The word «Doula» comes from the Greek Language. It means «woman’s servant». A Doula is a professionally trained supportive companion. According to research, the presents of Doula during labor and delivery increases the bond between mother and baby, enhances breastfeeding and decreases the incidence of obstetrical complications. The Doula’s role is to provide non-clinical care during childbirth. She provides emotional, physical and informational support to women and their partners. She advises them in relaxation, breathing, gives massage, helps to try different positions and techniques to decrease laborpain and helps baby to turn or move in order to ease the labor. She can advise regarding specific comfort measures, take a bath or a shower. The Doula encourages the mother to allow her own body to tell her what may be the best at various time during labor. Douls’s Ethical responsibilities to her clients include confidentiality, privacy, and reliability.
