John and I have attended a number of productions at Actors’ Net over the years — most recently for George Bernard Shaw’s «Major Barbara.» Actors’ Net shows bring together professional, semi-professional, and local enthusiast actors to fill their stages. That is a wonderful way for newcomers to learn the ropes from the old hands. What we enjoy most about Actors’ Net is the esprit de corps of the cast that shines through with every production we’ve seen. We love watching the metamorphosis of the individual actors from role to role and always get excited to open the program and see a name in the cast whose performances we have appreciated in the past. There is a feeling of «cheering for your home team» as an audience member at every show. Within the past year, we also witnessed a staged reading of a play(scripts in hand, minimal set), which was an interesting way to see a work brought to life that wouldn’t be likely to fill the theater for several weekends, but was definitely worth airing out. We like the choice of plays. Many of them are of historical interest themselves, such as Shakespeare and Shaw, or are«period pieces.» The theater is intimate(fewer than 100 seats), so just about any seat is a great seat for enjoying every word and facial expression on stage. Actors’ Net also conducts a theater camp for youngsters, inspiring a new crop of actors for the future. The theater was founded in 1996 by Joe and Cheryl Doyle, who are still the guiding lights of the company. Their work is clearly a labor of love. Hats off to everyone involved with this little gem.
