At the practice of Steven Chang, you will experience all that modern dentistry has to offer, including a comprehensive list of general, restorative and cosmetic dental care services to meet the needs of the whole family. Our goal is to assist each patient in achieving and maintaining long term dental health and a beautiful smile. Business Owner

Steven Chang, D.D.S., is a native of Monterey and obtained his Doctoral of Dental Surgery degree from Loma Linda University in 1991. Following his graduation, Dr. Chang elected to return to Monterey area because of his love for the local community.

During his professional education at Loma Linda, Dr. Chang performed volunteer dental and missionary work for the Masai people in Kenya as well as for the Navajo Reservation in the United States.

A member of both the California Dental Association (CDA) and American Dental Association (ADA), Dr. Chang is committed to expanding his professional skills and knowledge on a continuing basis. Dr. Chang devotes a considerable amount of his time and energy to attend professional seminars and symposiums. The knowledge gained from these educational seminars helps to ensure that our patients will be able to enjoy the benefits of the most advance procedures and techniques as they become available.

I’ll be looking for a second opinion. Dr. Chang completed a check up «said nothing — until he asked me. At the last check up did you receive any treatment? I replied «no but your associate suggested ««.
Dr. Chang than says «oh yes! Now that you mention it. «you have 14 cavities».
For real? 14 cavities?
Sounds like a money making scam to fund his mission trips & snarky front staff.
It’s not surprise his hygienist mentioned oh ya Dr. Chang can fill those cavities very quickly next visit!
I’ll be getting a second opinion!
I would suggest looking elsewhere for dental care and staying away from this dental office.

I was seen within a week of calling for my first appointment. The staff was very courteous and gave me a tour. I had Dr. Tesic since it was a Thursday. She did everything but the polishing and X-​rays. She spent about 1 hr with me working on my teeth and seemed interested in educating me. I walked away with the impression that she was on the cutting edge with her knowledge, very smart and clearly keeps up to date on the science of it all. I have never had a dentist do anything but come in and check cavities for 30 seconds then leave the work for the hygienist the rest of the time let alone educate me. I just didn’t realize that a dentist could be as good as Dr. Tesic was. This place was fantastic.

Of all the times I’ve been to a dentist office Dr. Chang’s has been the least painful. On time appointments, quick to getting the task over and ensuring throughout the process that no pain or major discomfort is inflicted.
I highly recommend this dentist. Him and his team have great personality and an eagerness to do the job well.

I had a tooth built up and a crown put on last week in the office on fairground rd. The tooth is aching. I cannot eat on the left side of my mouth. It has caused flu like symptoms and I am certain there must be an infection in there! I plan to call first thing in the morning and demand my money back or I will take them to small claims court. I was told I needed a filling, in the middle of the drilling, he said I needed a crown! so we went from $ 300 to $ 1500…it seems as if this is a pattern with this office and it stops here. I am a35 year resident of this community and I know how to stop people like this. In three words my advice is, «Don’t go there!». continued… I did go into the office to try to get this resolved, and I was told it is probably a need for a root canal, and that was the risk you took getting a crown? wth! I Went in for a filling and in the middle of the procedure was told, oops! you need a crown! Ive had many crowns put in, and if a root canal was needed, that was done first! I also explained to the dentist that I don’t believe in root canals, so if that is needed, I wont do a crown, I will pull the tooth and do an implant. Bottom line is, decisions were made by the dentist, and I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THEM. You decide WHETHER YOU WANT TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHATEVER DECISIONS THE DENTIST MAKES…

Amazing office, staff and work! Love this office. Dr Chang and Dr Tesic are the most amazing dentist on the peninsula! They work on my daughter at 5 years old, her first time going to the dentist and needed filling on her front teeth, she didn’t even budged as Dr Chang was so gentle with her. To this day, she will not let me take her to the pediatric dentist! She will only go to see Dr Chang and his amazing staff. That goes to say something if a child who is nervous at the dentist, will only go to his office. I recommend this office to everyone, and anyone looking for a new office to take their family to. They have also seen my two year old for his first initial appointment, and he loved it! Dr Tesic was also so caring and gentle with him for his check up! He loves going in their as their staff is so personable and comfortable, my whole family loves it! Staff is also amazing! Very sweet, gentle and knowledgable. I would never go anywhere else. Hope this review helps! Thank you Dr Chang, Dr Tesic and staff for all you have done for my family!

