The Grand Cafe

Went here for Valentine’s dinner and I have to say this place definitely lived up to the hype. The food was delicious and the portions were much bigger than I was expecting for an up scale restaurant. The service was great from the moment we walked in. It’s not often you go to a restaurant for the first time and the owner greets you! My only complaint is that my girlfriends steak came out undercooked, but they quickly remedy that. Mistakes happen that’s part of life, but how they handled it really impressed me. They immediately apologized and the owner himself brought out brand new steak cooked perfectly and in a timely manner! I’ve read reviews that the owner is hands on and I definitely have to agree based on my experience. I will definitely be coming back in the near future. I highly recommend this restaurant, though be ready to spend a lot of money. I’d say save this for special occasions as it’s expensive, but worth every penny.

Lovely atmosphere. However, when I started to get nervous about whether a jacket was required, I had my husband call. I worked for years at The Manor and Highlawn Pavilion as their reservations manager and when people made reservations, all of the staff let them know the rules. My husband was told «jacket required, and ties preferred.» Fine but tell him that when making a reservation.
Also? That wasn’t the case at all. Plenty of men had sweaters over shirts without jackets. Ok fine we both dressed up as it was an early anniversary dinner and my husband dresses like that for work a lot anyway.
We got a lovely banquet table, enjoyed champagne while perusing the menu. I had the chopped salad which was excellent with a perfectly light dressing. My husband had the lobster bisque and it had a great Unami taste of a rich lobster stock.
We both ordered specials– the Dover sole was delectable and my husband loved his rack of lamb. The chocolate soufflé was excellent along with the Irish coffees. Our waiter recommended a great CA Pinot Noir which helped as I had already planned that a Pinot would work with both our meals. I appreciated the waiter giving me the cork to inspect and the wine to taste. Lots of places defer to men and it makes my husband and I annoyed given my wine background.
Service got spotty the later it got which is understandable. All in all a gem of a place I look forward to revisiting.

This place is a little pricey but I’d say well worth it. I went here for dinner for New Years and they had an amazing set up. It def a place to celebrate and enjoy. I’d say even a great place just to stop for a drink!

What a perfect experience! We sat outside for lunch on a beautiful Fall afternoon. We both had what was probably the best onion soup we’ve ever had followed by avocado encrusted Bronzino over slices of grilled zucchini. Great service too!

The grande café was recommended by a coworker.
Best recommendation i have had in morristown. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with warm hello’s.
Our waitress Jennifer was so lovely and knowledgeable of each selections on the menu.
We guided her on what are likes and dislikes in regards to food and she took that information and advised us on what to eat from the appetizer to the dessert.
Jennifer was on point with everything she recommended.
She made sure that the we were almost done with the appetizers before entering in our entrée’s so that we did not feel rushed.
I will definitely be back and highly recommend this place for dinner. I sat outside and it was a beautiful night. Jennifer works on Fridays and Saturdays only!

What an amazing experience this place offers for a lovely dinner and impeccable service. My boyfriend and I went here for a nice date night and left with all of our expectations far exceeded.
We started with the Maine lobster bisque and French onion soup. The bisque was creamy and had a good amount of meat in it. The French onion was out of this world. They nailed it– I was tempted to get another order of it. Then, we had the seafood crêpe appetizer. Our waiter kindly had the crêpe made in separate halves and plated for two so we didn’t have to split it up ourselves. It was so thoughtful as we didn’t even ask for this. We weren’t sure what to expect with a seafood crêpe but it was quite savory.
For our main courses we had the free range chicken and duck breast. By this time we were pretty full from our appetizers, but the meals refused to be ignored. The chicken dish was one of the best I’ve ever had. Although I’m not a huge duck fan, their presentation and marriage of ingredients won me over.
Several times the owner came over to check on us and that was much appreciated. Furthermore, our waiter Raymond was phenomenal– definitely recommend him. If you’re looking to enjoy an exquisite meal and divine cuisine experience this place is the spot to go to.

Food was so so (there was no lobster in the lobster bisque). Service was lacking (angel forgot our appetizer). Main course meats were fine, but side dishes were definitely not worth $ 8. Definitely over priced for what we got. Lots of places in this area. It would likely be some time before I came back.

