Unsanitary alert. Had a bad day so we went for some ice cream. I asked for gummy bears on top. The man squished the gummy bears into the ice cream with his bare hands, so they wouldn’t fall out of the cup. I watched him take money from the previous customer… and no hand washing occurred in between. I was so disgusted I left. What a waste of money and ice cream that I can’t and won’t enjoy.

Simply the best ice cream I’ve ever had! Staff is friendly. Place is cheerful and authentic. My only complaint is that the staff all give inconsistent scoop sizes for the same cup/cone size. One person gives hearty scoops and the other paltry. Not fun if your husband gets the huge scoop that is twice the size of your own!

I’m a big fan of Loard’s ice creams and this location is definitely on my radar. It seems a tiny bit smaller than other locations, but is well-equipped with all the usual colorful candies and chocolates of most Loard’s stores. The ice cream is pretty much what I expected, yet the customer service seemed to be lacking ever so slightly. Maybe I expect too much, but I would think that being in Moraga, the clerks behind the counter would be a bit perkier? That sounds snobby, oh shoot! But, in all seriousness, I would have so much fun working the counter at an ice cream store, I mean, it’s ice cream! Sugar high all day! Woo! Ok, no? It’s just me then? Alright. I’ll cut them some slack. I did get a ginormous single scoop of ice cream. That’s enough to keep me happy and shut my mouth. Tee hee! The end.

No dairy free ice cream? Really? Even the fellows behind the counter said they hadn’t seen any in the case for months. Bring your family here for an after dinner scoop but leave your lactose intolerant kid at home. Methinks not, is right!

Came here with my husband and kids after a day at the park and what a treat! Mocha almond fudge is my new favorite and can’t wait to try the coconut pineapple and ube ice cream next! Kids enjoyed chocolate mint. My husband enjoyed his sherbet freeze which he hadn’t enjoyed since high school :)

I go to Loards in Moraga pretty often. I ordered a single and a doubles scoop in a cup. When I got home I realized they looked and felt to be about the same. I weighed them(because I’m paranoid) and the single scoop was heavier. I feel a little robbed. Perhaps they should work on standardizing scoops, I don’t know. Both clerks did help me so maybe there was miscommunication there. Some of it is operator error in that I didn’t watch them Ill admit, but still I shouldn’t have to. They make great drinks and and the quarts and pints never dissappoint unless they dont have a flavor, but thats not a big deal. Just keep an eye on the scoop sizes.

Everyone there was wonderful. Great service; awesome ice cream cake. Everyone loved the cake. In more detail I got there late after they closed. They still let me in to order my ice cream cake. They also let me pick two flavors of ice cream instead of one. Then they asked me what design or color. I asked for orange and black. Right away they asked if it was a giants theme party and I said yes. They offered to sketch a design and see if that’s what I wanted. I said I trusted whatever they would come up with and didn’t need that. Anyway Zach the Mgr /cake maker was awesome. Couldn’t be happier with the price tastiness of cake and even the design. I attached cute photo of cake. Price 35 for sheet size.(8×12inches) And nothing extra for the elaborate design.

I placed an order for a birthday cake here, they told me it would be ready in a few hours. I came back, no cake. They had forgotten to do my order. They offered me my money back, and a free cake from their freezer. Two thumbs down for their management and organization.

A good shop, has nice soda selection, good ice cream and candies. Only problem is price of shakes, malts, etc. Very pricey. The candy and soda is cheap, but the drinks! And they come in smallish cups.(At least what I got). I do want to see someone eat the mega sundae. 10 ice cream scoops, frosting, cherries, toppings. Mmmm. You could always go to Safeway and get a mini cup for $ 1, if on sale.