When I first saw the staff at Dr. Chang’s I thought all would be well. They performed a complete checkup with X-​ray. Since I recently had an emergency root canal and needed the cap placed, this was fine.
Then they wanted to schedule a cleaning next. Never mind the hollow, broken remains of a tooth. I explained I wanted the cap first.
How dare I!
Three phone calls later, over a two month period, and they still insist on a cleaning. For no good reason. They refuse to even discuss repairing the food trap of the broken tooth.
I would only recommend this office to rich, submissive masochists with no sense of self worth.

I am a practicing dentist and I have personally taken dental courses taught by Dr. Chang. I have learned about his approach to dentistry and he is a class act. I have seen a lot of his cases presented during his lecture and he is all about providing the best care possible (he does superb work). Very few dentists are skilled in so many facets of dentistry like Dr. Chang. I have taken an orthodontics course as well an an implant course from him and he really knows his stuff. Because I have gotten to know him, I know that he also spends an enormous amount of his time outside of his practice in doing mission work in third world countries, this speaks volumes to me about his character and who he is. I would gladly have Dr. Chang work on me at anytime, or send my family to him! As a dentist, I know good work when I see it!

Upon my initial consultation with Dr. Chang and his staff, I fell head over heels. He is a very friendly, personable person and I thought he was great. We made a plan and Norma, the office manager gave me a quote. I specifically remember her saying it was for the entire plan. On the morning of my arrival to begin my work, as I was literally sitting in the chair, Norma came in and told me what she quoted me was only HALF of the work quoted. So, right before Dr. Chang began working I was told I would have to pay DOUBLE what I was quoted and the work could not begin until payment was made. I should of gotten up and walked out then. I wish I would of!
Also, Dr. Chang gave me some spill about how the metal fillings in my mouth were so poisonous and should be replaced with composite. So we changed almost all of my metal fillings, and ever since then I’ve had moderate to severe pain and sensitivity. I had NO PAIN prior to walking into his office. HE TOOK MY MONEY AND SCREWED MY MOUTH UP!
What’s even worse? Since then I’ve moved and have found a more qualified dentist who said I have some periodontal disease and that should have been treated prior to replacing metal fillings. AND that metal fillings shouldn’t be replaced unless they are warped or broken because taking them out releases more mercury than just leaving them in there.
I am disgusted at Dr. Chang’s obvious priority being HIS BOTTOM LINE, not his patient’s dental health. Do yourself a favor and don’t let him rip you off!

Dr. Chang is great! He’s very friendly and has a lot of experience and honest and caring. I love his staffs too. They are very professional and friendly. I would definitely recommend him to my family and friends.

After dropping 14k cash on my teeth with a previous dentist, we had it out and I was ready for a change. Dr. Chang is certainly a very qualified compassionate dentist who performs quality work. After a thorough exam, he marked off the remaining work needed to be done to make my teeth decay free. We went over everything, and he quoted me roughly $ 2k, and then invisalign braces at $ 4800. He told me there would be a 5% discount for cash paid in advance… when we know they only get 70−80% of what insurance covers. The office manager then came to discuss with me how we would go about getting the work done, and I asked for a written estimate to confirm Dr. Chang’s pricing… She came back five minutes later with a quote at $ 5,095. And this is before the $ 4800 for the braces! On top of that, she told me there was no discount for cash paid. Dumbfounded I said I’d consult someone else and paid my consultation fee. Intrigued, I asked to speak with Dr. Chang again and the office manager got him. His simple response to me was he was bad at math, and his office manager concurred his math was terrible. Now, I don’t care how bad at math you are, you don’t throw out a number like 2k, and come back with a estimate 2 ½ times what the actual dentist quotes. Especially when you tell the patient, «well the bulk of the work is done». 10k to go? That’s an easy way for the patient to lose complete faith. Looks like quality and competence don’t always go hand in hand. Guess I’m in the market for a new dentist… again.
