This review is about food safety and bad customer service. I’ll start with the customer service, then the food issue: I have purchased marinated beef and chicken from here many times, its always been good. Yesterday I bought 4.3lb of marinated chicken, got home, cooked half of it and it tasted like non marinated chicken. Brought the other half back to the store today and the owner guy was there. I explained what happened, he smelled the raw chicken and said«its fine». I tried to reason with him, suggesting that perhaps the chicken was just placed into the marinade before I bought it and had not had a chance to soak it in yet. He shrugged went to the back, and weighed out 2lb of chicken(approx the amount I brought back). When I asked about the other half that I bought that was not right(having showed him my receipt) he said I have to bring that in. I told him I cooked it last night, and asked if he really expected me to bring left-overs. He said to bring it back and he will exchange it. Really? He wants my cooked left-overs? At that point it was clear he was acting like I was trying to pull one over on him for $ 5 of chicken apparently. I was flabbergasted. I asked him if he ever went to a restaurant before, eaten some of the hamburger before realizing it wasn’t correct. He said sure, then I asked him how he would feel if they brought out part of a hamburger to replace it instead of a new hamburger. He just shrugged, and I left. Yeah poor customer service is one thing, but the worst part and main reason I write this is because as I was walking out, I saw them take my left-over chicken and dumped it back into the meat case along with the others. That is disgustingly and unsafe! I try and support local small businesses, especially markets, but this kind of stuff makes it really hard to do so. If this was Cardena’s or Stater Brothers, they would have swapped the whole thing out and tossed the stuff I brought back without question.

Well, i ran into this little meat market about 1year back, and since then have not returned to any other place for all my grilling and meat needs. The store is small and hidden on the corner plaza, and is in a kinda ghetto place, but the meat they sell is as fresh and juicy as it gets and comes at a pretty cheap price too. The butcher is a really nice guy and the lady at the front was nice and helpful. The overall variety of the store is very limited, but the meats(especially the«Ranchera») are what make this quaint little market a hidden gem in my book.
