I am so happy with Dr. Wood. I have never had to wear glasses before and he and Reuben made the easiest transition for me. I love the bed side manner he has and he just takes the time with me to explain everything. I very much recommend his office.

My family has been going to Dr Wood for probably 20 years now. I wanted to acknowledge all of the great service I have recieved over the years. He takes the time to explain everything so I have a very thorough understanding of what is going on with my eyes (and when my kids were younger he would give me the same update on what was going on with them.) He has followed up personally to make sure that everything was going well after the visits, whether it was the first set of contacts for my daughter or the repair he made to my son’s glasses when he was «a little rough» with his frames.
When I was in this year for my annual exam and getting some new frames, I was assisted by Ruben, who spent extra time with me picking out some frames that would fit comfortably in my motorcycle helmet. We must have tried 15 different frames, but in the end it was the first pair he suggested.
My kids have both moved out of Moorpark and they are own now and could go anywhere they wanted but they still come back to see Dr Wood every year.

this is our 2^nd year going to dr. wood. all 3 of us get our glasses here. as usual, excellent & knowledgeable service, excellent selection on frames. reasonable prices. i would highly recommend you come and try it. so long as i live in moorpark, i will never go to another opthometrist.

My son has seen Dr Wood for a few years, he has diabetes type 1 and Dr Wood pays extra attention to his eyes always looking for signs that may affect my son’s vision. I don’t know why some people are giving him and his staff bad reviews. We are always welcomed and with a smile. Maybe if you come with a good attitude people will treat you nice and with courtesy. Just saying.

I am very pleased with both Dr. John Wood and his staff. Dr. Wood took the time to explain all the tests and the results. His detailed knowledge was very impressive. He answered all my questions and provided good eye advice for me for the future (I guess I’m getting a bit older now). I had a full eye exam and came out feeling like I would be seeing less blurriness once I got my new glasses.
This is my second set of glasses (eye glasses for computer reading and sun glasses for driving) in about 3 years from Moorpark Eye Care. The first set were still in good working order when I came in. It showed they were made out of good quality materials.
Ruben in Dr. Wood’s office helped me choose the right frames for my type of face. I was bit nervous my wife might not like the frames. She loved them when she saw me wearing them. I got progessive lens that turn gradually dark gray. Ruben explained that brown lenses distorts the vision. Dr. Wood had a very good selection of eye glass frames and so it was quick and easy to find the right pairs.
Both my eye glasses and sunglasses came out perfect. Since my skin is oily, Dr. Wood put on these no slip nose pads at no charge which was very nice of him. I received a polite phone call from his staff letting me know both pair of glasses were ready.
Everyone was very nice and helpful to me. His prices are quite reasonable and he accepted my insurance. All in all it was a very pleasant experience. I highly recommend Dr. Wood and Moorpark Eye Care. I will continue to return.

I am a new patient and found Dr. Wood and his staff to be professional but also friendly and very helpful. The eye exam was very thorough and as ‘up to date’ as those that I’ve had at other doctors offices.
My wife and son will be going to see Dr. Wood’s as well.

I just moved to the area and my glasses are 2−½ years old. I found Dr Wood base on wanting Oakley Frames, and his office is a dealer. Setting the appointment was very easy and I even got a call back the day before to remind me. I printed the forms need off his website. The office is easy to find and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Dr Wood was friendly and very knowledgeable. I didn’t feel he was rushed or that I was not person in the chair. He even asked me to be candid and contact him if he I had any issues or concerns with him, his staff or my visit. Over all it was a very nice experience and I order new glasses and sunglasses from this visit. If I had to make one comment for improvement it would be that the total appointment to almost 2 hours, a little long. I would recommend Dr Wood to Friends and Family

Dr. Wood is thorough with my annual exams, taking significant time and care to understand my vision issues. He always correctly diagnoses my Rx for contacts and takes care to get to know me and my family on a personal level. This office is truly excellent.

