True Aim Firearms Training & CCW Certification

More than exceeded my expectations!
I had read the Unilocal reviews prior to reaching out to Dennis for training and thus had already a degree of confidence that was going to receive a very professional and thorough training but in reality it was a much more fulfilling experience than I could have imagined. While being concerned about personal safety, due to circumstances out of my control, I had to reach out to Dennis for training alone but I felt immediately at ease after the first communication exchange because it was very professional and approachable; and approachable is a really key factor because I was also completely ignorant in the subject and was afraid that was going to be turned down. Dennis was very sensitive to my concerns and provided a wealth of advice on the matter but moreover he presented all the material in an extremely easy way to grasp. The whole experience was more than worth it because to top it all, it was perfectly orchestrated; every single detail was taken care of and every minute was spent wisely. I will definitely pursue further training with Dennis and I truly recommend it to everyone out there.

I am not sure how i was referred to True Aim, but I am very pleased that I found them. Dennis instructed me for my CCW requirements. I was worried that this type of training would be boring and not very useful. I was totally wrong. I thought the instruction was great. I also felt I learned a lot about the mental thought process behind what to do when carrying a weapon. I was so please with the instruction and training I received I also attended another group training session instructed by Dennis. His training has been so valuable that I plan on attending more of his group sessions. Dennis has shown me that there is much more to responsible gun management than just knowing how to shoot. Bottom line, he is great.

For personal reasons, I wanted to know the basics of using a handgun. Dennis at True Aim helped me go over the basics of using a handgun including the components to a handgun, loading and unloading a hundgun, proper stance, answered any questions I had, and helped to critique my firing manner in a very observant and calm manner. Dennis is the type of teacher anyone would want — patient, observant, and knowledgeable. He was calm, which meant I stayed calm even though I am a beginner to firearms. I honestly could not find a better trainer — and I’m glad to know that someone very competent and patient has a business like this in Ventura County considering the serious subject manner. I definitely will be working with Dennis in the future.
Also, just because I am a big time stickler, Dennis showed up right on time! My impressive factor went up! I know how valuable time is to me, and I’m glad that True Aim recognizes how valuable my time is too!

Been working with Dennis for quite a few years now. After being around firearms for over 50 years and around top professional training, I find Dennis to be one of the very best. He takes time and is highly observant with your firing habits — good and bad. He is good with men, women, & young shooters. Highest recommendation.

Selecting a firearms trainer, with little prior experience, can be daunting. Is it too early to call a trainer? Do we know too little? Will the trainer be aggressive or intimidating? While I can’t speak for other trainers, Dennis made all of these fears vanish.
Not only was Dennis military on time (few minutes early), he is clearly extremely knowledgeable, yet gentle enough to walk someone — who has never held a gun before — through the basics of firearms. Dennis is clearly a pro. You are left wanting to know more knowledge because you know that Dennis has so much to offer.
VERY IMPORTANT: Don’t expect to call Dennis and go directly to the range to start shooting. I had that false impression and I am so glad I followed Dennis’s advice. In essence, Dennis met us at our home first and we spent just a bit over 3 hours reviewing as much material as possible from gun safety rules (yes, I thought I knew everything, but knew very little!), loading and unloading, to how to hold a firearm (thought I had that part down too; nope — I already had bad habits built in), and more.
To sum the first meeting: Learn everything and build a relationship with Dennis so that the only thing missing is «the boom» when you go to the range and fire live rounds.

Dennis and his crew of instructors are professional and friendly. No macho attitudes here. They were organized, well prepared and always safety aware. If you are looking for a very professional teacher for CCW and proper firearm safety, Dennis is the person for you. He is very patient, and thorough on the laws and weapon manipulation. When we went out to the range he put me through a series of drills and tactics that were amazing! I will be recommending him to all of my friends and family. He puts you in real life scenarios and pushes you to mentally and physically. I would go to no one else! The lessons I was taught could potentially save my life or life of a loved one someday! I will continue to train and take classes with him in the future.

Dennis is very knowledgeable and professional. I just completed training and certification for my CCW and I would highly recommend him. His patience and calm demeanor made for a comfortable, low stress experience. I feel like I received thorough training and I’m much more prepared than I was when I first started!