Wonderful spot for a special occasion or a truly nice meal. Very friendly and kind staff, service was great. The portions are large and the chicken dish was amazing. The other notable dishes at the table were the pork chop and filet mignon. The desserts are all delicious as well, at our table we tried four and the standout was the baked alaska. Retro, yes, but amazing nonetheless. We enjoyed how The Grand Café didn’t rush you and wasn’t a crazy busy scene. This place cares about the food and the patrons.

We had high hopes but we were disappointed with the food. The service was good and we enjoyed dining outside.

Let me first preface that my husband and I really truly wanted to love this place. It has an old school feel from the décor, ambience and service style… all of which were a nice change from the typical, more modern Morristown restaurants. Unfortunately, that was kind of the best part of our visit. We had dirty martinis (which were very good) tuna tartar and the warm Brie salad to start. The warm Brie salad was decent but overpriced and the tuna was less fresh than we would have liked. For dinner, I had the Colorado Lamb special which was very, very good. Cooked to perfection and well seasoned. My husband got the Seafood pasta which was flat out disappointing. The dish was fishy, it lacked any sort of pizazz whatsoever. It was in a very plain tomato broth.
We asked for a wine list to order glasses with our meals and they only had a bottle menu. We ordered Cabernet which was sweet and seemed like a cheap house red.
Lastly, we finished with the grand marnier soufflé which was enormous and very good as well.
We really hope that maybe we just ordered the wrong things but in all likelihood, we won’t be back to find out.

I usually come here twice a year to one of the rooms upstairs that we reserve for a private function. It is an event I always look forward to. First, for the company and second for this lovely establishment. We start with an open bar and hors d’oeuvres, these are consistently well presented and service is impeccable. We often have children with us and they are catered to extremely well.
For the meals I have to recommend the rack of lamb, it is phenomenal. I order it whenever it is on the menu. The Lobster Bisque is delicious. Recently I had the mussels which were very good. The desserts are well presented and never disappoint. If you are a fan of soufflés you must order one.
The real stand out feature is the atmosphere and service. If you’d like to honor a special celebration or just want a fancy night out, check out The Grand Café.

Great drinks. Seating outside next to park is awesome. They have heaters if needed. Best endive salad I have had in years. Dover sole was spectacular. Great service. This could be the best place in Morristown.

My husband and I decided to go there one random night, and the service was great! The owner was there and came by our table and introduce himself. These fine details goes a long way. The service matches its wonderful menu. I had lamb chops and they were served to perfection. All around a beautiful restaurant with superior service and wonderful food.

Have tried many of the «trendy» restaurants recently with mixed results. Decided to come back here for the first time in about 3 years with a friend of mine. Bottom line — this place still does it right! We felt special from the moment the owner greeted us upon arrival through Walter (a long tenured waiter) just stopping by to say hello. Food was great (lobster salad and Caesar salad followed by lamb chops and veal chops). Service was impeccable. Will be coming back more often!
PS: the new park next store and outdoor seating looked great.

My husband and I attended a catered birthday party on premises here, and let me tell you, the food was fantastic!
My first mistake was scoffing at the idea of a French restaurant: it is owned by a fantastic and friendly Irish family. The food is fancy, but I think your presuppositions of the place won’t do it justice. The atmosphere downstairs is pub-​like with a lovely bar, the upstairs dining room is very fancy, but you have to see the 3^rd floor party room to believe it. Also, they have a nice park right next to the building now and a small area of outdoor seating.
Isn’t this supposed to be about food? The party had an hours worth of passed appetizers. They. Were. Amazing! Exquisitely flavored duck on fried wonton crisp, amazing looking shrimp (my husband loved, I’ll admit I don’t eat shrimp), tuna tartare, oriental chicken, their own take on a gourmet pizza bites with bleu cheese and fresh tomato, and I believe I saw an endive salad item. I couldn’t get over the duck, myself.
Everyone serving was so friendly, and I had eaten so many appetizers that the seated dinner seemed daunting. I went with duck again, and it was tasty but I wish I’d gone with the lamb because I had a taste and wow. Hubby had lightly seared tuna with wasabi and soba noodles and loved it.
I was pleasantly surprised, and highly recommend this place. Given the chance, I’d return.

We went here for dinner on my birthday. It’s a little hidden gem in Morristown and great for a special occasion. The food was wonderful along with the service. Even as the youngest couple in the place they treated us with great respect. Our waiter was very helpful with recommendations and even came out with a special dessert and sang a mini version of happy birthday. The staff made our evening a very pleasant experience.