My daughter went here last summer for glasses and we were happy. So I switched from my last eye Dr. who was at Sears in T.O. because she was not very attentive to my needs. (See my Sears Optical Thousand Oaks, for more info on her)
I have developed some issues with my vision and my contacts which I conveyed to Dr. Wood and he immediately had a good idea as to the causes. I’ve worn contacts for 35 years and have seen many eye doctors. Dr. Wood is professional, especially with the family medical history part of the exam. He switched me to a new brand of contacts that are working out better than my previous ones. His staff was also professional when it was time to choose the frames and contacts. They don’t give the high pressure sales like so many other optometrist’s offices do. The location is convenient and I think worth the drive even if you aren’t right in Moorpark.
*Update. I am sad to say that the front desk staff’s bad service raised its ugly head again, this time for me. It seems they are not trained to professionally handle mess-​ups that are their fault.
I could have gotten my contact’s cheaper online when it was time for me to reorder, but I was promised they’d match the price and get them the next day. But that turned into a 4 day wait, the same as what I would have waited for the online contacts. I was offered a pair of trials in the meantime, but I didn’t make a special trip for them. When I did go in to purchase the box, I had to scold and fight the girls at the desk for the originally offered trial box in addition to my purchase. It was the least they could have done for my trouble. I wish Dr. Wood could take a moment now and then to read these reviews and reply. There’s a couple of people he should fire, and some of whom he needs to reprimand and keep away from his patients.

Dr. Wood is an excellent optometrist. Every time I visit his office I am seen prompty and given a professional and thourough exam. Dr. Wood is very personable, kind and trustworthy and I always have a positive experience at his office. I reccomend him to anyone that is looking for an eye doctor.

Astoundingly bad service.
I was called before Christmas to «use or lose» my family’s vision insurance. We didnt need anything but I figured, as long as it was about to expire for the year, why not.
When I went in, they pushed a new prescription for my daughter’s glasses. Its right before Christmas, I explained to the front office that I was not in a position to be making purchases today. Oh, but its covered by your insurance, they told me. As I was signing the order, they informed me of a «materials» fee– thirty something bucks. What part of I’m broke before Christmas don’t they get? But since we had been there all morning, I ponied up the cash as to not make waves.
I was called a few weeks later to come get them. Since I work five days a week, I asked them if they were open that Saturday to come get the glasses. I was informed that they were. I live about forty five minutes away– so I woke up early that Saturday, piled everyone in the car, and drove out to the office to find a big sign that said CLOSED on it. Really? No one could have called me, knowing that I said I would be there that morning to come pick them up?
So I leave a message that morning as I drive away– please mail me the glasses. Two weeks pass, three weeks. No glasses. I call the office, and they tell me that they will mail me the glasses– for FIFTEEN DOLLARS. The doctor isn’t willing to waive the fee since they had me drive all the way out there to get them only to be closed? No.
Hmmm. No apologies for screwing me over, no attempt to make it right.
Its obvious to me that my business is not appreciated and that my time is not valued.
I wont be back.

My family has been going to Dr. Wood’s clinic for over a decade. While we miss the girls that were there for most of that time, we have been very happy with the newcomvers.
Dr. Wood is very personable and makes me feel very comfortable. He also remembers a lot about my family and always asks how they are doing.
Visiting here is always a positive experience.

Dr. Wood is very nice and thorough, and I really enjoyed my check-​up with him. He prescribed contacts with bifocals — and I feel like a new person! I wish my other eye care center would have recommended this type of contact for me years ago!
Now on to his staff. THUMBS WAY DOWN! It has been weeks of me trying to get them to order my contacts that are paid for through my Vision Service Plan. I have been into the office in person, once actually speaking to Dr. Wood about the order — three voice mails (unreturned) and finally they get back to me today — and ask ME WHAT CONTACTS TO ORDER??? Really? How about what the Doctor prescribed? The staff is not professional, talking loudly about personal issues, and just not attuned to proper customer service at all.
Dr. Wood is great — the staff not so much!