Dennis is an instructors instructor; a thorough and diligent trainer who will shoot straight with you especially if you don’t. :|
If you do wrong, he points out the corrections in with a smile, gentle correction, and with the heart of a teacher (thank God for the blue gun). My wife feels comfortable with him training us in our home and experienced the CCW course with me. His rates are very reasonable and he definitely earns every cent for services rendered. I walked away with very new perspectives on the responsibilities of carrying firearms in the modern world that I don’t think many instructors cover. Even if you never plan to carry in your lifetime, the CCW course is worth the time and treasure. The man lives and breathes «safety» and teaches you the «trade» rather than the tricks. I give Dennis 5 stars unreservedly.

If you are seeking firearms training or CCW certification that consists of instructors dressed up in Battle Dress Uniform’s who are seemingly gearing up for deployment then this might not be the instructor you are looking for. Instead, if you are seeking an instructor that is willing to work with you on a one on one basis by challenging you mentally with real life scenarios thereby, preparing you for a split second decision that will impact you for the rest of your life then this is the instructor for you.
Dennis will prepare you by first setting the stage with scenarios and running Q&A sessions to best determine your frame of mind and general background knowledge. He then takes you through a slow walk of the repercussions of your decision making process. Following the scenarios there are dry fire sessions whereby, you will learn how to effectively handle the firearm. This is a step by step process that ensures complete hand gun safety.
All in all, I cannot say enough about the professionalism Dennis portrayed. He makes you feel very comfortable without any pretense. Teaching proper gun safety takes someone with a great deal of patience and understanding. Again, if you are seeking a one and done program led by instructors punching out cookie cutter presentations just to get your certification then this is not the program for you.
However, if you are seeking one on one instruction on proper firearm training with an instructor that will personally walk you through every possible scenario then Dennis is the instructor for you. As a closing thought, if you are reading this review then my guess is you are considering taking firearms training for personal safety for home or even for CCW purposes. In either case, you should thoroughly consider seeking out the best possible training that will put you in a position to survive a potential attack.

My dad is incredibly hard to buy presents for. Most of the time, whatever we buy, he returns. This year, my sister and I wanted to gift him with something unique, something that would create an experience, a memory and nothing that he could return. So we called True Aim. My dad was over the moon happy and loved every minute of his present. My sister and I got to spend a day with our dad and an incredible instructor. When i asked him what he thought, he whispers: «best gift».

If you are going to get your CCW or just want great firearms training, Dennis is the absolute best person to go to. He is an excellent instructor and an overall great guy. I have had 3 classes with him so far and will definitely do more.

Had a defensive handgun training today. It was seriously the most fun and the most I have learned since I have been shooting. Shooting from the holster, concealment, close quarters, moving target. It was a blast and extremely educational! Can’t wait for the next training course!

Dennis is the ONLY one to use. He came recommended by guys I trust… Special Forces dudes who really know what they are talking about… They were right on the mark.
You don’t just want to pass, you want to be safe and live thru it if something happens. I’d only recommend Dennis in this area.

Once again Firearms Training/​Dennis did not disappoint. We took an all day CCW training course with Dennis… all I can say is that it was an awesome day! Dennis is a fantastic instructor and has the patience of a Buddhist monk. which was great for working with my wife. I’ve been an avid shooter for 30 years and I just completed my certification class for my ccw with Dennis. As a long time shooter,
I was very impressed by how thorough and detailed Dennis is as an instructor. He covers everything from a real-​world perspective. I would highly recommend training with Dennis for shooters of all levels.

What a positive experience! Dennis is a fantastic teacher and happened to be one of the best deals in Ventura County as well. I saw him for the CCW course and was pleasantly surprised by the depth and breadth of his knowledge as well as him not explaining thing I know already. He worked with my prior knowledge and training of firearms, as opposed to against it, so I could incorporate my existing good practice and muscle memory into what he taught me. In addition, he was the only instructor that I talked to that actually wanted to get to know me before he just told me a price and what days they are available. He worked with my existing training so I would not need the «maximum» amount required which saved me both time and money.
I am completely satisfied with my experience and when I want to receive any other certifications or training Dennis will be the very first and last call I make.
