Pikes Peak Dessert Lounge

On a recent trip to Colorado we happened to find this place in a tiny, grungy strip mall. We ordered a pizza a couple doors down, and while we waited ran over to this hidden gem to have some ice cream.
Little did we know, we found one of our favorite places in Colorado.
Walking in, it had the feel of a coffee shop with less décor. (I’m not complaining, because the Sorbetto will make up for any discrepancies about the decorating.) There was about ten to twelve flavors of what looked like ice cream displayed. Chocolate truffles in another display to your left, and on the far right a small display of pastries. All are freshly hand made by the owner.
Our first visit…(yes, we went more than once.) I ordered a small Chocolate Raspberry as did my son. The attractive young man serving us gave us two heaping scoops in a little cup towering inches above the rim. It was laughable at how generous the serving was; we didn’t mind and were glad after tasting it. We found some little lounge chairs near the back and casually began tasting. At the same time my son and I stopped dead in our tracks with the first bit and stared at one another in shock. It was a light and creaming dark chocolate base, with a subtle pop of raspberry. Frozen Raspberries embedded for an extra kick. It was heavenly!
We gorged on our «small» sample and left with wide smiles and chocolate on our faces and fingers.
The next day after dinner we headed back over for a new sample and a box of truffles to take with us as we were leaving the next morning.
The owner served us this time not as generous as the last server, but gave us plenty to satisfy us. I ordered the Rocky Mountain High and my son ordered the Sweet Apricot. I also ordered a small box containing 6 of the truffles to try for our trip home. I chose the Rose Moscoto, Amber Ale, Salted Caramel, and her last Rocky Mountain High. She wrapped it up in a sweet ribbon and bagged it up.
We found our usual place and began anxiously digging in. Mine had a creaming cherry base with chocolate pieces and dark cherry halves. The flavors mingled and swirled. The Apricot was light and soft with bits of apricot making it very subtle and sweet. We were both full from dinner, but it didn’t stop us from finishing every last bit. I asked if it would be rude to lick the bowl; my son didn’t object as he was already doing it.
When we got home we were road weary and tired. Ate our fast food dinner and opted for a truffle before bed. Our first taste was the Rose Moscoto. I couldn’t believe it. It had a soft subtle hint of the moscoto encapsulated in dark chocolate. It was so smooth it literally melted in your mouth. It was the perfect end to a really fabulous vacation. We still have the truffles and are saving them to eat one each day. I’m not sure what we will do when they are all gone. I don’t want to think about it.
