Description

Specialties

Morrison Country Store is a destination for customers from far and near who love primitive folk art, redware, candles and pewter – to name a few of the shop’s staple items. The store is housed in an 1884 historic building located on the main street in Morrison. The creaky floors and old fashioned candy counter bring back memories of a nostalgic bygone era.

You’ll find the store beautifully decorated for each season, thanks to Beth’s artistic hand. Beth and Ginny change the décor about seven times a year and new merchandise arrives almost daily.

The address is 201 Bear Creek Avenue and they’re open seven days a week – Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

History

Established in 1984.

In 1984 – after the Paul’s had moved to Morrison in 1969 and decided Morrison real estate would be a good investment. Ginny remembers a phone call on a Sunday. Her husband Rolf answered the ring and was told the store was for sale. Turning to Ginny, he said, «Do you want to buy The Morrison Country Store?» Ginny’s single word response was, «Why?» Little did she realize how her life would change!

Originally the plan was to make the property a rental. With the help of the previous owners, Tom and Bonnie Hicks, Ginny started an antique co-op with five antique dealers – and kept the little white room in back for her own first attempt at retail. Gradually the dealers moved on and by 1989 Ginny had taken over the whole store with her own merchandise.

In 1990 good fortune came to The Morrison Country Store when Beth Loya arrived, looking for a job. Coupling Beth’s talents and dedication with Ginny’s business sense, together they have made Morrison Country Store what it is today!
