smiles, recommended for a day on the water anytime!

Walked up with no reservation, got a two person kayak easily. Staff was super helpful and mellow. Best prices we could find and the most comfortable kayak backrest I’ve ever had. Would definitely recommend and will come again.

I’m an old, fat lady. I was worried about being able to get into and out of the kayaks, but it looked like so much fun that we decided to go. The boys on the dock were really helpful, as other Unilocalers have stated. They gave us navigational tips, info about the tide & currents, and the general boundaries of the area. This biggest thing, of course, was that they were very patient as I needed lots of help getting in & out of my boat. They didn’t get irritated or laugh; they made it much more possible for me to have a good time. I really appreciated that.
If you are older, or heavier, or have physical challenges, you can come here and they will take good care of you. Once you’re on the water, the paddling is easy, and it is so freeing to move across the water under your own power. Can’t wait to come back.

This guy is super easy to deal with and really wants you to have a good time. Prices very fair and he provides a dry-​sac for your gear. Boats & equipment are kept in very good condition. If you need a Kayak or Paddle Board check them out.
They also let you go up on the beach on the peninsula, my son enjoyed exploring there as well.

Rock Kayak was great! I had never kayaked before and was a bit nervous… they put my fears at ease and explained everything in a way that was easy to understand. The weather was beautiful and we all had a wonderful time.

Went for an hour, they had us off the dock and in the water in minutes! Went in November, actually thought it was a perfect temperature to enjoy the day. Saw seals, sting rays, and otters!

Kayaking in morrobay is fun. Better if they had ½ hour rates, just incase the weather or high tied.

Definitely a must on your trip here. Super fun to be able to be out in the bay and paddle right up to sand bar and morro rock. Best to go earlier in the day before the wind picks up. They say the wind starts around 1 ish. Which is right when we went but it was ok. My fiancé and I did the double kayak and did teamwork through the wind! It was a blast and even if you aren’t super experienced it’s still safe enough being in the bay. Would def recommend! y

Extremely beautiful location.

This is definitely a must-​do while in the area! The bay is peaceful and relaxing, and despite it being super busy this past Labor Day weekend, I didn’t feel overwhelmed once I was on the water. The bay was large enough for both a satisfying adventure and to accommodate the many patrons who were out and about. I could’ve drifted around all day.
The guys who run the place are super chill, efficient, and were very helpful with getting us set up in our kayaks. The kayaks are clean and well-​kept and they also provide life jackets + waterproof bags for your belongings. As a side note, I’m not a swimmer and also noticed many, many kids out on the bay so for those who might be looking for a safe and easy water activity, this is it! It was such an easy, breezy experience and a perfect way to spend the day after overindulging on the famous Dockside BBQ oysters. ;)

Tony is extremely friendly! They give you water proof bags in case you want to put your phone or electronics in them and also larger bags for any items you want to carry on! We took beach towels and a sweater in case we got cold, but since your moving so much, it wasn’t necessary. Don’t wear your nice shoes if you plan on getting out on the beach for a break. They’ll give you a brief demo and tips for easier and fun kayaking! They were very nice and we had a great time! They’ll inform you what route to take depending on the time and tide! We got some coffee and a sandwich at Coffee Cottage which is literally right by it. We ate it in our boat but you can also stop off on the private beach.

Here’s a terrible kayak joke:
Two Eskimos sitting in a kayak were getting cold so they decided to light a fire in their boat. It promptly sank, proving once again that you can’t have your kayak and heat it too.
Ahem. Yeah. Fortunately, a visit to Rock Kayak is far from terrible. The guys working here were really friendly and explained basic kayak maneuvers, how to work the stabilizer fin, where the notional boundaries of the bay are, and which way the currents were flowing. They gave us dry bags for our electronics, helped us into the water, and then we were off to enjoy scenic Morro Bay with all of the following:
Seals — there’s a platform not too far from shore where a ton of them are lounging around
Morro Rock — you can get pretty close to it on the water
Boats — always fun to look at
The other side of the bay — beach your kayak on the sandbar on the other side, and enjoy the soft sand, scenery and solitude
Rock Kayak is pretty much where Google Maps says it is. Find the «Kayak Rentals» sign on a yellow building, follow it towards the ocean, and find stairs leading down to the landing below.

Rock Kayak:
Single kayak: $ 12 first hour, $ 8 each additional hour
Double kayak: $ 20 first hour, $ 8 each additional hour
Kayak Horizons:
Single kayak: $ 12 first hour, $ 8 each additional hour
Double kayak: $ 18 first hour, $ 10 each additional hour
As you can see, it’s the same cost for a single. For a double, Kayak Horizons is cheaper for the first hour, but after the 2-​hour point Rock Kayak becomes cheaper than Kayak Horizons. Each additional hour is split into 15-​minute intervals ($ 2 per every 15 minutes).

I spent the day in Morro Bay and had time to kill so I bought a roast beef sandwich from Hofbrau and rented a kayak.
Tony got me in the water within 5 minutes of me arriving. He explained where the currents were, what cool places there were to check out and gave me a waterproof bag to put my purse in.
I paddled out to a floating island full of sealions and got some sweet pics. Then I went over and hiked the dunes (about a 10 minute walk) to the oceanside and had the whole beautiful beach to myself. Ate my sandwich, took pics, laid in the warm white sand. It was honestly the best part of my whole trip.
Will definitely go back to Tony at Rock Kayak if I’m in Morro Bay again!
Cannot beat $ 12 for 2 hrs!
