I wanted to buy bread. The worker set outside smoking. He followed me in and immediately started touching the breads, without washing his hands. I left…

Say it with me now, BO-DAAAY-GA. Is this place going out of business or something? Shelves are dusty, mostly empty, very poor selection… this shop has got to be a front for an underground gambling ring or something.

Located at 16 Burnham Road in Morris Plains(NOT Morristown!!!), Fairchild is a gem of a Greek food, bakery, and premade food store. Lots of good easy baked foods(baklava, crumble cake, bagels etc). Definitely recommend stopping in for some food, looking forward to coming back and get sandwiches etc in the near future.

Really great place if you’re Greek or like Greek Food. The store has an entire WALL of imported Greek staples such as oregano, Greek coffee and pasta. They carry four varieties of Greek feta cheese(huge chunks kept moistened in brine) and black olives(also brined and oiled). They carry frozen raviolis and sauces. Fairchild Market bakes their own Greek baked goods(baklava, rolled phyllo specialties, shredded phyllo, etc). Bread is sold(French Bread, rolls, bagels, boules) but not baked on premises. They also have a rack of yesterday’s bread which is great if you’re thrifty or making a strata, bread pudding or croutons. Children always get free cookie samples, which is very useful to head off a tantrum. Today I had their eclairs(the chocolate mousse was better than the custard) and their pumpkin cheesecake(excellent!) Sometimes I visit for lunch and pick up a sandwich or muffaletta. When they have sausage and peppers for lunch it sells out fast! Their coldcuts are Boars Head brand so they are of good quality. While their sandwiches are pricier than some deli shops, the meat is of better quality and not gelatinized or of questionable origin and age. Definitely walk completely around the shop before you buy. My husband would have bought a baklava had he seen it in the pastry case, but it was on the other side of the register.