I’ve been to a number of fancy restaurants in the past six months or so. Each one tends to have it’s own charm and Grand Café is no exception. It is definitely a charming place to eat… for old folks.
There is a piano player in the front room and stained glass windows and imitation Renoir paintings in the back. One of the stained glass windows has a single red rose painted on it that reminded my fiancée and I of an extremely similar rose on a stained glass window in the Disney film, «Beauty and the Beast.» So there’s that.
There’s no parking at the Grand Café and we couldn’t find a spot on the street so we opted for the garage. That was fine as it’s just a couple blocks away but if it was raining or freezing out, neither of us would have be happy.
Walking in, a woman took our coats and gave us a ticket. We were seated immediately, as we had reservations, and no sooner than we sat down did we have glasses of water. Very good. Then the bread guy came. The bread was ok but the butter was too hard. Never a good sign. We quickly learned that there were several bread guys, not just one. We were asked many many times if we would like more bread. «No, thank you… no thanks… we’re good…» Enough with the bread already. (Of course, if they never came around I’d probably be bitching about that too so, you know, grain of salt.)
OK, so here comes the waiter. I can see him out of the corner of my eye. He’s walking toward us. But I’m checking in on Unilocal! This place is so fancy, I’m surprised they didn’t take my phone at the door. Anyway, when the waiter arrived, I had just finished checking in and quickly tucked my phone into my pocket. I looked up and I swear I thought I saw him scowling at me! Did I deserve it? Maybe. It’s a rude thing to do. But keep your facial disdain to yourself, guy. Make with the nice nice. I dressed up for this!
Whether or not that exchange was an invention of my guilty imagination, I can’t really say. But there was something off with this waiter all night. He didn’t seem to have much of a sense of humor. And he was not at all helpful with the wine. He rattled off the five or so wines by the glass that they have, making none of them sound appealing. So then we moved on to bottles. All I wanted was a French bordeaux recommendation and all I got was him delivering a bored reading of the wine list that I had already perused. Fine, maybe he’s not a wine guy. I ended up giving up on the French and ordering an Italian Rosso di Montalcino of my own accord. I wasn’t thrilled with the way it tasted but the fiancée really loved it.
Our apps were very good. I had the andouille sausage in a thin layer of fine polenta. It was spicy and tasty. Very pleased. The fiancée had the warm brie salad. The brie wasn’t really that warm but she liked the salad part of it.
For my main course, I ordered the 14 ounce filet mignon. Who needs a 14 ounce filet mignon?! I probably should have branched out and ordered something different but the size of the filet had me intrigued. Sadly, there’s really nothing special about it, other than the size. I’ve had much better steak in many different restaurants over the past half year. Firstly, I asked for it medium rare and it was definitely cooked longer than that. The meat had little to no flavor and a little bit of fat. There should be zero fat on a filet. Just sayin’.
The side of mushrooms was decent and when I mixed a bit of those with a piece of steak and some of the red peppers that accompanied it, that made it a little better but still, hardly anything worth raving about. I didn’t even bother to finish it. I guess I was full but it was unsatisfying.
I hate being letdown by fancy places. If my fiancée wrote this review, it would be way more favorable. She loved everything about her meal. That’s the main reason why I’m giving three stars instead of two. It wasn’t all disappointing. She had the Dover Sole special, which was excellent. It came with fluffy mashed potatoes, carrots, and green beans. The fish was easily the star of the evening.
We won’t be going back. I didn’t get a friendly vibe from the place at all. Over the course of the evening, we saw the owner walk around to every table to say hello. He never stopped at ours. I guess we have cooties.
Plus, it’s mostly old money in there. New car, caviar, three star, baby!

Cute and tiny little place by the courthouse that I never noticed. It’s a relatively fancy place with waiters wearing tuxedos and pricey wine lists. The food was yummy and the service was good. It’s a nice place to take a date and you can walk off your dinner afterwards by taking a stroll around the green.
I had a tuna dish that came with warm soba noodles, veggies, and a wasabi sauce. My companion had duck, which he said was only so-​so. We shared a tomato, roasted pepper, portobello mushroom, basil, and buffalo mozzerella appetizer that came with a balsamic reduction. It was super yummy. For dessert we shared the grand marnier soufflé, which was light and airy and perfect (at least in my opinion).
The waiter chose wines for us to have with our v. different dishes. Our water glasses were always full and there was a pianist playing the whole time. She played ‘happy birthday’ three or four times, which was odd, but I guess there were three or four parties celebrating birthdays.
