Bill Snider(the owner) had me before I walked into Moraga Hardware, with a Iowa Hawkeye(my alma mater) flag waving high and proud at the entrance. Then I found out that he’s from Spencer Iowa(near where I grew up in NW Iowa) and a place I still return each Summer for Jesse Bogenrief’s hand crafted glass. On top of that, he also graduated from the University of Iowa(as did my Dad, Uncle, and Brother), his daughter goes there, and their family once had a cabin on Lake Okoboji(near ours on Great Spirit Lake). As they say, coincidence is G-d’s way of staying anonymous. I was actually at Moraga Hardware, as I was in the neighborhood and there were a few items that I needed for around the house. This is the type of neighborhood hardware store that I was raised on: family atmosphere, good non-box store selection and ambiance, and great service. OSH is nearby, but with this kind of karma, why would I?

Bill, Susan, and Dave have been awesome every time I came down to find solutions for my house. On several separate occassions, I have received expert advice and friendly customer service. Thank you Moraga Hardware abd Lumber!

Recommended several products for my sons Cub Scout pinewood derby race that were absolute junk, and not at all fit for the job!(One item, a dry non-graphite lubricant, I saw later one online reviewer say was«to be avoided at all costs»). What they said at the time was«this is what everybody uses.» Well, that’s interesting because nobody at our race used it. Look, big box stores and online merchants are cheaper and almost as easy to shop from. So if I go into a small, local hardware store at all, it’s because I want good advice. If that advice isn’t trustworthy, if its«buyer beware», then I might as well go across the street to OSH and save some money.

Wow! What an amazing local hardware store! I was astonished by the service I received on Thursday when I went in to find some way to connect my faucet to a siphoning device for my fish tank. One of the employees, Gerald, told me that I had a very specialized thread on my faucet, and if I wanted to get an adapter to fit that specific thread, I would have to figure out the manufacturer of my sink, and go to a plumbing store like General Plumbing to get a very specific part ordered. I told him that it was my day off and I want to get this project done. He immediately took ownership, and spent a good 30 minutes trying to find the perfect solution to make it work. 2 piece of rubber tubing, 2 different sized thread adapters, a nut here, a washer there, and a roll of Teflon tape later, he conjured up a connection! It only cost me $ 11.34 for the whole rig, but the best part of all… ITWORKED!!! I took the thing home, and was able to siphon 30 gallons out of my 55 gallon tank in a matter of 5 minutes, without spilling a drop. The commitment to service was extremely refreshing, and although(due to Gerald’s brilliance and creativity) I only spend $ 11 this time, I will never go to another hardware store for anything in my life. Thanks Bill, Gerald, and the rest of the staff at Moraga Hardware & Lumber for being an amazing asset to our community! Todd Saran

The service here couldn’t be better. They will help you find anything, they will deliver for you, and you’ll never wander around looking for something without help. Such a dramatic difference from Osh across the street where it’s hard to find an employee!

Great local hardware store. Need one bolt or one nail or a dozen? They’ve got it. No need to buy a package of 25 or 100 when all you need is one. Personal service is the BEST! If you don’t see it or can’t find it just ask. Super friendly. Love ‘em!

Love, love, love these folks. I grew up in Moraga going to this store and now that I am all grown up they are my go to hardware store. I am certainly no handyperson, but I went in with plumbing problem and David showed me the parts I needed and told me how to fix it, problem solved, works like a charm! Prices are very reasonable, service is first rate.

Ed S. is right — this really IS the quintessential neighborhood hardware store. The staff there is excellent, knowledgeable, and very service-focused. Unless what you’ve bought fits into the equivalent of a paper lunch bag, you’ll have an offer to carry things to your car, etc. And they have no issues with recommending another place(even OSH, whose arrival has certainly hurt their business?) if they don’t have what you need in stock. Additionally, everyone who works at this family-owned business knows the ins and outs of the area, and can make recommendations for all sorts of services. VERY helpful. I stop here before going elsewhere and hope others do, too!

I’ve enjoyed shopping at Moraga Hardware for 40 years. Last time I was in, Bill fixed my caulking gun, unplugged my tube of caulk I thought had dried up, and gave me a bag of popcorn — all without selling me anything! I’m very glad they survived the unnecessary addition of OSH to the neighborhood!

I can’t tell you how many times these folks have bailed me out of problems. They’re knowledgeable, friendly, courteous, friendly and good lookin! You can’t help but enjoy your visit to the store. It reminds me of when I was a kid growing up in a small rural town in Texas — they call you by name, anticipate your requirements and always, always go out of their way to resolve your issue if you need help. All retailers could learn from these folks how to treat people.

This is the quintessential neighborhood hardware store. I’m not a handyman-type and they are always super-helpful locating that little plumbing widget or thing-a-ma-jig that I need for a small repair. I always head here first before going to the nearby OSH. Their selection is obviously not as big as OSH’s but most of the time they seem to have what I need. Matches the«small town» feel of Moraga. A+ And they have free popcorn as you leave.

High prices, bad cashiers, charged me for more items than I had and I had to realize something wasn’t right. and a negative in my book, they dont accept the entertainment book Ace coupon for 5.00 off 25.00 or more. They chose not to participate anymore, I suspect they ARETRYINGTO keep their heads above water since Osh has opened up nearby.
