History
Established in 1954.
The Saklan School was originally founded in Lafayette as a preschool named The Gertrude Nielsen Learning Center. The school moved to Moraga in 1966, was renamed The Carden School and expanded through fifth grade. In 1978 the school was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization. In the 1990s the school expanded to include grades 6 – 8 and changed its name to «Saklan» after the local Native American tribe «Sacalanes» that inhabited Moraga and the San Leandro Creek area.
