While I have never visited the winery, I live in Western Md where if you go too far in one direction you will end up in West Virginia and I often come across thier wines and have had the currant wine multiple times. Juicy and sweet with gorgeous color and spicy aroma, the wine caresses the tongue reminding you of the woods and summer days, eating berries from the mountains, and a hint of woody undertone alows a little nod to the wine’s West Virginia natural source. No the winery itself is not that of a beautiful California vineyard, which are known to be destinations onto themselves, but rather a direct vintner to buyer store. You find however, with the many incredibly consistently good wines with lovely variety, Whitehill wines are modestly priced never exceeding 20.00. While I live on a budget, Whitehill is my go-to perfect gift, and a absolutely perfect wine that allows you to slow down and enjoy the beauties of life.

This is NOT a winery to sit, sip and enjoy the ambiance. This is essentially a retail store that lets you sample the goods before you make your purchase. Their wines are decent and very affordable. I think it’s worth a stop in if you’re in the area. However, they’re only open on Saturdays, Sundays and«whenever we are here.» Lol. That said, I have advice for the owners: 1) Add a couple of tall tables and stools so guests can relax during the tasting. At the very least, add/build a tall bar where guests can stand and be served. 2) Give a more generous tasting size(ATLEASTDOUBLE) so that guests can actually taste each wine… 4 drops is NOT enough. 3) Don’t ask guests what they want to try, just give them a taste of everything. If necessary, try a «3 for free or $ 3 for all» fee structure where each guest can choose up to 3 wines to taste for free OR they can pay a $ 3(or other small fee) to try them all. Guests who aren’t familiar with the wines or winery don’t often like picking the wines themselves, so giving them an option to try ALL the wines automatically makes it a lot more convenient.

I agree with the second review of this winery. It’s a retail store where you can purchase wine. You are allowed to taste the wine before you purchase it but it’s 2 tablespoons worth of wine and we had to request the wines we wanted to taste. There wasn’t a tasting menu and the pourer didn’t talk about the wines or give descriptions of the wine.

After visiting some other wineries in WV, I found the wine at West-Whitehill to be one of my favorites. However, part of what makes a great winery experience for me is a great winery. This winery is simply a retail store that sits on a main, busy road. With no seating or cozy environment to relax and drink the wine, I was disappointed, which was let-down because the wine was really great.

Excellent and unexpected quality winery in the heart of Hardy County. Long established reputation for a variety of wines, including some speciality wines like Mountain Spice, etc. Their prices are cheap by city standards. You can buy a mixed case. Worth the drive.