I’ve actually worked at Loard’s and I’ve had the opportunity to sample pretty much everything. The selection you’re gonna get is fairly large, and they’ll have rarer options like Macipuno(baby cocunut) and ube(taro root). The problem is that the ice cream isn’t always fresh, and you’re gonna be paying a lot more than an average parlor. Bottom line, its the only place in moraga to get ice cream that’s decent, but its freakin moraga and you can’t get much of anything from this town anyway… Take the 10 minutes to drive down to coldstone in lafayette, which may be more expensive and have less variety in terms of flavors, but the custom and classic creations will taste much better and you know that your ice cream creation is being built by hands that really know what they’re doing with some effort towards quality.

Loards is the only place in the area(that I know of) that makes old fashioned ice cream soda. This makes my mom very happy. They also have a great selection of sherbet and ice cream. I’m not a big ice cream person, I much prefer froyo, but if I’m going to eat ice cream it’s going to be Loards. This is my first time at this location and I was really happy with the customer service. A high school girl was working the counter and she was so polite and patient with my girls who couldn’t make up their minds I was surprised. I was losing patience faster than her. It’s clean and tidy as well.

Great ice cream. If your a fan of mocha chip ice cream you need to try their version. Excellent! Tasted a few other flavors but IMHO the mocha chip is the best. Make sure you avoid the after school soccer mom/mini van rush. It can be a nightmare in there with huge groups of families sitting for an hour or too just gossiping. Get in before 2:30pm. Staff are friendly hardworking HS/college kids so tip them well!

Loards is no longer in my neighborhood — and I happened to be in this neighborhood today — so stopped by to pick up a quart of black raspberry for myself and black cherry for DH. Yummy! Loard’s black raspberry has been a longtime favorite. It is still as delicious and creamy as I remember from the last time which was probably a couple of years ago. It seems a little pricey — so buying a carton and stretching it out at home over several sittings seems like a sensible way to indulge.

Stopped on a whim and so glad we did. I ordered a scoop of the«Fresh Banana» ice cream and I must say it was the most superb banana ice cream I ever had. Rich, real banana flavor. Two guys behind the counter were friendly and efficient. Two cones were $ 6, much more than I would have liked to pay. 1 point off for that but otherwise a stellar experience. I’d definitely return but it won’t be my regular ice cream spot because of the price.

This is the 4th Loards I have been to, and just like the others, it is my favorite ice cream place. My favorite is the Lemon Chiffon, which is unlike any other Lemon custard type of ice cream out there and is the most lemony and delicious. The only difference I noticed from this one was that there seemed to be less low fat flavors, which is kind of a bummer, but I won’t hold it against them. If you are a fan of Cookies N Cream, Loards has the most incredible by far and the ice cream itself really tastes like an oreo filling, so good! Their cones are to die for and so is their ice cream. Definitely more expensive than some other ice cream places, although has anyone been to Baskin Robbins lately? Unless you go on a Tuesday, it’s not cheap there either and not nearly as good. Love this place and that it’s now in Moraga.

Came in after #1’s soccer game in Moraga yesterday. We were hotter than Hades so we decided to get a scoop. The ice cream is pretty good, but… it costs way more than Rite Aid!!! No, I do not work for Rite Aid, but, I have sense and sensibilities to know that, unless you get ice cream in El Segundo, ya really can’t f-up ice cream, you can really only offer more flavors and overcharge for the privilege. Though this joynt ain’t as bad as Cold Stone, they still charge like they are located in, well, Moraga. I am not down with paying premiums, so, ya lose a star homie. It got me through the hour.

This is an institution in the Orinda/Moraga neighborhoods. So many Moms depended on their yummy ice creams for bribing their kids over the years. I love their mocha chip flavor, and love to stroll down there in a sunny afternoon for an ice cream. I was shocked, however, by the recent prices. A single scoop for $ 3 !!! I don’t mind it though, with everything else more expensive, I would rather pay their price and see this business open than seeing them go out of business.

love this ice cream place! if they get rid of ube and mango… they will be reduced to negative five stars. and if they get their high school employees to be a little nicer… they’ll get five stars. but in other business… delicious!
